Thanks for all of your advice .. mostly.
I'll try turning off guess pitch for a series or two.

I mean I have 3 players on the roster hitting above .300. But in the spots it matters most I can get the clutch hit. Maybe my Mets are just bad. 😂

It's easy to get too aggressive with runners on. I'm plenty guilty of that myself. Be patient and try working the count more, the game rewards you more IMO for getting ahead in the count.

        1. Turn off guess pitch. If you guess “correctly” with regards to the pitch that is coming, you have “guess pitched” all by yourself. If you want to sit on an inside fastball, get ready for it, swing early and crush it. There. You guess pitched.

        2. Try something for me, and report back afterwards. Play the entire game and just use the contact swing button to swing. The whole game. Something interesting happened this year, and if you use the contact swing but have perfect timing, you’ll reap big rewards. As in, homerun distance with contact swings. But, in real life, there are many occasions where you are just trying to make contact and move a runner and you take a nice easy swing and the ball goes out.
Try an entire game using just contact swings and the variety and amount of solid hits you’ll see is amazing.

        Good luck.

In the PS5 game the CPU WILL throw a ton of balls out of the zone. You can really draw walks. I have ump on PERFECT calls as I have my hands full with reading pitches and don’t need a rogue ump to call me out on pitches that are balls.

I play ump variable first 2 innings (to simulate an ump settling in), mlb average 3rd & 4th inning (umpire growing comfortable with himself), 5th inning on I go to perfect

but I swear the Studio must've hired a former ump to code the perfect calls because plenty times I should be getting calls I know I'm not getting even when set on perfect. I probably get hosed as much the last half a game as I do the first half. I know the replay will show it as borderline strike/ball but sometimes it sure don't feel that way in real-time lol

I play on perfect and the umps just don't like me. CPU throws pitches on the corner on the black... strike. I throw it there... ball.

Re: This years game drives me insane

Regarding the scripted thing, this year more than any other year solidly hit balls go right to fielders far too often. Plus PP hits are outs way more then they were last year, not even close.

I know what the OP means.

I wonder if competitive or simulation settings alter this at all...?

If the ball is 50% on the black or less, it will be a strike. It's it's 51% or greater, it will be a ball. If you're playing with perfect umps, balls and strikes will always be called like that, both for you and the AI. I've been using it for years and have never seen an exception.

If you did (and if it was that widespread), there would be riots on the competitive side considering that's the setting those games use.

I know that's not the official description of the real life zone, but I also believe that the zone depicted in The Show includes more space on the outer edges than the rulebook one does (extending to an area beyond the in-game plate's dimensions - it can be easily seen from Strike Zone 2 or 3). So 50% of that is probably pretty close to the rulebook definition.

Use Directional hitting. You'll hit better I can promise you that. Go to slider forum and find a set with the settings you use. Or challenge yourself with something completely different from your style of play and difficulty settings.

I certainly don’t think the game is scripted, but something does seem a little off to me this year. I’ve played this game every year on Hall of Fame since 07 or 08 and have always found it enjoyable. This year I’m still making good contact with good timing, but 9 times out of 10 it’s a line out. Even my perfect/perfect swings are outs 2/3 times. I’m thinking maybe I should switch to dynamic difficulty?
