This new rule runs contrary to the most fundamental aspect of the game itself.

Nobody should ever stand on second base unless he's earned the right to be there, or if the defense decides to allow it.

Whoever came up with this idea is a traitor to the game.

I'll have it off. I'm glad they gave an option.

Don't agree with the rule, but it adds another level of strategy so I'll have it on.

I’m In the minority of kind of liking the rule.
It creates drama right at the start of extra innings. Sure it’s a little wonky and goes against of traditional aspects but baseball is allowed to evolve too.

I don’t want to see it in the playoffs though

As a bit of a traditionalist, I'm not a huge fan of the rule.

That said, with the money involved in this day and age, I would expect it's here to stay -- just too much injury/fatigue risk involved in having teams play those 19-inning marathons. I loved those, but I don't think they're coming back.

I hate the rule, but I'll probably use it (begrudgingly) for any real-life franchise seasons I run. For fictional/fantasy drafts-etc.....it's most likely going off.

I'm torn. I hate the rule. I also hate 17-inning games. I'd tolerate the rule better if they started it in the 13th instead of the 10th.

                I'll probably leave it off.

I'm a little warmer to the idea of them playing a few extra innings the "old" way, as you described, and then doing the runner on second.

Agreed. Give me 12 normal innings as well, then in the 13th you can add the runner to 2nd. 12 is a nice even number and gives you another time through the lineup with standard rules to end it. At that point player fatigue does become more of a worry and it makes more sense to have the runner on 2nd.

Instantly doing it in the 10th is what gets me. I'd be fine with the rule if it was delayed like this.

If MLB is so worried about all that and tiring bullpens, etc then they should just have ties then.

In the words of a hockey announcer a few years back... “I hate the fact there’s two different rules for regular season and playoffs”. They should both be the same.

Agreed, should be earned. The rule has a “what would happen if” feel to it. It’s like making a rule in boxing where each boxer has to let their opponent get one shot each without ducking/blocking if the fight is going too long. No judgment on people who like the rule but is not for me.

I absolutely plan on using it ... as soon as
                              A) when pigs fly
                              B) hell freezes over
                              C) the Mariners when a league pennant

I'm eternally thankful this rule is optional.
I also wish that [expletive deleted] 3 batter rule was optional.
I'd opt out quicker than Manferd finds new ways to bastardize base ball

                                My house, my rules.
I won’t be using the new rule, I use Bacon’s roster with 30 NCAA rebranded teams. Nothing about my universe is realistic anyway.
