Fellow CPU vs CPU fans, if you want some realistic baseball

Use rovert22044's edited Simulation Baseball Full Minors rosters along with JoshC1977's Maximum Player Ratings slider set just as it is. Don't tinker with anything.

I purchased MLB 20 The Show a while back, but I'm holding off on playing it until all the patches drop. I used this exact slider set by JoshC along with rovert22044's 2019 roster. His 2020 roster along with JoshC's sliders will work the same.

I've spent time after time using different rosters, different sliders, and tinkering with sliders when all along these 2 just needed to be merged. These scores are from several games in spring training. The aces more times than not pitched 3 scoreless innings and performed just as you'd expect. On occasion, they were shelled. There are tight games with few runs, blowouts, and high scoring games from both teams. What I like best is there isn't an unrealistic amount of strikeouts or pitches per inning. Many times the aces had 3 or 4 strikeouts over 3 innings of work and average 12 or so pitches per inning. There are exceptions though. Tell me what you think. I will be posting more results as they come in.

    How are relief pitchers handled?

This is only in spring training so far, so for now they only pitch for 1 inning unless they get rocked.

This is by far the most realistic I’ve seen this game play. A lot of variety in way of hits. I’ve seen lots of runs being driven in with singles and doubles. My favorite though is the lack of unrealistic strikeout numbers and at bats that go on forever with what seems like endless fouls. These things are difficult to find all together in slider sets.

Yes, the key to realism on the field and simulation type gameplay is more player ratings related than sliders. This is true in every sports game out there including Madden, NHL, etc.

Get that right and you have yourself a very realistic simulation.

You may want to start a seperate test and start it at the regular season and get a couple weeks in. Being, I mostly play Manage Mode (also using JoshC sliders), I have noticed Spring and regular season play different. JoshC sliders are solid though. I am into June in my carryover franchise and having great results. Just a friendly fyi to make sure you get the results your looking for.

Madden get rid of the extras (SS/XF, HFA, media, scenarios, game plan) or turn them down considerably.

I do broadcast CPU vs CPU and let the CPU control and handle everything hands off. What differences do you tend to see between spring training and the regular season? More or less offense? Better or worse pitching?

Thanks to the pandemic where I was at home all summer long, I actually was able to complete an entire MLB season where I played about 150 of my team's 162 regular season games as MoM games and the rest of the 2268 games for all the other 29 teams were all fast play CPU vs CPU games. Oh and I used my own sliders that have evolved over the last few years from Nomo's sliders when he was actively developing sliders on this forum.

Baseball is a wacky sport where one game you can destroy your opponent and then on the next day they destroy you and/or it is a slug fest for both teams and/or it is a pitchers duel. As long as across the league the batting averages and ERAs are fairly close to what you would expect in the real world (and in my case the batting averages were slightly lower but well within the margin of error), then you know your games are reasonably realistic. Don't expect perfection because you are not going to get it. But SDS has made a pretty damn good game that emulates the real world pretty darn well.

I tried in years past but always burned out in the middle of the summer and only because I was at home all summer, this was the first time I was able to complete all 2430 games. Not sure I will be able to do it next year though, but of course like all other years (been buying MLB The Show every year since 2012), I will likely try. Oh and my team, the Washington Nationals (rebranded as the Montreal Expos) easily won their division ... but we got swept 3-0 in our division series by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who then got swept by the LA Dodgers in 4 games in the NLCS who went on to beat the Houston Astros in 6 games in the World Series. I am not a Dodgers fan but like in the real world, the virtual Dodgers fans finally got to celebrate a World Series championship.

Not so much any offense or defense, but pitching and use of pitchers are different during the regular season. In Spring, the cpu is programmed to use pitchers a certain way. I dont remember the sequence off hand (something to the effect of 3 innings SP, 1 inning another SP, 1 inning LR, 1 inning LR/MR, 1 inning MR, 1 inning MR/SU, 1 inning SU/CL). In the regular season, it depends on the situation and inning, but usually, you will see the same 3 or 4 relief pitchers all series.

Sorry for randomly bumping this, but I can't find this slider in the vault. Was it deleted? I searched for JoshC1977 (Online ID), and nothing came up.

I'm assuming this is the slider set that's being referred to.

Yes. That is the same one. If you want even more offense, particularly more doubles and triples, try reducing the fielder speed for the CPU to 3 or even 2. You'll still see good fielding by the CPU, but the ball will get by them a tad bit more. This setup works great for MLB 20 The Show as well as MLB 21 TS.
