Re: Game way too dark in HDR game mode

I’ve really struggled with my tv settings. I don’t know how to take it from Game Mode so that I still have a chance of hitting a fastball to having really nice colors and brightness. I do also have HDR so what would be the best settings in game?
Can someone give me a dummy lesson
    I have a PS5 with LG webOS TV UN7000PUC
    thanks!

Congrats on that great tv [emoji4]

Yes this is in HDR game mode with Dynamic Tone Mapping on. I know that for the most accurate colour the pro’s say you have to put it on HGIG but it’s a little too dark for my liking then.

What do you mean about having a chance to hit a fastball? Are you having issues with input lag? What TV do you have?

Make sure HDR is turned off in the TV settings. Make sure you set everything to automatic in the PS5 screen settings, make sure you set up HDR in the menu in the PS5 settings, and make sure the toggle for HDR in game is on.

If you can, go into your TV settings from the game. See if it says HDR anywhere. It should be grayed out. Set your brightness as high as it goes, set contrast to anywhere between 90-100. Turn off all post processing options, set sharpness to 0.

Thanks I will look into this.

I meant when I don’t have game mode on the input lag is so bad I swing and miss every pitch above 90mph.

Yeah, you definitely ALWAYS have game mode on when playing any game on any system.

It’s the tv. I have that tv in my bedroom and HDR gaming looks dark. I have a C9 in the living room and it’s plenty bright in HDR games.

Is there even an HDR mode in 21? It's not in the audio/video options.

It’s automatically on if you have HDR on in the PS5 menu.

Thank you for that. Its a great reason why I'm not buying the PS4 version of any game that's also being made for the PS5. I'll just wait it out until I can eventually get my hands on one, even if that means its next year.

Gonna bump this up as I got a Lg C1 48 inch and The show has been a mess in HDR, looks way too dark, and when u manage to get it bright (via Dinamic Tone Mapping ON) the ABL (brightness limiter) of the tv acts very very agressivly and dims the picture... frustrating as hell, specially since HDR works fine on NBA 2k for exemple...

On SDR the game looks ok, playable but still a bit frustrating since imo looks worst (dimmer) than on a regular basic LCD tv, while it should look a lot better this been a high end OLED.

I have the C9 and I have tone mapping off. I used HGIG and it looks fine to me in game mode as far as colors and brightness. Do you have backlight and contrast at 100?

Yeh man, both at 100, I think im just too used to play on LCD monitors (around 300/350 nits where the APL "average picture level" is that bright) seems those OLEDs wont go above 200 nits APL, only highlights and small things on the screen will go past that... gonna see if I can adjust to that or go back playing im my LG LCD Monitor, bummer.

If HDR on these oleds is too dark for you I don’t know what to say. You’re probably used to watching tv on torch mode(vivid) which is bad for you tv in the long run. HDR on these oleds is more than enough brightness for me.

Re: Game way too dark in HDR game mode

Jumped back into this game after not playing it for what feels like months. I have both a PS5 and Series X, and I own this game on both consoles.

I have to say, after playing so many games and coming back to this, it’s pretty disappointing how blah this game looks on next gen consoles. And the weird thing is that some parks look awesome, and some parks look like crap. And I feel like it has to do with the lighting. The lighting in this game is just very bad in my opinion. If you’re playing a game on a sunny, cloudless day in the Summer, how do the shadows overpower everything else so much? Again I choose a day game, in July, no clouds in the sky, and yet it a player turns around and their shadow is let’s say the same side as their back, their entire back looks so dark to the point you can barely see their name and number on their jersey.

I’m playing on an LG CX which is an amazing TV. Gaming on this thing with next gen consoles has been insane, in a good way. But yea, the Show just looks pretty crappy in certain parks, especially those with roofs that you can play in while closed. I’m definitely not super tech savvy, but the shadows in this game just seem to be way too powerful, where darker areas of the parks are waaaaaay too dark.

Even beyond the lighting, colors just seem really washed out at times too.

I’ve bought every single version of The Show dating back to 06 on PS2. Like I said I even bought it twice this year. Next year will be the first I skip. I’ll play the game if it’s on Game Pass, but I’m definitely not going to buy it. I hope they can get this thing looking much better. It still plays a great game of baseball, but here I am with powerful consoles and one of, if not the best gaming TV you can buy, and this game looks so underwhelming.
