It depends on you as a user and how you're batting, really.

Personally, I always use button inputs, and I find hitting pitches in the top six of the nine zones to be far easier. Personally, I can't hit pitches on the lower outside zone at all, and if I connect its either a foul ball or a dribbler.

I look for fastballs high and those seem to be when I do the most damage as far as extra-base hits.
I look for off-speed/breaking pitches low, and while I can hit them, it feels like I just don't get that solid contact to drive them for power. those seem to be where my bloops that fall in between the infielders & outfielders come from.

I need to start examining & charting my at-bats from the batting analysis stuff in-game after the game is over, maybe that would confirm (or debunk) what I feel like is happening

I'm actually starting to take into account each players hot zones. I'm a below average hitter to say the least and while I try to lay off anything low in the zone, breaking pitches always get me as they start high obviously but I end up swinging right over tip of them as they end up way outta the zone. That said, I use directional hitting and I'm now trying to aim the at the direction of the players hottest zone to see if i get any kind of boost trying to make contact in said hot zone.

Since I was made aware of how important hot zones are (it took me long enough), I'm focusing on ONLY players that have ones that match my strengths. And trading away or demoting players that don't match up with what I can do. In about a month of games played since I made that adjustment, the results have been really good.

Could you give an example on what you mean and what hitting interface do you use?

It really just depends. I, on the other hand, put the PCI in the bottom 1/3rd of the zone. If I have to move lower, I've (mainly) trained myself that this means "no". So I'm actually looking for low pitches. I lay off high fastballs (sometimes, then again sometimes I chase) but look for mistake breakers in the middle to top thirds. I hit well enough.

The biggest lesson I have learned is pick a strategy and especially early in the count try not to deviate. If you're looking high, don't chase unless it's what you want. Same for low. Just be consistent and the hits come. Realize you can't hit everything. Its better to be down 0-1, for example, than it is to weakly ground to 2nd.

Im using the Rays in franchise and well depending on the roster my best hitter, we'll their best hitter in real life Randy Arozarena has all blues and while I can't demote him or bench him for a guy with some Reds, I do try to look at one area of the zone for him and make that his defacto hot zone.

It doesn't always work out this way lol but generally I try to look up out over the plate with less than 2 strikes and protect with 2 strikes long enough to get a mistake.

Until recently, I didn't know how important the hot and cold zones were for your batters. Basically, the nine squares can vary from dark blue to dark red based on how well a player will hit the ball in that section. Knowing that, I've decided to only go with players that hit the ball well in the areas where I as a gamer can see the ball coming and swing properly. For me, that's the top half of the zone, basically.

As for input, I just hit X to swing at the right time. I don't do anything more complicated with the L or R sticks. I don't try to hit for extra power or give it a direction, just pure timing.

Using directional interface you can select the direction of all 9 zones. Up and left, straight left, down and left, etc....
