Red Sox Make Flurry of Moves Over Past Few Days
Even though they've won 10 of their last 15 games, the Red Sox offense has struggled, and in trying to remedy that, they have made a number of moves over the last few days.
To start the week, the Red Sox selecting the contracts of infielder Travis Shaw and pitcher Daniel Gossett to replace pitcher Connor Seabold and infielder Christian Arroyo who were both optioned to Triple-A, but they too have since been outrighted back off the roster to Triple-A with Caleb Smith's acquisition replacing Gossett. Smith, by the way, threw a complete game in his Red Sox debut, giving up just one run on six hits while striking out nine.
The Red Sox announced the signed of infielder Pat Valaika to a big league deal, and to make room, optioned infielder Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A.
After a few wins, though rough offensive games, the Red Sox optioned infielder Ryan McMahon and outfielder Austin Slater to Triple-A while selecting the contract of utilityman Danny Santana, and recalling infielder Jonathan Arauz.
The biggest move for Boston was the injury of super utilityman Kike Hernandez who suffered a broken shin while sliding into third base in Toronto. Hernandez is expected to miss at least six weeks, and in the meantime, the Red Sox have recalled fellow utilityman Yairo Munoz.
Currently sitting at 82-31, the Red Sox will continue a three-game set against George Springer and the Blue Jays, who currently sit at an even 55-55.
