Royals drop series at home vs White Sox

    Game one:
    WP: L. Lynn (5-0)
    LP: M. Minor (3-1)

White Sox pushed across a total of 7 runs in the 4th and 5th innings. Mike Minor gave up 6 runs on 6 hits in just 4.1 innings, including a pair of HRs to Adam Eaton and Luis Robert. The Royals could only muster 4 runs on 4 hits as Lance Lynn improved to 5-0 on the year with a 2.03 ERA

    Game two:
    WP: B. Singer (1-2)
    LP: C. Rodon (4-3)

The Royals got an amazing start out of Brady Singer, going 8 scoreless allowing only 1 run. His great start was backed up by a four run 4th inning from the offense. Nicky Lopez hit a sac fly, Merrifield a two run double, and an RBI single from Michael Taylor. Taylor would add a two run HR in the 7th and the Royals cruised to an easy 6-1 win.

    Game three:
    WP: D. Keuchel (3-3
    LP: K. Bubic (1-4)
    S: L. Hendriks

Salvy Perez hit a solo HR off Keuchel in the first but it was immediately answered by a Jose Abreu solo HR in the second. Both starting pitchers would then put up nothing but zeroes until the seventh inning. Yermin Mercedes would hit a one out change up out for a solo HR, and that 2-1 lead would hold up, giving the White Sox the series win in KC.

Kris Bubic was very good, but as in many of his starts he seems to get no run support. Keuchel was dominant with 9 strikeouts while only walking one batter. His combination of singer, change up, and cutter had the Royals off balance all day.

The Royals will now go to Detroit for a three game series before heading to Chicago for another series with the White Sox. The Royals are 21-13, 1 GB of the White Sox.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

July has come to a close as the Devils sit 7 games back from the Astros in the division and 5.5 back in the Wild Card. July was definitely an improvement as the team finished with a 49-51 record to end the month.

The Devils made a flurry of moves in the month of July to improve the team, but also not mortgaging the future. The Devils acquired Archie Bradley from the Phillies for Reynaldo Lopez. The team then went out and traded Cole Hamels and Hector Rondon to the Brewers for SP Eric Lauer who was pitching for their Triple A affiliate currently, we slotted him into the number 3 spot in the rotation. The team then acquired C.J. Cron from the Diamondbacks for Jedd Gyorko and Hyun Soo Kim, giving the team a more reliable option hitting against righties. They also acquired Dansby Swanson who was hitting off the bench for the Braves because they have Trevor Story for Ty Buttrey, Dillon Paulson, and B prospect Brayan Buelvas.

At the beginning of July the Devils lost Kyle Funkhouser to a Shoulder Tear for the rest of the season. We optioned Gerson Bautista to Triple A and called up Alex Reyes. We also optioned Tim Wendell to Triple A along with Luc Rennie.

The Team extended Kyle Schwarber for 2 yrs and 15M and gave Brent Honeywell a 4 yr 10M contract.

Our All Stars were Ryon Healy and Pedro Strop

In the 2021 Draft the Devils selected SS Tommy Choi 89 potential. With the next three picks the Devils selected two SP Jay Gonzalez and Geoffrey Linder and a Closer Ramon Morales all B potential.

The Devils made a trade acquiring 2B Eli Ybarra from the Pirates for Yu Chang. Ybarra was one of the standouts in the draft class from last year with A potential and figured he would fit right in with the team after the injury to Darnell.

The Devils offense has ben sputtering of late with our leadoff man going on the shelf. Kyle Schwarber has been heating up of late along with Ryon Healy.
The Pitching has still been disappointing with Andrew Heaney being the worst having a 4.75 ERA. Brent Honeywell has been our best posting a 3.69 ERA.

The Devils put Cole Hamels on waivers and called up Kyle Funkhouser to replace him in the Rotation. Jake Cave came back from injury. With Sweeney going on the DL we called up Adam Haseley from Triple A and Tim Wendell.

Texas Rangers (MOM). Season 2 end of season report.

Well season 2 has come to an end and what seemed to be a sure playoff run saw the Rangers completely fall apart in September. We had a 11 and 9 game losing streak in the month. The collapse led to the firing of coach Chris Woodward as Texas finished 4th in the division at 78 and 84. Joey Gallo was on a MVP pace through July but tailed off in final 2 months. He still finished with 42 hrs. The New York Mets for the 2nd consecutive year won the World Series as they defeated the Yankees in the World Series. Here is the Ranger run down.

C: Florentino had a descenr season but missed 60 days with injury. He is backed up by Andrew Knapp again this year with Yadier Molina signed to compete for a job in spring

1b: Anthony Rizzo was ok. Not really worth the money I spent on him in FA. Nate Lowe returns also

2b: Nick Solak returns after a lack luster year

SS: Gone is IKF. Another bad injury plagued year as we turn SS over to Anderson Tejeda

3b: Jung makes 40 man roster and will try and win job at 3b

Lf: Brantley would not sign new contract so Brandon Belt was signed to play LF. Watch top prospect Bubba Thompson in camp

          CF: Up for grabs

          Rf: Joey Gallo

Pitching is up for grabs. I traded for Duffy last year. He won 17 games but tore Rotator Cuff. No one would sign in free agency so it looks like Arihara and Benjamin are locks with 3 spots up for grabs in Spring

They may have been added earlier, but I noticed with the latest roster update that Jared Shuster, Bryce Ball and Michael Harris are on the Braves now. I wish there was a way to import players into an existing franchise. Or if that's not possible, that editing player appearances wasn't as painful as it is.

Editing wasn't fun and took some time, but I've got Shuster, Ball and Harris in my franchise now (even if some of the appearances are slightly off from official roster).

I REALLY don't envy the roster makers.

              Cardinals take series from Reds

The Cardinals (16-5) have won yet another series on the season as they took 2 of 3 from the Reds over the weekend.

The Cardinals lost the series opener on Friday night, but bounced back to win the final two over the weekend.

The Cardinals will now travel to Washington for a 4 game series with the Nationals

                All Star Break - 2023

Things are looking good as we prepare to start the 2nd half of the season. The Royals sit in 1st place at 53-38. The division is close though with a 3 game lead over the Twins while the White Sox and Indians are both within 5.5 games. We have won or split all but 2 series since June. We were swept in 2 games by the Redsox as well as a 2 game sweep by the Reds. We had 4 sweeps of our own taking down the Twins, Tigers, Whitesox, and Yankees all in 3 games. The Astors and Dodgers are still on pace to win 100+ games at 59-23 and 55-34. Though they are now joined by the NL leading Mets who it at 56-34. Meanwhile, the Orioles are no longer one of the 2 worst teams in the majors. The Pirates still have the worst record at 31-60. But the Tigers are now the worst team in the AL at 35-57.

                Spoiler

While the offense has continued to do enough to win it needs to get a lot better if we want to make any noise should we end up in the playoffs. We are performing about the same as we have all season. Still 21st in AVG at .252 while we have moved up 2 spots in OBP now 27th at .315. And we are 1 spot back in SLG% sitting in 16th at .427. We have the 18th most runs with 397, 13th in Doubles with 152, 1st in Triples with 26, and 12th in Home Runs with 120. Our 65 Stolen Bases is 6th in the league but lead the league in SB% at 79.3% thanks to our league-low 17 Caught Stealing. We have started to Strikeout a bit more now in 12th with 671. And our Base on Balls is slightly better with 285 putting us 26th overall.

                Batting Stats
                Spoiler

Team MVP in the first half goes to Whit Merrifield as he continues his bounce-back season after signing his 2-year deal. On pace to hit the most home runs of his career while also walking slightly higher than his career high. The breakout player would have to go to Edward Olivares. Through his first 213 games, he hit .243/.303/.381. Now through 68 games this season he is hitting .294/.359/.463. And the Least Valuable Player has to go to Salvador Perez. While he doesn't have the lowest WAR on the team he has been terrible and has spent most of the last month backing up Kyle Higashioka. .180/.240/.284 with 6 HR in 222 AB. The defense has been great with no errors in 521 innings but his bat is unplayable. And the worst part is we still owe him 45 million dollars through 2025.

The mediocre offense has continued to be carried along by the pitching staff. Our ERA is down to 3.58 good for 3rd in the league. We are 2nd in Home Runs allowed with 100, 9th in Walks Allowed with 304, and 11th in Strikeouts with 731. Blown Saves continue to be an issue though with 16 now on the season putting us in a tie for 24th. And defensively we have been slightly above average with a .989 Fielding % good for 13th overall.

                Pitching Stats
                Spoiler

Brady Singer has continued to be the best starter in the rotation putting up a 2.28 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 106.2 IP. Brad Keller has been better dropping his ERA from 5.24 to 4.58 over his last 40 innings. While Duffys late-career resurgence keeps on ticking with a 3.38 ERA over his 101.1 innings. The 6 spot in the rotation is still an issue. Asa Lacy is being sent back down to AAA to start the 2nd half. He had a 5.90 ERA in 39.2 innings. Chance Adams is being called up to take his spot. In 117 innings down in AAA he has a 2.99 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. The bullpen despite the blow saves at times is outstanding right now. No one currently in the pen has an ERA over 3.90. Holden Capps and Colin Poche both have an ERA barely over 1 at 1.10 and 1.15.

                MLB All Star Game
                Spoiler

We have 71 games left in the season. 35 of those games will be at home, 32 against teams at or under .500, and 29 games left in the division. We open up the 2nd half with back to back home series against the Mariners and Tigers before heading out on the road to face the Cubs and Indians. Chance Adams may not get much of a chance if his first start doesn't go well. Adding another starter before the deadline is a big possibility as well as another bat that could help push the offense to the next level.

Cardinals place Andrew Knizner on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed catcher Andrew Knizner on the 10 Day IL due to a strained hamstring. Knizner injured himself in Friday's game against the Reds.

Knizner has done a good job as the backup to Molina and has played more as the Cards try to manage Molina's load in an attempt to keep him healthy all year, something that didn't occur in 2021.

Knizner is currently hitting .243 with 1 homerun and 6 RBI's in limited time as has done a great job of calling games behind the plate.

Ivan Herrera was recalled from Memphis to fill the vacant roster spot.

I'm a Yankees fan, but I like using the Red Sox in franchise. I have no emotional connection to the players, so I don't get pissed and quit when it's not going well. And I have no problems making changes to the team.

I'm 41 games into the season so far, playing every game. In first place by a couple games over the Jays. I can't get any run support for Chris Sale, who is 3-4, despite an ERA around 3.00. I'm dominating with Rodriguez though, who's 5-0.

Bogaerts and Devers are having great years, but the rest of my lineup has been struggling. JD Martinez is batting .201, but leading the league in walks.

Really enjoying this franchise, and it's my goal to play all 162.

Three game sweep of D-backs and it was all about the pitching!!

Game 1: We won 2-1.. Morton dominates the D-Backs starting line-up. Going 8 innings strong, yielding 1ER and W. Smith nails down the save.

Game 2: We won 2-1 again. Young Ynoa shines. Hurling 7 innings and managing thru the D-backs starting lineup. Giving up only 1ER. Smith with another save.

Game 3 : We won 1-0! My ace Soroka finally gets it rolling. he had a no hitter going through the 6th inning. He was my struggling SP, his ERA was at 4.50 coming into the game vs. the D-backs. He yielded another hit in the 8th inning. My bullpen maintains the shut out! Smith with another save. 10 for 10 in save opp. on the year.

We are 13-8 on the year. 2nd place, 0.5GB of the 1st place Marlins in the NL East.
The Cubs are rolling in for a four game series.. They are also 13-8 on the year and 2nd place in the NL Central.

Cardinals and Nationals split 4 game series

The Cardinals (18-7) split their 4 game series with the Nationals to start the week.

The teams traded wins with the Nats winning the series opener and Wednesday nights game, while the Cards won Tuesday night and Thursday's afternoon matinee. The series was a showcase of pitching and defense as there were no more than 3 runs scored in any game by either team.

The Cardinals will now travel to Chicago for a 3 game weekend series with the Cubs who are currently in 2nd place in the division, 2 games behind the Cardinals.

                            2021 Baltimore Orioles July 23-August 1st

                            Overall record:61-44

Orioles looking strong headed into series with Yankees

The Orioles came out of the all star break wanting to play better than .500 baseball as since April, they had been exactly .500. Since the break, the team has been 10-4 winning each series aside from a split in a two game series with the Marlins. The teams success could be because of the level of competition they have faced as four of the five teams they have faced have been in last place in their respective divisions (Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Miami and Detroit. Still, a very welcome stat has been the teams uptick in offensive production. Rio Ruiz continues to excel as he hit homeruns 29 and 30 in the last game of the Detroit series. His homerun total currently has him tied for second in the American League with Yordan Alvarez. In first by a decent margin is Giancarlo Stanton (37).

Michael Brantley has been a welcome addition to the team and currently leads in batting average (.278). Ryan Mountcastle is closing in at (.276) but he has been known to go on very hot and very cold streaks throughout the year. Jahmai Jones is also currently over .270 (.271). His production as significantly improved since he was moved to the bottom third of the lineup after starting the year in the lead off spot.

Grayson Rodriguez made his first two starts of his young career during this stretch. Both starts were great as he currently sits at a perfect 2-0. In the first game, he allowed just two runs in seven innings of work while stirking out two against the Marlins. His seconds start was a complete game shut out in the last game of the series that closed out the sweep versus the Tigers.

Speaking of the Tigers series, Dean Kremer nearly had a perfect game in the second of the series which ended in a 5-0 victory for the Orioles. Kremer brought a perfect game into 9th before Miguel Cabrera hit a single to lead off the inning. A double play and another out later and Kremer would finish his one hit, no walk, complete game shutout.

Up next is a series in New York as the Orioles travel to take on those pesky Yankees who currently sit a game and a half behind Baltimore (60-46).

                              Cardinals drop series to Cubs

The Cardinals (19-9) dropped 2 of 3 to the Cubs over the weekend as the Cubbies climb to just 1.5 games behind the Cards.

The Cardinals won a slugfest in the series opener Friday night 12-8 that saw the teams combined for 7 homeruns as the wind was blowing out in Wrigley. Jack Flaherty got the win despite the high scoring affair and Nolan Arenado snapped out of his funk with 2 homeruns and 6 RBI's.

Game 2 the Cardinals were blanked by Dan Winkler who pitched a complete game shutout in which he struck out 14 hitters against just 1 walk and 3 hits. The Cardinals never got a man past first base. Carlos Martinez struggled for the 2nd straight start since returning from the IL as he lasted just 5 innings (98 pitches) where he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits with 6 walks and 2 strikeouts.

The series finale on Sunday watched Max Scherzer get knocked around to take the loss as he pitched 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 11 hits with 3 walks and 5 striketouts. Scherzer gave up back to back to back homeruns in the 6th to Jason Heyward, Michael Brantley, and Willson Contreras. The Cards bats were ok against Davies, but only managed to push one run across the plate in a 8-1 defeat.

The Cardinals will head home to welcome the NL West leading Rockies (20-8) to town for a 3 game series starting Monday night.

                              Around the League

                              * The Padres have placed superstar Fernando Tatis Jr on the 10 Day IL with an elbow injury. Its expected that Tatis will not return for about a month.

                              * The Yankees are once again without Aaron Judge (ankle) and Giancarlo Stanton (knee) as both are on the 10 Day IL expected to miss about 2-3 weeks each

                              * The NL West has two surprises as the Rockies (20-8) leads the NL West 5 weeks through the season by 3.5 games over the Dodgers. The Padres are below .500 and struggling and have now lost Tatis for a month or so.

                              * The Angels are the top wildcard team thus far in the American League as they trail the Astros by just 2 games in the AL West. The Angels are relying on Shohei Ohtani's dominant pitching and Mike Trout's insane production at the plate.

                              * Speaking of Mike Trout he currently is hitting .413 through 5 weeks of baseball with 11 homeruns and 32 RBI's. Trout is putting up video game type numbers

                              * Thor's move (Noah Syndergaard) move to the Rockies hasn't stopped his dominance on the mound. He is a perfect 6-0 with a 1.72 ERA and has yet to allow a homerun this season. Absolutely ridiculous.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

ROYALS DROP SERIES TO LAST PLACE TIGERS

                                Game one:
                                WP: M. Fulmer (2-1)
                                LP: S. Barlow (1-3)
                                S: T. Skubal (2)

Both teams got good starting pitching in game one of the series. Brad Keller continued his strong stretch of games, going 7 innings and allowing just two runs. The Tigers nice start was by Matt Boyd, who allowed just a pair of runs in six innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, Scott Barlow entered into the game for KC. He got the first two Tigers batters he faced quickly, but then issued a walk to Wilson Ramos followed by a two run HR to Akil Baddoo to break the tie and give Detroit a 4-2 win.

                                Game two:
                                WP: T. Alexander (3-3)
                                LP: S. Barlow (1-4)
                                S: T. Skubal (3)

Much like in game one, it was a low scoring affair that saw Danny Duffy and Casey Mize go into the late innings pitching well. The Royals would hold a 3-2 lead over the Tigers after six.

In the seventh the Royals would once again turn to Scott Barlow, giving him the opportunity to put the last game behind him. In today’s game however it was a Wilson Ramos HR off Barlow that blew the save and would prove to be the game winning hit. The Tigers would add a pair of runs off of Kyle Zimmer in the 8th inning (his first runs allowed in 18.2 IP) to win 6-3.

                                Game three:
                                WP: M. Minor (4-1)
                                LP: M. Fulmer (2-2)
                                S: J. Staumont (6)

It was a scoreless game in the top of the fourth when Ryan O’Hearn hit a two run HR to break the 0-0 tie. The Royals would add another pair in the seventh on a Whit Merrifield rbi triple and a Salvy single brought Merrifield home. Wade Davis would give up a HR in the seventh to Candelario and Josh Staumont would give up a HR to Jacoby Jones in the 9th, but fortunately they were both solos and the Royals salvage the series with a 4-2 win. All of a sudden the Royals bullpen looks VERY shaky.

The Royals find themselves at 22-15, tied with the White Sox for second place and only .5 games back of the Twins in the AL Central. The Royals will face the a White Sox for three games next.

                                Starting pitcher probables:
                                B. Singer (1-2 4.33 ERA) vs C. Rodon (4-3 3.86 ERA)

                                K. Bubic (1-4 3.16 ERA) vs D. Keuchel (3-3 4.20 ERA)

                                B. Keller (4-2 3.38 ERA) vs D. Cease (0-3 4.65 ERA)

Royals option 2B Eric Meijia to Triple-A Omaha and recall RP Tyler Zuber from Omaha
