    Redbirds Rebound
Dylan Carlson doubles, Carlson went 4-4

The offense came out swinging in Game 2 following a 14 inning defeat the night before. Monday night's loss was deflating because it felt like a game the Cardinals let slip away. They put the frustration of a tough loss behind them and exploded for 13 runs on 16 hits including 5 HR. Paul Goldschmidt slugged 2 HR bringing his total to 10 on the season and added 6 RBI bringing his total to 28. Goldschmidt came into last Saturdays contest with only 5 HR but has erupted over the last several games and is arguably the hottest hitter in baseball right now.

SP Kwang Hyun Kim was forced to exit the game early with what team doctors are calling a finger contusion on his left middle finger. It is unaware if Kim will make his next scheduled start on Sunday vs Colorado With a bullpen that has been stretched out over the last few games, it might make sense to add an extra arm between now and Sunday. The Cardinals still have 4 games until their next off day on Monday.

Cardinals Place SP Kim (finger) on IL

Call-up RHP Jake Woodford from AAA-Memphis

The Cardinals made a roster move Wednesday morning, calling up RHP Jake Woodford from AAA-Memphis. Woodford will likely head to the bullpen to provide innings support for a unit that has been taxed over the last 3 games.

The Cardinals will need to make another roster decision in the coming days to determine a starter in place of Kim on Sunday. Kim exited Tuesday's game in the 5th inning with a contusion under his left middle finger

        ROYALS SPLIT SERIES AGAINST REDS

        Game one:
        WP: K. Bubic (6-6)
        LP: W. Miley (2-10)

Bubic had a rough first inning, walking a pair and giving up a couple singles, but got out of it with just one run allowed.

In the bottom of the first, the Royals got an RBI single from Soler and a two run HR from Ryan McBroom.

Bubic settled down, going six innings while allowing just one run. Wade Miley for the Reds was not as sharp though, as the Royals put up five runs in his four innings. Mike Lorenzen would be the second pitcher the Royals would face, and in the seventh inning would score five. Soler would hit a HR, Santana would drive in a run, as would McBroom and Nicky Lopez.

The two teams would each score a pair in the eighth, and the Royals win the game easily 13-2.

The Royals did commit three errors uncharacteristically, but the pitching was solid enough for it not to matter.

*Alaberto Mondesi has been reinstated from the IL, Erick Mejia has been option to triple-a Omaha.

        Game two:
        WP: L. Castillo (6-8)
        LP: D. Duffy (6-4)

In Duffy’s second start from returning from the IL, it was the Reds who jumped out the early advantage. Tyler Naquin hit a two run HR in the second, and former Royals hero Mike Moustakas hit a solo HR in the fourth.

Mike Matheny may have left Duffy in an inning too long, as he gave up a two run HR to Nick Castellanos in the seventh, the third HR surrendered by Duffy in the game.

Luis Castillo was sensational for the Reds. His change up kept the Royals off balance all day. He would complete the complete game shutout, giving up just three hits and striking out 10 Royals.

        Game three:
        WP: G. Holland (1-0)
        LP: M. Lorenzen (0-1)
        S: S. Barlow (1)

In the bottom of the second and the bases loaded, Jarrod Dyson came through with a single off of Sonny Gray that scored Santana. Mondesi got greedy and was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

The bottom of the third was kicked off by a Whit Merrifield walk and a Soler single. On an 0-2 pitch, Carlos Santana hit a three run HR, his 22nd of the year already, to give the Royals a 4-0 lead. The Royals would add another run in a Viloria single that scored Mondesi.

Leading off the fifth, a fastball got away from Royals SP Mike Minor and hit Joey Votto. Votto had to come out of the game due to injury and was replaced by Mike Freeman. Freeman would come into score two batters later on an Chris Oakey two out double. Shogo Akiyama would drive in another run, but be thrown out by Dyson trying turn it into a double. Royals take a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, Jonathan India hit a solo HR to trim it to a 5-3 lead and Minor was replaced by Richard Lovelady.

Lovelady got through the sixth easily, but he stayed in the seventh to face a very left hand dominant part of the lineup. Mike Freeman singled against him and Tucker Barnhart hit a game tying two run HR.

Wade Davis would come in and hit the first batter before walking the second. He would get the next two batters to fly out, but two ups pitch around Jesse Winker and load the bases. Greg Holland would come in to face Mike Moustakas, and got him to chase a changeup of a full count count to end the inning tied at 5. After the strikeout however, Holland would be replaced by Scott Barlow due to injury.

In the next half inning, it was Soler and Dozier walking before Mondesi hit a two run triple with two outs, putting the Royals up 7-5.

In the ninth the Royals got RBI singles by McBroom and Soler off of Amir Garrett, who came into this game with a 7.15 era.

With the Royals pushing it to a four run lead, they left Barlow in for the 9th and he is credited with a six out save.

The Royals get their 50th win and will head to slumping Cleveland for a four game series before the All Star break.

ROYALS DROP 3 OF 4 IN CLEVELAND

          Game one:
          WP: Z. Plesac (8-5)
          LP: B. Singer (7-6)
          S: E. Clase (9)

Michael Taylor put the Royals up 4-0 with a two out Grand Slam in the first against Zach Plesac, giving Brady Singer some run support, which he quickly gave back.

Eddie Rosario hit a three run home run in the bottom of the first, followed by a Andres Gimenez double to tie it at 4. Then Austin Hedges singled him in and the Indians take a 5-4 lead to the second inning.

Andrew Benintendi tied the game on a sac fly in the second.

Both pitchers seemed to settle in but in the fifth, Singer allowed an RBI single to Jose Ramirez and another HR, this time to Owen Miller, a two run HR putting the Indians back ahead 8-5.

The Indians would add another run against Jakob Junis making it 9-5, before the Royals made a furious attempt on a comeback. Merrifield would hit his 11th HR of the season and Benintendi would single in a run as well. Down 9-7 in the ninth against Emmanuel Clase, the Royals would load the bases for Michael Taylor with two outs. He would hit a single to right field that would score one but was hit too sharply for the tying run to come in. Clase would then get Hunter Dozier to strikeout to end the game.

Salvador Perez is now feeling healthy and will return to starting.

          Game two:
          WP: B. Keller (10-6)
          LP: (5-7)

Whit Merrifield hit his 12th HR on the first pitch of the game off of Sam Hentges.

The Indians would load the bases against Brad Keller, but he would get through the inning keeping the Indians scoreless.

The Royals would add to the lead in the second, on a Ryan McBroom solo HR. They would stretch it out in third on a two run HR from Soler, and a two run double by Michael Taylor. Hanser Alberto would walk in a run, Salvy would drive on in on a single, and Soler would walk in yet another. Up 9-0 in the third and the bases still loaded, Carlos Santana would fly out to end the inning.

The Indians would finally get on the board, with an RBI from Chang and Gimenez.

Up 9-2 in the 4th, Taylor would double in yet another pair before being driven in by Merrifield on a double. Up 13-2 the Royals would turn to Lovelady and Davis, each for an inning. Both relievers would give up a run but the Royals win comfortably 13-4.

          Game three:
          WP: T. McKenzie (6-6)
          LP: K. Bubic (6-7)

Salvy picked up the RBI double in the second to put the Royals in the lead 1-0.

In the third however, Bubic would fight his control, walking Owen Miller and Roberto Perez, before giving up the triple to Roccio and HR to Franmil Reyes on back to back pitches. Indians take a 4-1 lead to the fourth.

Mondesi and Taylor reach to start the inning, and with two outs are driven in by Merrifield on a double.

Bubic allowed to to reach in the fifth but looked like he was going to get out of it. With runners at second and third with two outs he induced a ground ball right back to him. Unfortunately he threw the ball over Santana’s head at first and a pair scored, making it 6-3 Indians.

Kyle Zimmer fell apart in the fifth, allowing five runs to score and the game was never close again. Neither team would score the rest of the way and the Indians win 11-3.

*Bobby Whitt Jr and Asa Lacey named to AL Futures team

          Game four:
          WP: S. Bieber (7-6)
          LP: (6-5)

In the final game before the All Star break, Danny Duffy would go Danny Duffy go five innings allowing six runs.

On the other mound was Shane Bieber, and against a make shift lineup from the Royals, he coasted to a complete game shutout.

ALL STAR FESTIVITIES AND TRADE DEADLINE PREP

            HR DERBY LINEUP:
            Mike Trout vs Lourdes Gurriel
            Jorge Soler vs Max Muncy
            Keston Hiura vs Juan Soto
            Anthony Rizzo vs Carlos Santana

Two Royals were selected to compete in the 2021 HR Derby in Colorado. Soler would face Max Muncy in the first round. Muncy put up 19 HRs but Soler would hit 20, including a 495 ft HR to advance!

Carlos Santana would lead off his matchup against Anthony Rizzo and would put up 15 HRs. Rizzo would hit 13 so both Royals advance to the second round.

            Second round:
            Mike Trout vs Jorge Soler
            Juan Soto vs Carlos Santana

Jorge Soler would hit 19 to start the second round, but was beat by Trout who hit 20.

Just like Soler, Santana hit 19 to start his matchup against Soto. Soto would only hit 13 though so Carlos Santana would advance to the finals to face Mike Trout.

A very tired Carlos Santana would put up 14 HRs to start the finals, which was obviously never going to stand up. Trout hit 15 HRs to claim the trophy. Trout also hit the farthest HR at 500 ft exactly.

*after the HR Derby, the Boston Red Sox have traded prospect SS Jeter Downs to the Colorado Rockies for CF Yonathan Daza. The Red Sox are five back in the WC and are getting absolutely nothing out of the RFs on the roster. The Rockies look to be adding a quality option for the future in a post Trevor Story era.

Whit Merrifield and Salvador Perez were named All Star game starters and Carlos Santana, Jorge Soler and Josh Staumont were added to the team as reserves.

Whit Merrifield hit a solo HR in his second at bat, against Trevor Bauer to give the AL a 1-0 lead. He would also hit a double in his third at bat to put runners at second and third with one out. The rest of the Royals batters would go 0-3 and Josh Staumont would not pitch in the game.

The NL walked off the AL in ten innings, on a Michael Conforto double off of Raisel Iglesias that scored Jeff McNeil.

Angel Zerpa (RP) and Seuly Matias (RF) would make the triple-a all star team.

Scott Blewett (SP), M.J. Melendez (C), Jimmy McGovern (2B), Dairon Blanco (CF), and Erick Pena (RF) would make the double-a all star team.

            Trade Deadline prep:
Now that the All-Star break is behind us, the Royals will look to improve a couple key areas of the team.

We will be in the market to add a left handed relief pitcher. We’ve tried giving opportunities to Jake Brentz and Richard Lovelady and neither have done much with the chance. We will probably be adding Daniel Lynch to the MLB roster full time. He would pitch out of the bullpen to give us a second lefty. If we can accomplish this, then it is possible we DFA Wade Davis.

We will probably be looking also for another corner outfielder. We are looking for one that can be a good defender but hit right handed pitching.

Other than that I believe this team is ready to go compete for the division. As the second half of the season starts, the standings look like this:

            AL Central:
            Royals 51-39
            Twins 50-42 (2 GB)
            White Sox 49-42 (2.5 GB)
            Indians 43-48 (8.5 GB)
            Tigers 38-54 (14 GB)

Acquired an outfielder (generated player) with 70's contact, vision, discipline and clutch. He was a key to me going from 11 games under .500 to 4 games under .500 in a couple weeks time. Just sustained a leg injury. Out for 2 or 3 months.

If it wasn't for bad luck I'd be out of luck.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

We've hit the halfway point of the 2021 season in my Braves franchise. We took two out of three from the Mets to open up a 5.5-game lead in the NL East. We're 53-28 heading into the last stretch before the All-Star break. With six games against the Marlins and three agains the Pirates, we have a chance to open things up a bit more.

The NL is pretty much six teams vying for five playoff spots. The Braves/Mets in the East; Brewers/Reds in the Central; and Dodgers/Padres in the West.

The Yankees have a commanding lead in the AL East, and the Astros have a pretty comfortable lead in the West. The Twins and White Sox are tied in the Central. That last wild-card spot is a free-for-all though. The A's, Angels, Indians, Rays and Red Sox are all in contention for it. And the Blue Jays, Rangers and Royals aren't too far out.

The Braves and Red Sox have been the only active contenders on the trade front so far. The Sox acquired Eli White and Brian Goodwin in separate deals with the Rangers and Pirates. Joc has gone cold since I acquired him; going to need him to get going.

ROYALS TAKE 2 OF 3 AGAINST PESKY ORIOLES

*Royals option RP Richard Lovelady and RP Jesse Hahn to triple-a Omaha and recall SP Daniel Lynch, purchase the contract of Asa Lacy.

                  Game one:
                  WP: D. Kremer (1-12)
                  LP: M. Minor (6-5)

Mike Minor got roughed a bit in the first inning, giving up an RBI double to Jordan Westburg and another run on a single to Cedric Mullins.

The Orioles sent SP Dean Kremer to the mound, looking to work on his 0-12 record on the year.

In the top of the fourth, Austin Hays hit a solo shot to put the birds on top 3-0 against Minor.

Cedric Mullins would add a two run HR in the sixth, and Minor would depart for Asa Lacy, coming out of the bullpen to make his MLB debut.

Lacy would pitch 2.2 scoreless innings but the Royals offense was completely shut down. The Orioles win 5-0 lead and the Royals had just 2 hits.

                  Game two:
                  WP: K. Zimmer (3-0)
                  LP: C. Sulser (1-2)
                  S: J. Staumont (24)

The Orioles once again jumped on the Royals in the first inning. This time it was an RBI single by Austin Hays off of Brad Keller to put the Orioles up 1-0.

In the second inning, Keller began the inning by hitting Pedro Severino and giving up a two run HR to Maikel Franco. Chase Sisco would hit another HR off Keller and for back to back days the Royals were down 5-0 to the lowly Orioles.

Mondesi would get the Royals on the board with an RBI single in the fifth off of Bruce Zimmerman.

In the seventh, the two teams would trade solo HRs, Pat Valaika and Alaberto Mondesi.

In the eighth inning the Royals offense finally got moving. Salvy would single and be driven in by a deep double from Soler. Carlos Santana would walk and then Mondesi would single in a run. Jarrod Dyson would pinch run for Santana at second, and the two base runners would pull off a double steal getting in position for Andrew Benintendi.

Benintendi would hit the ball to the Freddy Galvis who booted it and everyone was safe. It was 6-5 Orioles with one out, runners at the corners for Hunter Dozier. On a 3-2 count Dozier hit a laser off the left field wall and the Royals have competed the comeback, ahead 7-6.

Josh Staumont would come pitch a scoreless 9th and the Royals win.

                  Game three:
                  WP: J. Staumont (2-2)
                  LP: T. Scott (0-4)

For the third straight game, Royals starting pitching was bad early. Danny Duffy gave up two first inning runs on an Anthony Santander double that scored Mountcastle and Mancini.

The Royals would answer immediately though on RBIs by Santana and Dozier in the bottom of the first.

Trey Mancini would then take Duffy deep in the third, but Salvy matched him in the bottom of the inning.

The Orioles would take their third lead of the game when Mancini singles in Mountcastle in the fifth. There was a play at the plate, and Salvador Perez had to leave the game due to injury after the play.

In the bottom of the seventh, Soler would lead off the inning with a game tying solo HR off of Shawn Armstrong.

The game would go into extras. Josh Staumont pitched the top of the inning and would retire the Orioles in orders.

Jarrod Dyson would pinch hit for Soler as the auto runner, and on the first pitch that Carlos Santana saw, he hit a slow roller past the mound and into CF for the walk off single.

The Royals did not pitch well in any game of the series, but the offense bailed them out, making comebacks in the last two games.

Salvador Perez lat muscle strain and will go to the 10 day DL. The Royals will recall Cam Gallagher.

                  Around the league:
*Red Sox make another trade, this time acquiring OF Khris Davis from the Rangers for prospect C Connor Wong. Red Sox are all in on a WC spot and sit just 4 GB

Cardinals drop 3 of 4 to Padres...struggles continue

The Cardinals (37-22) continue to struggle in the month of June as they dropped 3 of 4 to the Padres over the weekend in San Diego. A Padres team that is missing Fernando Tatis Jr, Blake Snell, and Trent Grisham.

Luckily the Cardinals avoided the sweep by winning Sunday afternoon behind Kwang Hyun Kim's dominant performance, but the Cardinals have yet to win a series in June and are now tied with the red hot Brewers atop the Central Division.

The Cardinals will now make the short trip from San Diego to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers for a 3 game series to begin the week. And off day Thursday as the Cards travel home to face the Pirates for a 3 game weekend series.

Nolan Arenado will return for Pirate series this weekend

The Cardinals got a bit of good news Sunday, when they learned that all-star 3B Nolan Arenado will return to the lineup in St.Louis this coming weekend when the Cardinals host the Pirates. Arenado was sidelined a week ago with a shoulder injury, and was expected to miss 2-3 weeks, but thankfully he's closer to the 2 week side of that timeframe.

Arenado couldn't return at a better time as the Cardinals offense has been stagnant since his departure.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

ROYALS SWEEP BREWERS IN TWO GAME SERIES IN MILWAUKEE
                      Game one:

                      WP: A. Lacy (1-0)
                      LP: B. Sutter (3-3)
                      S: K. Zimmer (4)

After a good first inning for both pitchers, the Brewers opened up a doubles avalanche against Brady Singer in the second. Kolten Wong, Avisail Garcia, Manny Pina, and Lorenzo Cain all had second inning doubles and when the inning was over had put up four runs.

Singer would settle down, going five innings and allowing just the four runs. Unfortunately for the Royals, through five innings they had just one hit off of Brandon Woodruff.

Despite giving up just that one hit, Woodruff had a high pitch count and was replaced by Trevor Richards in the top of the eighth. Viloria led off the inning with a walk and scored on a Whit Merrifield double. After a Jorge Soler walk, the Brewers turned to Josh Hader to face Carlos Santana. On a 2-2 count, Santana got a mistake and hit it out to left field for a three run game tying HR. 4-4 game.

The game would stay scoreless until the top of the 10th, when Merrifield hit a double that scored the auto runner (Dyson pinch running for the pitcher’s spot).

In the bottom of the 9th, the biggest mistake you can make occurred. After pinch running for the pitcher’s spot, a new pitcher wasn’t inserted into the game on time and Jarrod Dyson had to take the mound to face three batters. He did get Keston Hiura to ground out, allowing the runner to advance to third. The Royals then intentionally walked Wily Adames. Avisail then hit a ground ball sharply at Whit Merrifield, but it was too hard and kicked off his glove and the tying run scored. The Royals were then able to put Asa Lacy into the game, but much to late due to a catastrophic error. Lacy would retire the next two batters and the game went to the 11th.

Hunter Dozier became the 11th with a walk, then Michael Taylor came through with an infield single to load the bases for Viloria. Viloria hit a sac fly and the Royals took another extra inning lead. Cam Gallagher would then come up and get an single to give the Royals an insurance run. Whit Merrifield would then get a single on a 3-2 count to push the lead to 8-5.

Kyle Zimmer would pitch a perfect bottom of the eleventh and the Royals win an exciting game, and Asa Lacy notched the first win of his career.

                      Game two:
                      WP: K. Bubic (7-7)
                      LP: J. Lindblom (4-4)
                      S: D. Lynch (1)

Unlike game one, the Royals got the offense going early. Whit Merrifield led the game off with a double against Josh Lindblom, and was replaced by Andrew Benintendi when he doubled him in. Soler was hit by pitch, and Santana singled Merrifield home. Lindblom would get out of the inning, but not before the Royals had jumped ahead 2-0.

Both pitchers would get to the fifth with little resistance, but with two outs in the top of the inning, Santana walked to load the bases for Hunter Dozier. He would smash the ball on the ground, but right to the shortstop to end the threat.

In the top of the sixth however the Royals would be denied. After a single and a stolen base, Michael Taylor launched his sixth HR of the season to take a 4-0 lead.

Going into the bottom of the seventh, Kris Bubic had just given up one hit. However Tyrone Taylor would go opposite field for a double, and Keston Hiura would cut the lead with a HR, making it 4-2 Royals. He would retire the next three batters though and finish with a stat line of seven strong innings, allowing two runs on three hits.

Josh Staumont had thrown a lot of innings recently, so with the part of the lineup for the Brewers coming up being lighter hitters vs left handed pitchers, the Royals turned to Daniel Lynch in the ninth. The lead off hitter Tyrone Taylor reached via single, but was erased with Keston Hiura hit into a double play. Lynch then got Avisail Garcia to fly out to end the game, and Lynch earned his first career save.

The Royals are now 4-1 since the break, and 55-40 overall.

Bit of a rough start for the Devils so far this season as they sit at .500 only 1.5 GB of first some how. Offense has basically been non existent with Darnell and Bote carrying the team. The guys who I thought were going to hit: Jake Cave, Kyle Schwarber, Ryon Healy, and Eli Ybarra are all hitting under .250 most barely cracking .200. The pitching on the other hand has been the saving grace with Ian Anderson dominating and Andrew Heaney living up the the contract. Alex Reyes has been a stud in the long relief and Pedro Strop has been basically unhittable so far saving 7 games and not allowing a run.

Dalton Pompey was leading the team in average at .344 until he went down with a Fractured leg sidelining him for two months. I called up Spencer Brickhouse and made a move acquiring Adam Duvall from the Braves for Hasuan Viera B potential LF, with that move I optioned Billy Burns to Triple A and put Cole Tucker in CF to start.

Hopefully the bats will show up in May or else I might have to make some drastic changes to this offense.

I haven't posted many updates this year, but I have finished my first season as the Cardinals and I went 81-81 and did not make the playoffs. I decided to go all in for 2022 and spent heaps of money (all but about 9 mil of my available funds) on getting players like Trevor Story, Starling Marte, Raisel Iglesias, and Roberto Osuna.

That being said, we are almost at a quarter of the way through the season now, and sitting with the best record in baseball at 27-8. The pitching has been elite and our offense has been very good as well. I had a lot of fun through the struggles of 2021 being such a .500 year all season, and I'm having fun getting back to winning in 2022.

Breaking news: The Kansas City Royals have agreed to a pair of deals, one with the Chicago Cubs, and the other with the Toronto Blue Jays

The Royals receive OF Joc Pederson (12 HR, 51 RBI, .268)
The Cubs receive prospects SP Austin Cox and 2B Erick Mejia

Joc Pederson gives the Royals another left handed bat that provides some power against right handed pitching. He will be a part of a platoon.

                            and also

The Royals receive RP Julian Merriweather (3-2, 5.74 ERA, 42.1 IP)
The Blue Jays receive 3B Kelvin Gutierrez, SS Jeison Guzman, and SP Jace Vines

Julian Merriweather’s ERA is high, but with the “stuff” he has, the Royals believe that pitching coach Cal Eldred can turn his season around and he can be a valuable piece of the bullpen. The Royals have a nice track record of getting the most out of bullpen arms.

The Royals have optioned Nicky Lopez to triple-a Omaha and are attempting to pass Wade Davis through waivers.

*all trades I make are as realistic as possible, taking in account the needs for both teams. If I fail at that they are at least fair in value (or I take the lesser value) according to https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator/

                              Cards Split Series vs Mets
The Cardinals earned a series split with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Mets Thursday afternoon.
Paul Goldschmidt's red hot streak continued as he collected two more hits including an RBI double that nearly got over the LF wall. Goldschmidt lined a single to CF in the 1st inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

SP Adam Wainwright was removed from the game due to oblique tightness in the 5th inning. Wainwright had been perfect up until that point. The Mets didnt get their first baserunner until Luis Guillorme led off the 6th inning with a single off Jake Woodford.
Waino's exit was strictly precautionary but we wont know the extent of anything until an MRI confirms. The Cardinal bullpen has been stellar so far this season but only time will tell if they can withstand such a high usage rate early in the season.
                              Next Up..
The Cardinals welcome the Colorado Rockies to town starting tomorrow night at Busch Stadium

                                ROYALS DROP SERIES TO TIGERS

                                WP: J. Junis (7-2)
                                LP: K. Funkhouser (4-3)
                                S: J. Staumont (25)

After a clean first inning for both pitchers, Brad Keller had to be removed after his first pitch in the second with an elbow injury and is slated to have MRI after the game. Daniel Lynch took over on the mound for the Royals.

The Tigers would score first, on a two out solo HR from Jacoby Jones against Jakob Junis in the fifth.

The Royals would tie the game on a two out rally in the bottom of the inning. Dozier would walk and advance to second on a wild pitch, and come around to score on a Viloria double. He would then score in a single by Merrifield to take a 2-1 lead for the Royals.

The score would remain 2-1 until 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th. Carlos Santana worked a walk ahead of newly acquired Joc Pederson, who would hit an absolute bomb to RF to extend the lead to 4-1.

Josh Staumont would close it out in the ninth and the Royals win.

*Brad Keller has elbow inflammation and is day to day. He shouldn’t miss a start, but it might be bumped back a day.

                                Game two:
                                WP: J. Jimenez (3-1)
                                LP: J. Staumont (2-3)
                                S: D. Norris (17)

The Royals would score first in a Carlos Santana sac fly in the first, but the Tigers would answer with a two run HR by Daz Cameron in the third off of Danny Duffy. The Tigers would extend the lead on a Grayson Greiner double in the fourth and Duffy would leave after just 4.2 innings after getting roughed up for 4 runs on 10 hits.

Down 4-1 in the seventh and trying to break through against Michael Fulmer, the Royals loaded the bases for Meibrys Viloria. He got a fastball on the inner half of the plate and hit it just over the wall for a Grand Slam, giving the Royals the 5-4 lead and knocking Fulmer out in the process.

Joe Jimenez would come in for the Tigers and immediately walk Andrew Benintendi before giving up back to back singles to Soler and Santana to drive in another run. Pederson would fly out to end the inning but the Royals take the 6-4 lead to the eighth.

Josh Staumont would take the mound in the ninth and walk Niko Goodrum to lead off the inning. Daz Cameron would come up with another extra base hit, driving a pitch to the gap in right CF to triple in a run. The Tigers had the tying run at third with no outs for Robbie Grossman. Grossman was trying to elevate a pitch to the outfield to tie the game, but did it even better, driving a HR to dead center giving the Tigers the lead with still no outs.

Greg Holland would enter the game and retire the side, sending it to the bottom of the ninth with the Royals trailing 7-6. Viloria would pop up to lead off the inning, but then Merrifield singled. McBroom and Soler would both be retired to end the game.

                                Game three:
                                WP: B. Garcia (1-0)
                                LP: G. Holland (0-1)

The game would be scoreless into the fifth inning. Mike Minor was excellent, and Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd had given up a bunch of hits, had controlled the damage.

Cam Gallagher would single to lead off the fifth, and with one down, Hanser Alberto would double him in to break the tie.

Kyle Zimmer would work the ninth. He got a lead off out but the walked Niko Goodrum. Willi Castro chopped the ball back to the pitcher but too slow to attack the lead runner, so that left it up to Akil Baddoo. On a 1-1 count he hit a chopper back up the middle that found the outfield grass and Michael Taylor’s strong throw to the plate was just late and the Tigers tie it 1-1 as the Royals blow the save for the second straight game. Grayson Greiner would come up and hit a line drive to the gap but Taylor was able to use his speed to track it down to end the inning.

The bottom of the ninth was uneventful and the game will go to extras.

Greg Holland would come into the game and immediately walk Robbie Grossman. Facing Daz Cameron, Holland would bounce a changeup in the dirt and both runners would advance into scoring position with nobody out.

Cameron would hit the ball to shallow right field, not deep enough to test. The Royals would intentionally walk Willi Castro to set up the force at any base. Instead, Jonathan Schoop would pop up to the catcher for the second out. Facing Jeimer Candelario, on a full count Holland hit the zone with a changeup, but it was ruled a ball and the go ahead run walked in. Niko Goodrum would then single back up the middle and the Tigers jump up 4-1. The wheels fell off as Harold Castro then hit a three run HR.

In the bottom of the tenth, Hanser Alberto and Joc Pederson would drive in runs to make it 7-3 with two outs. Hunter Dozier would walk, bringing Andrew Benintendi to the plate. On a full count, the ump called Benintendi out on strikes on a ball below the zone to end the game, rather than loading the bases and bringing the tying run to the plate. The Tigers win 7-3, but the outcome could have been different if not for a couple questionable calls that went the Tigers way.

The Royals drop two of three and fall into a tie with the White Sox for first place ahead of a four game series with them.
