Monitor talk for The Show
With a new game and new system,I am debating down the road about a gaming monitor. What are your thoughts in regards to this. Will Hdr be necessary? Has anyone played on an ultra wide? I have the current game and Ps4 pro and occasionally play on a 35" 1440p (2k if you will)Asus, and it looks ok,and the frame rate is a little better at a balanced setting, than my 4k mid range Samsung tv, where nothing other than fast setting is feasible for smooth play.

I don’t know if hdr makes a difference or not as I went to a gaming monitor years ago. I use Dynamic difficulty. All I know is my hitting level went from Rookie/borderline Veteran to All Star(occasionally above All Star) on the gaming monitor I got. Gaming monitor made a big difference for me! -

I believe Best Buy still has end of year deals. Input lag is nil. Supports VRR and G-sync.
The geeksquad warranty is expensive but worth it. It covers burn in, and 3 or 4 years down the road I'll find an issue and get a brand new equivalent.Comment

Re: Monitor talk for The Show
You definitely don't want ultrawide unless you're using it on a computer as well. The playstation cannot output an odd resolution, which means you're stuck with either black bars on the sides of your screen or a stretched image.
HDR on monitors is a little behind TVs (mostly because windows HDR is awful and there is not much point in developing HDR until it gets fixed), so if that's an important feature for you, I'd seriously consider getting a TV. TV's are getting much, much better with higher refresh rates and faster response times. My QLED is almost 2 years old now and it's a 4k HDR 120hrz 4ms display. Note: it cannot do 4k and 120hrz at the same time due to the fact that it's HDMI only, and the HDMI standard capable of transmitting that had yet to be released. Watch out, just because it says it can do both does not necessarily mean at the same time.
If you're still convinced you want a monitor, I can help you figure out what to look for and what to avoid. I could spoon feed you an answer to what monitor you should buy if you really want, but I think it's better for me to help you gain the knowledge to make your own decision. More likely to be satisfied with the choice that way.Last edited by TheWarmWind; 01-06-2021, 10:48 PM.Comment

Re: Monitor talk for The Show
I decided to buy a large TV for my living room instead of a new 4k monitor. I was using a 1080p monitor for probably 6 years or more, but unfortunately, as has been mentioned, 4k monitors with HDR are not super mainstream yet. I also didn't want a small 24 or 27 inch 4k monitor. The larger sized monitors didn't tick all the boxes of features/performance that I wanted, and ones that came close and quite expensive or still on the horizon for some unknown future date.
Also, my wife and I had another TV that died over the summer. So, we needed a second TV. I moved my living room TV (Samsung 52" 1080p LCD) to the bedroom, and found an amazing Black Friday deal on a brand new Sony x900h 85" 4k TV for the living room!
This 85" 4k TV is where my future PS5 will be connected running MLBTS for years to come. As mentioned, input/lag time on TVs have improved so dramatically that I do not believe I'll miss the monitor (especially when TVs are set to GAME mode).
I do not mean to hijack this thread, but if anyone has any experience with the Sony x900h 4k TV and MLBTS20 paired together, I'd personally love to hear about your experiences! It may also assist OP in making a decisionComment
