Re: WAY too many relief innings/appearances when simming seasons

Pitching stamina sliders are too low, and this triggers the bullpen protection logic too often. CPU will continually bring in the same guys in order to "protect" the rest of their bullpen, even to the point where they will literally never use what they are protecting.

It's not as effective in simmed games as it is in played ones, but playing 8 starting stamina, 8 relief stamina, and 4 CPU manager hook will show improvement across the board.

Don't worry, the stamina slider only has a small impact on how many total pitches a pitcher can potentially throw before running out of energy in a game. It has a much larger impact on when a pitcher starts to tire though, which is all the CPU cares about.

It's not perfect, especially for simmed games, but you will see improvement.

This is all lifted from 20. I don't have 21.

I have had the same issues. I’ve adjusted stamina’s, hook. Edited each pitchers stamina. Same thing. Always someone with higher numbers of games and someone who barely reaches 20 games (usually the 2nd SU pitcher) why doesn’t the cpu use the 2nd SU more to balance it out but nope. I always try to avoid 2 LRP cause the takes over the innings. I’ve had LRP pitch 150-200 IP which is way too much. Which is why I’m not happy there’s no more season mode and the locked 26 man.. it was so much easier for the testing. But it is what it is [emoji2369]

It’s the game using the same relievers over and over again. I had one season (a test franchise I did before FM dropped) where my two set up relievers pitched 16 and 18 innings. It happens in played games in franchise as well. The CPU is very reluctant to give the relievers the hook unless their getting tattooed. The twins used the closet for 3 innings against me in one game even though his stamina was completely depleted. In all fairness he was shutting me down the entire time

A little outside the box, but hear me out. Are you 1000% sure this isn’t just where baseball is headed? You’re annoyed because the numbers aren’t traditional now, but who’s to say in a decade or two we won’t be seeing this?

I only bring it up because I went through this with NCAA and really football in general: whining about how deep into Dynasty mode Baylor would overtake Texas and how that would never, ever happen, and how teams were always throwing and not running to set up the pass ...... etc.
Uhhhhhh ....... all that totally happened and more.

So switch to baseball. Guys on these very forums currently complaining about K and HR rates being unrealistic or something, while the real league is following the exact same trends. BA is at record lows. It’s all K’s, walks and homers. If this keeps up for any length of time we would expect to see more guys 4A type starters filling LRP type rolls and for those guys to get used more often going forward.

Tldr; I guess I’m saying don’t forget to let the sim be a sim. It’s not gonna mirror the last 20-40 years exactly why would it? In fact we should expect variance in the way each sim ebbs and flows.

          Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

I get what you're saying and you could be correct with seeing MRPs slowly fading out over time. Especially with the now 3 batter rule we have. However, when the game is tied 2-2 headed to the 9th inning BOTH teams will put in their closing pitcher if rested enough. Meanwhile the video game will keep the same LRP they've had in since the 6th inning no matter their stamina or any other factor.

You're telling me the closing pitcher role will go away one day? I don't see that ever happening. It takes a certain type of mentality to pitch these pressure innings, particularly the 8th and 9th innings. In the video game I think this is shown by their pitching clutch attribute.
