Any way to turn off shifts?

I am one of those who absolutely hate the shift irl and would love to see it banned. Is there any way to turn them off in the game?

In the video game 99% of the time it is completely useless. A lot of times the shift creates base hits that would not be otherwise in the game. I just want straight up baseball in my franchise. Can I turn them off? Aggravating seeing singles given up cause the 2B is in right field looking stupid.

    No.

The rest of what I'm writing is just wasted time to increase character count in order to reply.

Yea, the auto shift needs to go.

Anyone else notice some teams the A.I. will deploy the shift less then other teams? As a Mets fan, in franchise mode the the defense rarely shifts; At least in '19 & somewhat '20.

If you’re batting no, in the field you can align your defense.

I'm with you on banning the shift, absoultely hate it too. maybe if someone consistently bunts and beats the shift every time it would finally go away. I'm looking at you Matt Carpenter!

Right?!?! Lol. Lefty hitters anyway should bunt against the shift. They could walk to first!

You can't prevent the shift from happening against you, but you can set your own team's defences. While pitching, press the direction on the d-pad (I think it's down, idk it's all muscle memory for me) to bring up the quick shift menu. Then press triangle to bring up the full shift menu.

Set your shift strategy. Shift strategies can set to last all game, however shifts include things like playing at double play depth and having the 3rd baseman cover the drag bunt, so I'd be wary about doing that.

I'm the opposite of you, I use the shift all the time, I just don't usually agree with the CPU's shift strategy, especially since they only use the extreme shift and will literally never use the slight shift. I usually set my shift per batter, and I've just gotten into the habit of pressing all of the buttons I need quickly.

I desperately wish I could set the CPUs shift as well. I've tried switching over to controlling them, setting the shift, and then switching back, however the shift resets to their dumb ideas the moment you give up control.

Yeah, the shift, at least this year seems to be killing Matt Carpenter, which I guess in retrospect means the shift works.

Just 13 games into the St. Louis Cardinals’ season, Matt Carpenter is slashing .080/.226/.200/.426 with a wRC+ of 21. The left handed hitter also has just two hits in 13 games this season. However, this is mostly due to bad luck as Matt Carpenter has been crushing the ball so far this season. In fact, he is in the 99th percentile in hard hit rate (66.7%), the 100th percentile in barrel rate (27.8%), and the 96th percentile in average exit velocity (95.2 mph). Thus, even though Carpenter has just two hits on the season, there is not much else that he can do. He is hitting the ball hard, but he is simply hitting it right at defenders. This bad luck is shown by his .059 BABIP and the 232 point gap between his wOBA and his xwOBA (.193 wOBA, .425 xwOBA).

Re: Any way to turn off shifts?

The game already shifts the outfield by default, shallow and favoring the lines. This has been in the game for over 15 years.

On a more relevant note, and I'm not blaming the development team at all here, but there are a lot of extreme infield shifts in one direction and outfield shifts in the other direction because of the nature of physics and how certain players can tend to hit ground balls one way versus fly balls the other way. The game does not reflect these kinds of shifts, and anything that is extreme pull for the infield also takes the outfield in that same direction (which is what some teams will do as well). I show a bunch of those examples here (in my video about restricting shifts in the MLB).

Re: Any way to turn off shifts?

The CPU constantly shifts with no men on base when Greg Bird, Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Nolan Arenado are at the dish (in my Year 5 Yankees franchise).

Greg Bird leads the AL in doubles thanks to this.

I just beat that shift....more often than not. But they keep doing it LOL.

                    So be it.

But yeah....I would like the CPU shifts to be more dynamic in terms of seeing it is not working so figure it out. But AI improvements like this a looooooong shot.

Mike Moustakas also... I have drilled the ball and it seems to always find a fielder in the shift... Even when I swing late, it seems to find the only fielder on the left hand side... And you can't bunt, the pitcher will field it every time and throw a laser to first with pinpoint precision no matter how low you have the fielders throwing speed...
If you keep bowing down and praising the developers, (NHL series) nothing they give us the consumer will ever be a "finished" product. Take a stand, it is your money!!!.

There is a defensive shift bug that's been in the game for a few years now when you play RTTS 2B and/or SS and I am wondering if it was fixed in MLBTS 21. An example is if you are the SS and the infield is supposed to shift left (ie: the SS should not be directly behind the 2B bag but the game does not auto shift the SS even when you enable the auto-shift feature) and you are now out of position because your player does not move from their original SS alignment and in most cases will not be able to field the ball. Fixed?
