    Ratings only going down?

I'm in my 1st year of franchise and no player in the leauges ratings are going up, only down.

    Anyone else experience this?

It's been a thing for years. I have no idea why they feel is necessary. The regression system in this game is awful.

If their attributes are only -1, I wouldn't worry. That's pretty standard.

Do they eventually start to progress again at some point?

Depends on the player, but usually they'll at least recover. Usually takes about a month or so.

How do you guys handle older players dropping dramatically over the course of the season? In my Cards franchise, Yadi has gone down 6 points in every attribute category, and I’m not even into June yet. I know he’s old, and I expect regression for a 38 year old catcher, but he is going to be unplayable by September.

I've always just dealt with it. I don't agree with the system and think it is absolutely terrible and needs a rework and needs it yesterday, but both the CPU and myself suffer from the same terrible progression and regression so I just let the game do its thing and live with it.

In cases like that, I reverse most of the regression. Nelson Cruz is another guy that typically gets hit hard (I haven’t been in franchise yet this year to see how bad he gets hit). It’s completely unrealistic and it happens regardless of performance.

Hmm I finally started my franchise after I got my DD team going so this isn't promising to hear, sounds like what 2k had with their MyNBA league but they patched it months later, maybe SDS can?

So a guy like Dustin May, a 78 ovr and 23 yrs old, A potential, is going to be losing overall points the first few years and not gaining any?

It all eventually ends up a huge mess..

Just a few seasons in and you'll see that all MLB roster players are rated 80+, and then in about 10 years AAA is full of slowly regressing 35-40 year olds.

Any long term franchise is unplayable without yearly massive editing of the draft class, and aging players - set potential to 0 so they retire instead of watching Mike Trout finish his career hitting 8th in the order for a AAA team for 4 years.

Nope, he'll be -1 in a few categories in the first month, and then grow very fast.

                    He'll be 90+ in about 3 years

Is it the case for all players? What I mean by that is that comparing the progression (or actually, regression in this case) of in-game players against their-real life counterpart may produce biased expectations, as we expect the in-game player to perform close to his real-life counterpart throughout the season. I am not saying the model isn't broken, I'm just trying to understand if it's just a matter of expectations based on the real player. If any players Cruz's age regress in the same manner, including Cruz, the model is working as intended. Doesn't mean it makes sense. A player's performance should be taken into account.

                        Re: Ratings only going down?

So without going into the nuances and annoyances of progression, regression, and potential because everyone around here knows I can I will address a couple of quick things.

Typically players progress/regress once a month. This is a rule of thumb and no where near absolute. Usually you see negative ratings at the start of the season because of spring training being simmed or played and since players rotate through the lineup, they have less stats and therefore look like they are playing poorly. Adjust back to original as you want.

If a player is having a good year but they are regressing in ratings, I will adjust their ratings some but since it is a uniform thing across the board, I am fair about it if I do and not just for my players.

Young players will grow more than regress but can still regress in certain attributes but will grow overall more than they regress.

Performance does have a big impact on progression and regression but after 35, it is typically just regression no matter what.

Also any player sitting on free agency for a year will regress 3 overall in most attributes per season. This appears to be the game simulating them falling out of peak playing condition and as a way to keep some balance on the rosters. It's annoying.

I can go on but the above should answer the original inquiry without droning on.

The only thing I would question here is how you define “hit hard.” I’m coming out of carryover save where he still had a very big bat, like 50s contact and at least 70s power maybe 80s. That might seem like he feel off cliff to some people, but 50s contact and 70s power would have still made him the best power hitter in my lineup.

A lot of you guys haven’t spent the last five years playing with the Tigers and their farm system and it shows lol. I’m over here contemplating starting Daz Cameron and his whopping 46 PWR in RF and Akil Baddoo in LF with his 30s power. Year-3, 43 year old Nelson Cruz with 66 PWR or something is totally legit.
                          Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

I try to play the game the way I would handle things IRL. If it is a veteran like Yadi in the final year of a great career I would keep him on the team and resist the temptation to trade him and unload salary and then allow him to make a choice in the off season of whether to retire.
