What I'd give to be able to find games early like the old days.

It's unfair man, I used to be able to walk in the mom and pop shops find a video game a couple days early before launch and purchase if my parents were feeling giving. Now I am 33 yrs old and old enough to pay for it myself and its unbelievably rare to ever find a game prelaunch date in stores.
I'll never forget the time I found Madden 2 days early at Blockbuster to rent. 13 yr old me thought he won the lotto.
I can't wait to play MLB on my PS5. Bought the PS5, $100 over store price just to have it for launch day. I'm so used to having The Show right at opening day that the itch for baseball gaming is insane right now, as I continue to watch my A's try to claw back to .500.

the funny thing is there are plenty mom-and-pop stores around me, just not any that sell video games. I've grown accustomed to anxiously anticipating games, I've gotten where I like the delayed gratification over instant gratification. now I wouldn't throw an extra early release purchase out of bed, but I don't miss it so much that it bothers me. maybe I've just gotten old and need some sort of video games type viagra lmao

I remember when Amazon first started selling video games. They would misprice them and you'd get them in the mail early.

I got Kingdom Hearts 2 for $23 a week before it was supposed to release.

        Yeah those days are gone.

It's one of those things that's torture, but if you hold out, you'll be thankful, and you'll hardly remember the wait.

Honestly the whole deluxe edition gets it early is a pretty awful anti-consumer move. There is an actual not malicious argument to doing it (it allows the devs to spread out launch day server load), however I feel that's pretty lame, especially when the game doesn't have to form an online state, but SDS had it that way by default, even for people only interested in single player.

Honestly, any business that uses fear of missing out to drive up sales is participating in some anti-consumer BS. To be clear, fear of missing out can still happen whether a company tried to force it or not, and they can't really be blamed for natural FOMO, but MLB the Show 21 is a virtual product of virtually limitless supply. A staggered release on such a product screams anti-consumerism.

I too miss the days of getting the game early when it would "fall off a truck" or some such ish I would see on here. The stories about the hunt were sometimes the best part.

I worked at Wal Mart in high school. I was able to get my hands on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Madden, NBA Live, and even MLB The Show early(sometimes up to a full week). Those were the days.

There was one time I even got this game SNIPER. I hated it and went to sell it to Gamestop. To my surprise, the game wasn't even out yet and the Gamestop guy was like "where did you get this from? This game isn't out for another week"

                  "uhhh.....fell off a truck"

                  Ahh the good ole days....

Honestly, I don’t think enough people care this year. I think the late after opening day release has a lot to do with it. There’s a store 15 minutes away who got it in this morning. Years past I would have skipped work and paid extra to get it early. This year I could care less. They are out there though. I just think less people are out on the hunt this year
