Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

ROYALS GO TO BALTIMORE, DON’T FULLY CAPITALIZE
    Game one:
    WP: B. Singer (10-9)
    LP: B. Zimmermann (8-9)
    S: J. Staumont (30)

Orioles SP Bruce Zimmerman only made it 4+ innings, getting roughed up for six runs on nine hits.

Brady Singer would go six innings and allow only one run. The Orioles would get within striking distance when Trey Mancini hit a two run HR in the seventh to pull to within 6-4, but the Royals would add a run in the eight and win 7-4.

    Game two:
    WP: D. Duffy (7-7)
    LP: A. Plutko (11-8)

Joc Pederson’s solo HR with two outs in the fourth out the Royals up 1-0, but Cedric Mullins tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

In the sixth inning, the Royals would load the bases with one out for Joc Pederson. He jumped on a first pitch fastball from Adam Plutko for a grand slam, putting the Royals ahead for good, as they win 8-3 for their fifth win in a row.

    Game three:
    WP: Z. Lowther (1-1)
    LP: B. Keller (10-11)
    S: C. Valdez (29)

This time it was the Orioles jumping out to an early 3-0 lead off of Brad Keller, and extended it to 7-1 after just 2.1 innings pitched.

Jakob Junis would come in and pitch the last 5.2 innings scoreless, but the Royals could only get within 7-4.

    Game four:
    WP: J. Means (4-8)
    LP: K. Bubic (9-9)
    S: C. Valdez (30)

The Royals went to the ninth down 5-2, and put runners at second and third with one out. Salvador Perez took a pitch and hammered it to deep left center, but it died on the warning track, just feet away from a game tying HR. It became a sac fly, and Jorge Soler grounded out to end the game.

For a team battling to make it to the playoffs, this was a frustrating series. When you win the first two of a four game series against the Orioles you would like to come away with more than a split.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

My Braves made a couple of minor moves heading into the final weekend before the All-Star break. First we acquired minor league shortstop Andre Anderson from the Marlins in exchange for outfielder Phillip Ervin. Then we acquired infielder Ryan Goins from the White Sox for second baseman Jason Kipnis and a low-level prospect.

With the deadline approaching, the Braves were looking to open up some budget space* to make moves closer to the end of the month.

The Red Sox have been active, getting Eli White (Rangers) and Brian Goodwin (Pirates) before the end of June. Now they've attempted to bolster their rotation, getting Jon Gray from the Rockies for a pair of prospects.

The White Sox acquired Nick Solak from the Rangers while the A's picked up Yolmer Sanchez from the Orioles.

*The game has given me about $32M in budget space, but I'm playing as though Liberty Media has told me to keep player payroll at $150M (so it can keep the rest for profit). I had about $2M in room before unloading Ervin and Kipnis. Now I have about $6M to add on at the deadline.

        Game one:
        WP: J. Junis (8-3)
        LP: C. Irvin (3-2)

The Royals got a nice bounce back start from Brad Keller, as he went six innings allowing just one run, but was still behind as the Royals were being shut out by Jesus Luzardo.

With one out in the seventh however, Seuly Matias triples ahead of Alaberto Mondesi. Mondesi would drive him in with a sac fly and we have a whole new game, 1-1.

The game would go to extras, and Josh Staumont would pitch a scoreless top of the 10th. When the Royals got their chance to bat, they could not get the hit the needed, so the game went to the 11th.

Josh Staumont would stay in the game, and get through the 11th scoreless as well.

The game would go into the 12th inning, and Junis would enter for the Royals, and shut the Athletics down.

In the bottom of the inning, Michael Taylor would lay down a bunt and move the auto runner to third.

With a left handed Cole Irvin on the mound, the Royals turn to Lucius Fox, and the rookie came through with the sac fly to walk it off.

        Game two:
        WP: S. Manaea (10-13)
        LP: K. Bubic (9-10)

Kris Bubic was pitching well, but the defense let him down in the early innings, as two errors by Seuly Matias accounted for three unearned runs. With the score 3-1 in Oakland’s favor in the bottom of the fifth, the Royals loaded the bases for Jorge Soler with two outs. Soler was over aggressive and struck out to end the threat.

The Royals would have many more chances, but at the end of the game they had squandered most of them, and lost 5-2.

        Game three:
        WP: J. Merryweather (6-6)
        LP: J. Wendelken (4-8)

Mike Minor ran into trouble early, and walked in two runs for the A’s to take a 2-0 lead, but he was lights out afterwards going six strong.

The Royals, down 2-1 in the seventh, scored two runs on RBI’s from Mondesi and Lopez to take a 3-2 lead, and the bullpen was perfect. The Royals win the series and are now just a half game out of the WC with 15 games to go.

          Detroit Tigers MLB 2021
          Motorcity Baseball

June 20th 2022 Detroit is 27-37, 8 games back of The White Sox and opens a 6 game home stand against Cleveland and Baltimore after taking 3 of 4 from The Angels. The bad news is, that puts them bottom.of the Division. The good news is, that has the front office inclined in making some changes. Welcome Spencer Torkelson day! After 60 games in AAA this season he's hit 12 Hr'swith an .847 OPS and .285 avg. What does this mean for future Hall of Famer, Miguel Cabrera? Who knows but for at least today he is being rested. Harold Castro will be the DH and Torkelson gets the nod at 1B.

          **Torkelson went 1/4 in a 2-0 win. 1 K, 1 single, 1 GIDP, 1 popfly out to LF.

June 22nd 2022. Detroit gave up 2 corner outfielders in 28 yr old Harold Castro and the expiring contract of Robbie Grossman. In return 28 yr old Johan Camargo habeas to Detroit from Atlanta. The Braves are .5 games out of The Wild Card and desperately need corner outfield help. Camargo was stuck behind Austin Riley so didn't have many chances to breakout. He has had a total of 137 AB's with 31 hits, 30 K's and 4 Hr's. Detroit hopes more playing time will increase his development. Atlanta meanwhile are excited to receive Castro as he is having an impressive year hitting .317 and a .358 OBP. Robbie Grossman was playing sparingly this year after the call up of Daz Cameron and hopefully this helps with the logjam at the outfield positions. This also gives Detroit more opportunities to see what they have in other prospects like Christin Stewart and maybe even Detroit's number 1 prospect Riley Greene now that Spencer Torkelson is up in the Majors. Johan is a natural 3B but with Jeime Candelario and Renato Nunez already platooning the other option is he gets a chance at SS as the Miguel Rojas experiment hasn't gone quite to plan and Niko Goodrum is wearing out his stay as well.

THINGS GET TOUGH AFTER SERIES AGAINST SEATTLE
            Game one:
            WP: J. Staumont (6-4)
            LP: K. Middleton (3-3)

Mariners SP Logan Gilbert completely shut down the Royals offense through 8 innings, allowing just one hit. Conversely, the Royals got an excellent start from Brady Singer who allowed just one run in six innings.

The Mariners held a 2-0 lead headed to the ninth, and fortunately for KC, the Mariners went to the bullpen for Ken Giles.

Facing the hard throwing righty, the Royals bats came alive. Joc Pederson doubled in a run to cut it to 2-1, and with one out the Royals put runners at the corners for Carlos Santana. Santana would work the count full, but pop up harmlessly to the second baseman.

The Mariners would call for the bullpen again with Kenyan Middleton, and the Royals would counter by pinch hitting Salvador Perez, who on the first pitch, laced a single into left field to tie the game at 2.

The game would go to the tenth, and Staumont would get through it scoreless.

Hanser Alberto would strikeout to start the bottom half, but Lucius Fox would split the LF gap and drive in the winning run.

            Game two:
            WP: J. Dunn (5-7)
            LP: D. Duffy (7-9)

Just like game one, the Mariners got a dominant starting pitching performance, this time from Justin Dunn. However, there was no late inning drama and the Royals lose 7-0.

            Game three:
            WP: B. Keller (11-11)
            LP: M. Gonzales (8-9)
            S: J. Staumont (32)

The Royals used a big second inning off of Marco Gonzales to jump ahead 6-0. The Mariners would score three runs in the fifth off of Brad Keller, but it wasn’t enough. The Royals offense was paced by Michael Taylor, who drove in three runs, and Fox added a couple more.

The Royals are 80-70, tied for the second WC spot with the Angels. They’ll now go on a road trip to Cleveland and Detroit for three games each.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

              Game one:
              WP: J. Karinchak (3-4)
              LP: J. Staumont (6-5)

Kris Bubic would give up two runs in the first before getting settled in and going five.

Carlos Vargas for the Indians continued the streak of great starts against us, going 6.2 innings allowing just one run.

Going into the ninth still down 2-1, Hunter Dozier led off with a walk. Jarrod Dyson pinch ran and moved to second on a ground out from Michael Taylor. A wild pitch would move Dyson to third, and Meibrys Viloria tied the game on a sac fly against James Karinchak.

The tenth went by with a run, and the Royals were also kept off the board in the eleventh. When the Indians came to the plate, Oscar Mercado would single to put runners at the corners. Staumont would walk Darnell Sweeney intentionally to set up the force play, but Jose Ramirez would hit a sac fly to walk off the Royals.

              Game two:
              WP: M. Minor (10-6)
              LP: S. Bieber (9-13)

The Royals would take a 3-0 lead on the Indians in the third, when Mondesi doubled in a pair off of Shane Bieber and Soler singled him in.

Mike Minor would give up seven hits in his seven innings of work, but would keep the Indians off the board. The Royals would extend the lead to 5-1 before scoring a pair in the ninth to go up 7-1. The Indians would make a small push but fall 7-3.

*The triple-a Omaha Storm Chasers finish the season at 75-67, but miss the playoffs.
The double-a NWA Naturals miss the playoffs also.

              Game three:
              WP: A. Civale (9-10)
              LP: B. Singer (10-11)

The story of this game was Aaron Civale, who threw a complete game one hit shutout, and walked zero. The only base runner for the Royals was a double by Seuly Matias in the sixth inning.

Brady Singer attempted to walk a tightrope, as he gave up 11 hits in just four innings, but until a three run HR off the bat of Franmil Reyes, he had gotten outs when he needed. Jakob Junis would pitch the last four innings scoreless but with one swing the Indians won 3-0.

The Royals will now go to Detroit for three games. They are currently one game ahead of the Angels for the second WC.

ROYALS PLAY FOURTH PLACE TIGERS AT RIGHT TIME
                Game one:
                WP: D. Duffy (8-9)
                LP: C. Mize (5-15)
                S: J. Staumont (33)

In the biggest series of the year this far, it was Seuly Matias kicking off the scoring with a two run HR off of Tigers pitcher Casey Mize.

Danny Duffy went six innings, and allowe one run. Nursing a 2-1 lead in the eighth, Soler hit a solo HR to extend the lead.

Staumont would shut the Tigers down late and the Royals took game one 3-1.

                Game two:
                WP: B. Keller (12-11)
                LP: S. Turnbull (4-11)
                S: J. Merryweather (1)

Facing Spencer Turnbull on the third, it was Salvador Perez connecting on a grand slam to give the Royals a 4-0 lead. The Royals would tack on more runs to jump ahead 7-0, but a pair of HRs from Willi Castro and Robbie Grossman would pull the Tigers within 7-5.

Julian Merryweather would settle things down for the Royals, pitching a scoreless 7th and 8th innings, and Carlos Santana would it a solo HR to give the Royals a three run lead. Joc Pederson would then hit a two run HR to put the Royals up 10-5.

Merryweather would stay in with a five run lead and retire the Tigers to end the game.

                Game three:
                WP: T. Skubal (7-6)
                LP: K. Bubic (9-11)
                S: D. Norris (29)

All the scoring was done early, as Kris Bubic allowed a HR to Schoop, and Ramos and Grossman drove in runs.

Tarik Skubal gave the Tigers a good outing, going six innings and allowing just one run. The Tigers bullpen was fantastic and the Tigers win 4-1.

*Asa Lacy has been activated off the IL and Jackson Kowar has been optioned.

The Royals are now 83-73, with a full two game lead over the Angels for the second WC spot with six to play.

Idk if this is a bug or what but the regression system in this game seems to be horrible . and I’m not even talking about old players its young players with A+ potential, Tatis Jr in his 3rd game of a season at age 22 has lost 13 points to power vs Righty that simply should not happen .

Cardinals sweep 4 game series against Rockies

The Cardinals (49-29) swept the Rockies in Colorado over the weekend in a 4 game series and have now won 6 straight.

Unlike the month of June and their slump, the Cards found ways to win a game this series. Pitching shutting door when offense struggled, bats picking up pitching, defense on display, key stolen bases/taking extra bases. It was a beautiful sight.

The Cards will now travel Cincinnati for a 3 game series with the Reds before an off day Thursday to travel to Chicago for a 3 game weekend series with the Cubs.

Cards place Alex Reyes on 60 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed closer Alex Reyes on the 60 day IL due to a broken forearm. Reyes took a line drive off the bat of Ryan McMahon in Friday nights game against the Rockies. The Cardinals don't expect Reyes back until sometime in September.

Reyes was tied atop the National League for saves with 27 and was perfect in save opportunities this year. Roberto Osuna will slide into the closer role.

The Cardinals have recalled Kodi Whitley from Memphis to fulfill the vacancy.

ROYALS TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS AT HOME
                        Game one:
                        WP: J. Staumont (7-5)
                        LP: J. Karinchak (3-6)

Aaron Civale was once against dominant, taking a 1-0 lead into the eight. Alaberto Mondesi would lead the inning off with a triple though to threaten the lead.

Civale clutched up and got both Carlos Santana and Salvador Perez to strike up, but Jorge Soler singled to tie the game.

The game would go to extras, and the Indians would start it off with a sac fly that moved the auto runner to third. With one out, Andres Gimenez would hit a sharp grounder to Nickly Lopez, who would come home with throw and nail the runner. Staumont would then get Jose Ramirez to ground out to end the half inning.

Jarrod Dyson would pinch run as the auto runner, but would be stuck at second until Carlos Santana grounded a pitch back up the middle and into the outfield to walk it off.

                        Game two:
                        WP: B. Singer (11-11)
                        LP: T. McKenzie (9-11)
                        S: J. Staumont (34)

The Indians plated a pair against Brady Singer in the top of the first, but the Royals would load the bases in the bottom of the third with no outs against Tristan McKenzie.

Salvador Perez grounded into what should have been a double play, but the throw from SS Owen Miller was over the first baseman’s head and out of play for a game tying ground rule double.

In the fourth, Seuly Matias hit a solo shot to put KC ahead, followed by an Alberto Mondesi two run HR.

Singer allowed a lead off HR to trim it to 5-3 in the sixth and his day was finished, Jakob Junis came into the game and worked a scoreless inning.

In the eight, the Indians would score a run off Junis to trim it to 5-4, headed to the ninth.

After giving up a single and a walk, Staumont would retire the Indians to end the game.

                        Game three:
                        WP: D. Duffy (9-9)
                        LP: S. Hentges (7-13)

The game would be scoreless into the fifth, as both Danny Duffy and Sam Hentges were dealing early. Eventually the Royals would work a pair of walks to load the bases for Viloria, who would double in three runs. He would score on a Santana single to knock Hentges out.

The Royals would put up three more runs against the Indians bullpen. Duffy would go seven scoreless innings, and Daniel Lynch would take it the rest of the way. The Royals win 7-0 and against the Tribe.

The Royals take a two game lead over the Angels in the WC with three to play. The Royals finish the regular season at home against the Twins.

Cubs and Angels strike a deal

                          Angels acquire:

LHP Andrew Chafin (7 holds 2.50 ERA)

                          Cubs acquire:

LH starter Andew Heaney (9-2 2.45 ERA)

This trade was a bit of a surprise as the Cubs traded the only LH reliever on their active roster and the Angels traded a starter whom is having a terrific season and the Angels are in a fight with the Astros for the AL West and currently lead the wildcard.

Andrew Heaney gives the Cubs a LH starter but adds money to their financials as Heaney is on a 3 year deal that will pay him $14.7M per year the next two years. But the Cubs are desperate to get back into the postseason and adding a starter of Heaney's quality is a big get. The Cubs are 9.5 out of the Central after hitting the skids and 8.5 out of the wildcard. So they are trying to strengthen their starting pitching to make another run as they at one time were within 5 games of both the NL Central and Wildcard.

Andrew Chafin gives the Angels a much needed left hander out of their pen. While trading away Heaney may upset the fan base due to the year he's having, let us not forget that the Angels biggest weakness is arguably their bullpen, especially left handers. And they have depth at starting pitching with Ohtani, Dylan Bundy, Griffin Canning, Aaron Slegars (leads AL in ERA) and Patrick Sandoval (LH). Plus this moves sheds payroll so they can go get another starter if they desire or they can add to their lineup as SS currently is a weak point as is depth.

Nevertheless, while it still seems a reach by the Angels or over payment, they addressed a need without really hurting the club, and now have more ammunition (money) to make another move if desired before the deadline.

Mets acquire Dinelson Lamet from the Padres

                          Mets acquire:

SP Dinelson Lamet (5-5 3.49 ERA)

                          Padres acquire:

RHP Dellin Bettances (5.92 ERA final year of contract)
C Francisco Alvarez (19 years old - #15 prospect in baseball - controllable thru 2028)

The Mets needed rotation help after sending Marcus Stroman to the Twins for 2B Luis Arraez back in June to shore up a lineup that was struggling after losing Francisco Lindor to a torn hamstring at the end of May. At the time it wasn't a huge deal as Stroman was struggling (he's turned it around in Minnesota) and the Mets had a strong rotation with Carlos Carrasco stepping in and pitching well with deGrom, Taijuan Walker, David Peterson, and Joey Lucchesi.

But the Mets just lost Carrasco until the end of August or early September due to a shoulder injury, so they needed help in the rotation. So they made the move to acquire Lamet who was decent in San Diego and who is controllable through next year. Bettances was struggling, so the biggest giveaway was Alvarez.

The Padres obtaining Alvarez is the big get here. The Padres are likely going to miss the playoffs as injuries have decimated this team. They just got Tatis back after his second stint on the IL and are still missing Blake Snell (out rest of season) and Mike Clevinger (out until Aug/Sept), so giving up a decent Lamet isn't that far off base considering Bettances is a free agent.

But Francisco Alvarez gives the Padres another top prospect at catcher along with Luis Campusano and Santis Sanchez. These 3 along with Austin Nola (Victor Caratini will likely be traded), gives the Padres the chance to go into 2023 with options at catcher and even an expendable player if needed to address another weakness.

The Padres are likely going to miss the postseason this year, but they are certainly built for a run at the postseason and years to come with players they have locked up and the ability to address needs via free agency and even trades this offseason.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

It was a Randy Arozarena solo HR to lead off the second off Daniel Lynch that started the scoring, but the Twins lead was short lived as Jarrod Dyson doubled in a pair in the bottom of the inning.

In the fifth, Trevor Larnach tied the game on a sac fly.

In the top of the ninth against Asa Lacy, it was once again Randy Arozarena hitting a solo HR to take a 3-2 lead for the Twins.

The Royals would go down in order and lose 3-2.

                            Game two:
                            WP: M. Shoemaker (5-8)
                            LP: K. Bubic (9-12)
                            S: T. Rogers (38)

The Twins gave Matt Shoemaker a 5-0 against Kris Bubic lead headed to the fourth, but a two out bases loaded triple by Hunter Dozier cut into the lead.

Jakob Junis would come in and give up a HR to Nelson Cruz, and leave due to injury.

The Royals lost the game 7-3, but thankfully Junis’ injury was minor.

*Despite the fact the Royals drop the first two games of the series, the Angels have also lost the first two of their series against the Mariners. The Royals have clinched the second WC and will be headed to either New York or Toronto (both teams are 91-70, competing for the AL East).

The Royals are going to play all reserves in game 162, and will decide between on the WC starter. It will be between Brad Keller and Mike Minor. Minor has been the best SP by far down the stretch, but playing a RH heavy lineup makes Keller a viable option.

                            Game three:
                            WP: J. Kowar (2-0)
                            LP: L. Maeda (15-11)

Jackson Kowar fought his command in the first, walking a pair and giving up hard contact, but the Twins only scored once on a Arozarena single.

In the third, the Royals tied the game on a Hanser Alberto single and claimed the lead on a Viloria RBI double. Seuly Matias would also drive in a run on a fielder’s choice.

The Royals would get two more Viloria RBIs and a couple more from Fox and they roll to a nice 8-1 win.

The Royals finish the season at 87-75, and await to see who they will play in the Wildcard round. The Yankees and Blue Jays finished tie atop the AL East, so will be playing a game 163 to see who is crowned division champs, and who has to settle for the wildcard.

*Blue Jays hit five HRs on the way to an 11-4 victory over the Yankees to win the division.

                              Wildcard game at Yankee Stadium:

In a very tough matchup for the Royals offense facing Yankee’s ace Gerrit Cole, the Royals caught an early break. On an 0-2 count to Alaberto Mondesi, Cole came too far inside and hit him. Mondesi would steal second on an Andrew Benintendi strikeout, then Carlos Santana would come up with a single to put the Royals up 1-0. Cole would then strikeout Salvy and get Soler to end the inning.

With one out in the third, it was once again Mondesi getting hit by a pitch. The Royals would not take advantage this time though, Benintendi and Santana would strike out to end the inning.

Mike Minor would walk Gary Sanchez to start the bottom of the third, and Clint Frazier would take a changeup and absolutely crush it to put the Yankees up 2-1.

Alaberto Mondesi would lead off the sixth, and the Royals still hadn’t recorded a hit since the Santana single in the first, but Mondesi would hit the ball to the shortstop and beat the throw to first. Benintendi would follow that up with a walk.

In a pivotal moment of the game, it was Gerrit Cole who came through. Carlos Santana struck out, Salvy popped up, and Soler grounded out and the Yankees escape up 2-1.

Mike Minor would complete the sixth, and his day was done. He would give up two runs on four hits.

The Yankees would also turn to the bullpen, bringing in LH pitcher Justin Wilson.

The Yankees would add a run in the seventh on a RBI double, and take a 3-1 lead into the eighth. The Yankees would turn to Aroldis Chapman, who would pitch a perfect inning.

The game would go to the top of the ninth, with the Royals needing two runs. They Yankees would insert Chad Green. Salvador Perez would draw a walk to start the inning, and just like that the tying run was at the plate.

Jorge Soler would strikeout, and so would Joc Pederson on a pitch in the dirt that Salvy advanced to second on. The Royals would pinch hit Meibrys Viloria, and he hit a bloop into the outfield, but Aaron Hicks made an unbelievably diving catch to rob him of a hit and RBI, while also ending the Royals season.

                              WP: G. Cole
                              LP: M. Minor
                              S: C. Green

It’s always sad and disappointing to lose in a one game playoff since it takes 162 to get there, but overall I’m proud of this team. We suffered injuries to many players we were counting on, and had to rely on several rookies who all had moments to build upon.

The Royals will begin planning for the offseason, where there are a number of question. Carlos Santana and Mike Minor both have one year left on their contracts, but both had great seasons and may be moved in the offseason as the Royals look to get more prospects up to the big leagues. This feels like a time to begin the development of several guys at the MLB level.

                              MLB playoffs:

The Yankees took the momentum from winning the WC and took it all the way to the World Series, where they lost to the Dodgers in six games.

How do you guys handle the trade deadline?

I'm at the All-Star break. Looking at the trade block, I know what moves I want to make. But most deadline deals go down around the 30th or 31st. A part of me wants to wait until then. A part of me wants to go ahead and make my moves the Thursday coming out of the break so I have my team set for the second half. And that way I get the guys I want.

BTW, the Rockies continue to infuriate their fan base in my dynasty. They traded German Marquez to the Yankees for a couple of decent prospects, but nothing special.
