I wanted to start a thread on what has been my favorite aspect of sports games since childhood: player creation. With The Show now moving onto the PS5 and other new-gen platforms, I am hoping to see a complete redesign of the CAP (create-a-player) engine.
In my opinion, The Show lags behind many other games' CAP engines for one major reason: CAPs in The Show have a "molded from clay" sort of appearance, while other games appear to utilize some elements of face scanning from real faces, which can then be modified via sliders as with The Show's engine.
Below is an example of the CAP engine from the upcoming ESports Boxing Club game, which is being produced by a smaller studio. You can see that the various aspects of the face appear to be based on actual photo scans.
Compare this with The Show, which does not appear to utilize scanning in its CAP engine.
It's my hope that the development team at The Show will move toward using scan-based technologies for its CAPs at some point, with an ultimate goal toward making CAPs look virtually indistinguishable from licensed players. This would greatly augment the minor league experience, as well as make historic and fictional rosters even more engaging to use.
Please share any thoughts you have on what you want to see in terms of CAP improvements during the PS5 era of The Show. I doubt we will see anything this year since it hasn't been mentioned thus far, but hopefully by 22 or 23 we will see a new system. I think I've heard that new body models were in the minds of the development team, but that those would have to wait until next gen. Now that next gen is here, perhaps a new CAP engine could be built along with new body/uniform models whenever those eventually come into play.
