Once a player retires and isn’t part of the MLBPA anymore they have to be removed from the game for legal reasons. They would need permission to add Jeter to the game. They add new former players to the game every year and sometimes they lose some. It’s possible SDS has already wanted to and Jeter doesn’t want to be in the game or they couldn’t come to an agreement with him for whatever reason.

I'm always curious on the reasoning a player doesn't want to be in a game. Especially a guy like Jeter who doesn't need to negotiate dollars, he has enough.

Unless it's like a Barkley deal, where he wants them all to get paid more for using their likeness.

On a semi-related note - I would LOVE for SCEA to introduce historic teams on next gen. Something I’ve wanted for a very long time.

Because years ago, after Acclaim closed their doors and stopped producing the All-Star Baseball series which featured Derek Jeter on the cover, Kolbe Launchbaugh who was then, the Senior Lead Designer of the Show, went to Jeter's house to try to work out a deal to add Jeter to the game.

During their meeting, Kolbe spilled red wine on Jeter's new $2,000 white sofa and the relationship between Jeter and SDS has been strained ever since. Kolbe, Eddy Cramm, Ramone Russell, and others at SDS agreed to pitch in and purchase Jeter a brand new sofa, but the damage had already been done.

It's a shame, but until Jeter is willing to forgive and forget, I don't expect to see Jeter in MLB The Show.

I heard that Launchbaugh also told Jeter that his dog looked fat, which may have been the breaking point.

I also heard the Lauchbaugh was upset he didn’t get a Derek Jeter gift basket after their meeting

Rumor was that after Launchbaugh left to go to work on the Madden series, Jeter showed up for a meeting at SDS, but quickly left upset when Livingston saw him and told him that "the toilet with the plumbing issue was in the bathroom down the hall on the right."

thread is full of misinformation. there's no way Jeter would own a sofa as cheap as $2000.
he's not in the game because the sticking point is Sony wants him in as a Yankee, and Jeter says no, he's a straight up Marlin. he still harbours bad feelings about the 2003 World Series; so if you can't beat 'em, join 'em

Oh now it makes sense. I researched this more and heard that SDS finally broke off all contact with Jeter and gave up after they heard he was gonna have a big group of Yankees fans walk down to the studio to convince them that he actually beat Ramone in the rap battle.

ya know, Jeter was in Show 14 and you could carry him over 14 to 15 to 16 to 17 to 18 to 19 to 20 and even have all his real stats save his final year in pinstripes.

THEN find the best likeness of Jeter in the vault, copy down his appearance particulars, and adjust the carry-over Jeter to match. lot of work, but then Jeter would (sorta) really be in the Show again
