I made some adjustments by raising the black level and lowering the contrast on my TV; and then I compared various stadiums mentioned in this thread and compared it with a few FIFA stadiums. I now have both games looking very good on the same TV settings. With that said, The Show lighting in general seems a tad off on the PS5.

Re: Lighting - Too Dark?
That looks too dark.
Skylines, on the other hand, may want to be dark because they're outside of the stadium and aren't going to be captured very well because of the ambient light inside of the ballpark. Look at Pirates home games at night to see what I mean.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Lighting - Too Dark?
The more I play and see, the more I...just don’t know if it’s a bug or design choice.
I really like the darker crowd so part of me hopes design choice, but then you see the night lighting in some of the closed-roof stadiums or that many stadium elements (seen most recently here with the out of town boards in the KC pics) aren’t lit at all, and I’m thinking it’s a bug.
So now I’m just hoping they can fix the bugs while also leaving the darker crowds. I didn’t really notice how unnaturally bright everything in the stadium was in previous games until seeing the current lighting in 21.Last edited by SmashMan; 04-20-2021, 12:24 AM.Comment

Re: Lighting - Too Dark?
Same problen occurred with the switch to ps4 so definitely a bug in which the lighting engine is not working properly in some stadiums.
Hopefully they can patch this. Knowing the stadiums in stadium creator can only be used in daytime maybe they’re having some trouble with the lighting engine at night overal."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Re: Lighting - Too Dark?
I actually don’t have a problem with this. Yeah it looks quite dark but I think this is probably quite an accurate representation of how the baseball field and outfield looks from a hitters perspective.
The lights shining towards you are always gonna make objects under that light appear darker (such as the outfield fans and water falls in this example, being directly below the big flood lights).Comment

Re: Lighting - Too Dark?
Nevermind the lighting for a minute. Xbox player here, I haven't played The Show in years. But, my God do certain colors always look this off? The color palette seems to be a trainwreck. I'm a Pirates fan and almost can't even use them on the game (nevermind how awful they are). Why are they a dull yellow instead of vibrant gold? I noticed the Padres have the same problem. I remember Madden had the same problem for years, they could never seem to get the Steelers gold right. I'm playing in HDR and their colors aren't even close to right. And it's not my tv. The Steelers look perfect on Madden in HDR. The Penguins look perfect on NHL, obviously not HDR. Even the Pirates look perfectly fine on RBI 21 on my Switch in ugly 1080P. I can't believe that a "next gen" video game can't manage to display the color gold.Comment

Re: Lighting - Too Dark?
What's likely happening is they have the right "hex code" for the color, but their use of PBR (physically-based rendering, basically the type of material that is used and how lighting is affected by it) probably mutates the color in a way that makes it not the color we'd want it to appear as. I know this was always a problem for the walls in Chase Field for a time, and by all means it may still be.
Not so much of the pbr shaders, but the specular maps attached to them usually causes the colors to shift. Although that may very well have nothing to do with it in this game.YouTube: MLB The Show 21 Atlanta Braves FranchiseComment

Re: Lighting - Too Dark?
To me, it's the city backdrops. It's like there's a power outage in town. I've played in Cleveland and Chicago and it's the lack of lights outside the stadium that are jarring to me. I don't -- or barely -- see the buildings. After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!Comment
