DH is coming in 2022…but will it be in Show 22?

Everyone knows the DH is coming to MLB for both leagues in 2022. It’s the worst kept secret in baseball. With that being said will MLB show add it to the game for the NL in time for next years game?

One would think if it’s in real life it’s a lock to come to the game next year but color me a little skeptical. They have had the chance to add it as an option for exhibition mode in the past and never did. Do you think we may be waiting until 2023 or later for them to add it to the game?

The only way they won't match what the league is doing for rules is if it isn't finalized until too late in the development cycle.

Isn't full DH already an option anyways though?

For exhibition mode, I would say that if its the rule that the DH is universal then it will be represented in the game next year.


As for franchise mode, its always been an option to have it in both leagues, neither league, or as the rule stands today, and I expect that to continue to be the case going forward.

Very good chance the new CBA isn’t signed until January or later. The question is will that be too late in the development cycle? The easy solution would be for them to add a DH option for exhibition mode in the options. They should have done that years ago though and just ignored it.

Your question has literally zero hard parameters, even a developer couldn't give you a firm answer even if they wanted to.

Based on the fact that it's already in the game, the answer is most likely yes but even the assumption that a new CBA is going to be signed is a massive leap.

Do you think that happens even if the new CBA is signed say in late January? I know that’s pretty late in the games development cycle.

I think there's a chance that if the CBA isn't agreed to until closer to Spring Training (or later; a work stoppage seems very possible), the DH won't start until 2023 (being a that it isn't really fair to make such a significant rule change after teams have already mostly set their rosters for the year).

They already lost to much money during covid season. Dont see a stoppage on the horizon. Sides have already been together trying to reach a resolution. ''


Also to OP, DH is a bargaining chip for the players side. So not a guarantee it will happen anyways.

You are right about the first part and sort of wrong about the second part.

No chance of a work stoppage after 2020 losses. Both sides have no choice but get a deal done.

Yes the DH is a bargaining chip but there’s literally 0 chance it’s not in the new CBA. Both sides want it and it can’t be delayed until the next CBA. It’s been a lock for some time now.
