      Cardinals split series with Phillies

The Cardinals and Phillies split their 4 game series to begin the final week of April. The Cardinals (13-12) are now in 2nd place in the Central and trail the Brewers by 3 games.

The Cards lost the first two of the series, but bounced back to take Wednesday nights game and Thursday's afternoon finale, with Thursday being done in dramatic fashion and saw a resurgence from a long time fan favorite, and a recent addition make his mark.

The Cards trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 9th Tommy Edman led off the inning with a single to left off of Archie Bradley. Next up was Matt Carpenter who was 2 for 2 on the day with 2 walks and 3 RBI's. Carpenter would stay perfect with a double into the left field gap, bringing home Edman from first and tying the game at 4. Edmundo Sosa would replace Carpenter at 2nd as the winning run. John Nogowski would pop out for the first out of the inning, but next up was Paul Goldschmidt who would lace the first pitch he saw from Bradley down the left field line for the walkoff win!

The Cardinals will now travel to the Pittsburgh for a 3 game weekend series against the struggling Pirates.

Cardinals finish the month of April with a record of 13-13

The Cardinals closed out the month of April with a loss to the Pirates on Friday night to see their record fall to 13-13 on the year. The Cardinals are currently 4 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central.

As their record would indicate, it was an up and down month for the Cardinals who never went on a hot streak or hit a cold spell for any lengthy period of time.

Injuries played a part as the Cardinals saw Jack Flaherty (15 Day IL) and Harrison Bader (60 Day IL) land on the injured list on Opening Day and a couple of weeks later, saw Yadier Molina (10 Day IL) land their as well. Flaherty as since returned, but Bader (fractured wrist) and Molina (broken hand) aren't expected back anytime soon. There is an off chance Molina returns prior to the end of May. Bader is expected back in June.

Inconsistent starting pitching and offense was another contributing factor to the up and down month. Adam Wainwright hasn't been typical Wainwright (1-2 6+ ERA) in the rotation and none of the 5 starters have been completely exempt from struggles this season. The bullpen has probably been the strongest part of the team thus far.

As for hitting, aside from Edman, Arenado, and Goldschmidt, no other hitting is consistently producing. Paul DeJong has hit a terrible slump, Tyler O'Neill and Dylan Carlson have been underperforming, and the catcher spot has been a revolving door. Matt Carpenter closed out the month on a hot streak going 8 for his last 15 with 2 homeruns, 2 doubles and 7 RBI's.

With the AA season starting this month, I would expect to see some roster movement to try and add depth and production to the major league roster while allowing prospects who could be expected to contribute over the course of the season being moved around now that they can get consistent at-bats, innings pitched.

Thankfully, no one in the Central is playing lights out and the Cardinals aren't in a deep hole, but they will need to find a streak soon of 8 wins out of 10 or 7 wins out of 10 to get things going in the right direction.

Cardinals sign C.J. Chatham to minor league deal

The Cardinals have signed 25 year old IF C.J. Chatham to a one year minor league deal. Chatham will be assigned to Triple-A Memphis to coincide with additional roster moves the Cardinals are making.

Cardinals claim Ibandel Isabel off waivers from Angels

The Cardinals are in the midst of roster moves to begin the month of May and with that have claimed 25 year old 1B/OF Ibandel Isabel off of waivers from the Angels. The Cardinals have assigned Isabel to Single A Palm Beach. Isabel will provide depth at the first base position, something the Cards organization was seeking.

Cardinals recall Greg Garcia from Memphis and option Lane Thomas to Springfield

The Cardinals have recalled veteran IF Greg Garcia from Memphis and have optioned OF Lane Thomas down to Double-A Springfield.

The Cardinals signed Garcia earlier this year to provide veteran depth with the idea that after he spent a few weeks in Memphis, he would join the big league squad.

To make room, the Cards optioned OF Lane Thomas to Springfield. Thomas was sent down there due to Connor Capel returning from the IL at Memphis and the organization is wanting Thomas to get regular at-bats so starting in CF at Springfield was the best option to do this. The Double-A season will begin on May 4th.

Started a franchise with the Phillies because I wanted a fringe playoff team in the National League. To speed up the season and still play a fair amount I use this strategy I found on these forums years ago but just wanted to share with you guys to see how you play your franchise seasons whether it be every game, once a series or how. But here is what I do.

Game 1: Play all 9 innings
Game 2: Play 1,2,3 innings (Quick Mange the other innings)
Game 3: Play 4,5,6 innings (Quick Manage the other innings)
Game 4: Play 7,8,9 innings (Quick Manage the other innings)
Game 5: Quick Mange all 9 innings
Game 6: Player Lock a guy who is hot/cold or just someone I enjoy hitting with.

Then Restart. This gives me a chance to pitch with every starting pitcher and moves the season along quick enough while I still get to play a lot and experience all kinds of the game.

I play every other game. Because I do want to get thru more seasons but I also want my input to matter in stats but by playing every other one it also kind of keeps the stats realistic

Back when I was playing MLB 2k11, I started playing every 5 games so each game would be the next guy in the rotation. You end up playing 32 games a year (and you can always jump in and play more at the end of the year if you want). Once I got to the playoffs I would play every other game of a series. I found I could get a few years deep into Franchise before the next game came out.

It also minimized putting my thumb on the scale too much as I generally was winning every game. I'm not doing that right now thanks to dynamic difficulty so it may not matter as much when I start my franchise in this game.

Just noticed that players don't even have correct service time SMH Like Acuna has less than a year service time in game when he should have over 2 years and Jon Gray has just over a year when he should have like 4 or 5 years now and more players like that. They still have all the same mistakes from the SDS rosters last year. They must literally just import the roster from one year to the next. It's so frustrating because I drafted a really good team that I liked but stuff like this makes me just want to wait until Ridin releases his and then I'll just re go over everything I guess.

So for now gonna put franchise on pause, I'll just make sure when Ridin releases his and after I've done my edits to it, I'll just get my same "core" group of players and then get everyone else from scratch so my team may look drastically different next time I post

I would just run with your franchise if you are happy with your team. I don't know if Ridin's roster would fix the service time or not. I could be wrong.

No I'm pretty sure he won't fix it, but I'm going to go thru and fix all those types of things. Plus with all the missing players/prospects I'm just going to restart this once. Because I can live without some players but service time being wrong throws a lot of things off

I don't have time to play every game so I play the first game in every division matchup. I'll sim every other game and quick manage if a series is tied. Also have Critical Situations on and I'll play all of those.

The Reds began their 10 game road trip to start the month of May. Up first was a three game weekend series vs the Nationals.

                          Game 1: 3-5 L (S. Gray 1-3; W. Suero 1-0; B. Hand S, 7)
                          Game 2: 4-2 W (E. Garcia 3-0; D. Hudson 4-2; A. Garrett S, 10)
                          Game 3: 8-5 W (T. Mahle 4-3; P. Corbin 4-1; A. Garrett S, 11)

After being swept by Arizona and losing two of three at home to the Braves, our only two series losses of the season. We get back and win another series good Nationals team.

Up next is a three game set in NY vs the Mets. The Mets lead the East by 1.5gms with a 21-13 record.

                          Game 1: M. Lorenzen 4-1 1.91era vs D. Peterson 2-2 6.00era

                          Game 2: W. Miley 2-1 4.46era vs J. deGrom 6-0. 1.53era

                            Cardinals woes continue in Pittsburgh

The Cardinals (14-14) continue their lackluster season as they drop series to the Pirates in Pittsburgh. They can't hit, get consistent pitching, and just continue to play uninspired baseball even against a team like the Pirates who are just flat out struggling this year.

The first two games of the series the Cardinals lost 2-0 and 1-0 respectively, completely destroying solid pitching performances from Flaherty (7 IP, 4 hits, 2 ER, 11 K's, 2 BB) and Wainwright (7.2 IP, 8 hits, 1 ER, 6 K's, 1 BB). Thankfully the Cardinals didn't waste Martinez's performance (7.1 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER, 8 K's, 4 BB) as they were able to pull off a 5-1 win over the Pirates and avoid the sweep.

Really frustrating to figure out the kick in the pants the team needs to go on a winning streak. Inconsistent play from basically the entire roster makes it impossible to add a new piece to fix.

The Cardinals will head home for a 4 game series with the Mets. Against the Mets staff, I don't know that I like the chances of the Cards offense snapping out of its slump.

I've been keeping up with this thread as it's been one of my favourites to read the past few days (good job everyone!) and decided to make an account and start up my own franchise and post my own updates. With that said, I picked the Blue Jays and just finished playing a few spring training games before advancing to the regular season.

Cannot wait to contribute to this thread with box scores and write ups! Looking forward to reading other high-effort replies in this thread; you guys rock!
