While in your Franchise, go to the MLB logo in the top right of the screen. From there select Stadium Assignments.

Cardinals take 2 out of 3 from Phillies

The Cardinals (8-7) took the 3 game series from the Phillies over the weekend in Philadelphia.

The Cardinals won the first two games of the series, but were unable to complete the sweep on Sunday.

The Cardinals will now travel to Washington for a 3 game series with the Nationals.

Carlos Martinez improves to 3-0 on the season

With his victory Friday night in Philly, Carlos Martinez has improved his record to 3-0 on the year with a 1.71 ERA. Martinez is having a great bounce back season after struggling last year and not being a starter in 2019.

Paul DeJong continues his hot streak

Paul DeJong continued his hot streak over the weekend collecting 6 hits in the 3 game series in Philadelphia. DeJong is currently hitting .301 with 3 homeruns and 10 RBI's.

I have a question for you guys that play multiple seasons playing every at bat/ pitch.

If you have a D potential player that you are able to have great success with do you see their potential and ratings escalate appropriately?

I’m going to go with a Pirates franchise and I’m wondering if I can actually have sustained success with lower rated players.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe potential rating attributes will increase from good performance in this game.

Thoughts on the Yankees making a run at Scherzer if the Nationals are out of it by the deadline? I'm trying to base his value off of what Verlander and Greinke got in those deals. 3 Top 100 prospects? 2 Top 50? IMO I think anyone not named Dominguez is available but curious to see what people think

                PEORIA, AZ -- Mar, 3, 2021

Kyle Hendricks tossed three scoreless innings, earning the win, as the Chicago Cubs came out on top in their first outing of the Spring, defeating the San Diego Padres by a final of 4-0. Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner singled off of Padres hurler Blake Snell in the top of the fourth driving in a pair of runs. Former Cub Yu Darvish started for the Padres, striking out four batters through three scoreless innings while earning a no-decision. Anthony Rizzo provided some insurance in the top of the ninth with a two-run homer.

Cubs skipper David Ross was pleased with his team's first performance of the year and is optimistic entering the 2021 regular season, despite many questions surrounding the future direction of the team.

"We've got a lot of talented guys on this team that know how to win," said Ross. "I expect to go out and compete every day, and I have no doubt that the guys in the clubhouse have the same mentality."

Despite making the playoffs last season, a number of offseason moves have many wondering if the Cubs are headed for a rebuild. Cubs president Jed Hoyer's trading of Yu Darvish along with not re-signing southpaw Jon Lester and slugger Kyle Schwarber leaves some gaps in the roster. And while those gaps have been filled with the signing of Joc Pederson and fan-favorite and 2015 NL Cy Young winner, Jake Arrieta, there are still many questions regarding the moves made. Add to that the fact that 2016 NL MVP Kris Bryant is slated to become a free agent at the season's end and it makes many wonder if the Cubs might be a very different looking team at the end of the season.

"We just can't worry about all that stuff," said Cubs All-Star first baseman Anthony Rizzo. "What we're concerned about is going out and trying to win each day."

Think both of those guys had multiple years left on their deals, plus the teams acquiring prospects gave up cash to boost their return (Which you can't do in this game, unfortunately).

Check out baseballtradevalues.com if you're into realistic-ish player values/trades. It's a pretty cool site. We used to have a trade forum on here, but I think most people ended up there instead.

                        Cardinals drop series to Nationals

The Cardinals (9-10) dropped their 3 game series with the Nationals in Washington as they continue to hover around the .500 mark.

Game 1 saw Jack Flaherty take the mound in his first start since coming off the IL, and he was roughed up to the tune of 5 runs over 4 innings on 9 hits. Daniel Ponce de Leon would serve as relief but wasn't much better as the Cards would drop the series opener 11-4.

Game 2 saw Adam Wainwright take the mound and once again not perform. Wainwright only lasted 5 innings (he was pushed to 5 innings) and the Cards trailed 7-1 after the 5th. But the offense exploded in their final 9 outs capped off by a Lane Thomas go ahead/game winning homerun in the 9th. Alex Reyes would strike out the side in the bottom of the 9th to preserve the win.

Game 3 saw Carlos Martinez take the mound as he's been the most consistent pitcher for the Cardinals. Martinez was 3-0 on the year, but would suffer his first loss as the bats were quiet and shut out by Corbin. Martinez would pitch 8 innings striking out 11 only allowing 1 earned run (1 scored via Carpenter error) and would lose 2-0.

The Cardinals will be off Thursday as they head back home for a 7 game homestand, starting with 3 against the Reds over the weekend. They will then play a 4 game series with the Phillies.

I can only speak for manage mode. Most of the time a D rated player declines. I have seen some improvement with a few but not as much as with higher potential players. I wouldn't plan for him to be a regular long term MLB player. At best a contributor off the bench for a few years.

Cards take series with Reds to get back to .500

The Cardinals (11-11) took 2 out of 3 from the Reds in St.Louis over the weekend to get back to .500 on the year. The Cards are only 2 games behind the Brewers for first place in the Central as everyone continues to play near .500 baseball.

In Friday night's opener, Kwang Hyun Kim was dominant pitching 8 innings, striking out 14 in route to his 2nd win of the season. Kim allowed 2 runs (Castellanos 2 run bomb in 3rd), but that would be it. Kim had easily his best outing as a Cardinal on Friday night. The offense was sparked by Nolan Arenado breaking his slump going 3 for 3 with a homerun, double and 5 RBI's. The Cards won 7-2.

Saturday saw Miles Mikolas take the ball and once again, Mikolas was inconsistent. Mikolas took the loss after walking 7 Reds hitters and striking out only 1. He would surrender 6 runs on 8 hits over just 5 innings of work. The Cards didn't have much offensively against Wade Miley as they were held to a single run (RBI single by Edman) and ended up losing 8-1.

The series finale on Sunday saw Flaherty get his 2nd start after the IL stint, and boy was he ready. Flaherty pitched 7 1/3 innings stirking out 9 and didn't allow a single run and only 2 hits. He was pulled after hitting 110 pitches and walking Castellanos and getting to a left handed heavy part of the lineup. Andrew Miller would strike out Naquin and Votto to end any threat. Alex Reyes would pitch a perfect 9th in route to his 6th save. Matt Carpenter was the offensive star hitting a homerun in the 6th that put the Cards up 2-1, which would be the final score. The other run was driven in by Flaherty on a 2 out triple to score Carlson.

The Cardinals will remain home and host the Phillies for 4 games before travelling to Pittsburgh for a weekend series with the Pirates to close out the month of April.

The North Siders break camp and had some tough moves to make regarding getting down to the 26 man limit. The Cubs will roll with 13 pitchers and the most hotly contested battle was between Justin Steele and Shelby Miller. At the start of camp both were not viewed as serious threats to make the opening day roster but both excelled in the spring as Stelle had only given up 1 run in 13 innings of work before his final start. In the end the Cubs went with the veteran as Steele will start his year in Iowa. In a surprising move the Cubs chose to have Nico Hoerner start the year in Triple A even though he had an impressive Spring. Hoerner led the team in at bat and had the 3rd highest average but the Cubs decided to go with David Bote as the everyday 2nd baseman to start the year. The move will give Nico a chance to play every day and show he can consistently produce.

“As much as we love Nico and I think Nico is going to be a stud here for a long time — Gold Glove second baseman, future All-Star in my opinion, and what he’s done in the offseason, the work he’s done, there’s a lot of confidence in the organization about him — that’s not setting him up for success,” Ross said. “This is a real competition. In my opinion, David won it.”

In the other surprise move Danny Santana was able to make the club. Santana was brought in mid way through spring training and the utility player showed solid pop from the left side of the plate.

The Cubs will have a lot of question marks in terms of who will be back with the team next year but one of them will not be Anthony Rizzo. The Cubs were able to pursue a deal and signed the gold glove 1st baseman to a 5 year deal with a player option that will pay him over 20m AAV. The club announced they are negotiating with Bryant and Baez but it is likely the team will not be able to afford both of them.

                              Lineup:
                              CF Happ
                              C Contreras
                              3B Bryant
                              1B Rizzo

                              Marisnick
                              Duffy

                              Rotation:
                              Hendricks

                              Opening Day - Vs Pirates

The Cubs opened the 2020 campaign at Wrigley for a cold one against the Pirates. The Cubs will see a lot of the Pirates in the first month of the season and they hope to get out to a fast start in what could be a highly contested Central Division. Kyle Hendricks would get his 2nd consecutive opening day start as Tyler Anderson would pitch for the Pirates. The Cubs were able to get on the board in the 1st after Contreras reached on an error and Bryant made them pay with a 2 run home run to left field. The Cubs would keep things rolling as they added more in the 2nd after David Bote would drive in a run and then a Willson Contreras 3 run shot would make it 6-0. The Pirates did not get the start they wanted to start the year as Anderson was only able to get 5 outs before the early call to the showers. The Cubs and Hendricks would cruise up until the 7th inning but then things would unravel. Hendricks was walked a man then had runners at 1st and 2nd due to an error by Kris Byant. Jacob Stallings would drive in 2 on a double. The Pirates were able to get another base hit before a 3 run Bomb would cut the Cubs lead to 1. After getting another out David Ross would end Hendricks day as Chafin would come on to try and keep the lead. It was not meant to be as he would give up a single that tied it at 6 but was able to record the final 2 outs. The score would hold until the 10th as the Cubs would bring on Kimbrel. In previous years his outing would have been enough to move the game to the 11th but due to the man on 2nd rule the Pirates were able to take the lead as they were able to move the runner over on a sac fly and a single by Moran gave them the lead. Contreras started the bottom of the 10th and the Cubs looked to be in business with a Bryant single to put men at the corners. Unfortunately the Cubs would not hit any balls deep enough to score the runner and would go on to lose 6-7. After a day off on Friday the Cubs and Pirates will resume the series as Jake Arrieta will face Chad Kuhl.
