Franchise Mode Trade Frequency
Has anyone experimented with the trade frequency settings in franchise mode to see if it resulted in any positive changes? It seems like teams often trade away key players, so I’m wondering if turning trade frequency all the way down might help keep good teams together longer.Tags: None -

At default, there are a few too many trades prior to July (but it's tolerable)...but then in July, they spike like crazy...upwards of 25-30 trades. Dropping the frequency value down to 3 does stifle that a fair bit.
However, there IS a big downside of lowering it (even down to 3)....teams are less likely to trade away redundant assets. What this basically does is cause a bunch of middle-tier guys to stagnate in the minors. As a consequence, you get a glut of mid/high 70s overall guys in AAA, low 70s in AA and prospects do not develop. Basically, if you want to go beyond 3-5 seasons in a franchise, even dropping it down to 3 is too much - you'll kill your franchise flow.
Probably the best option is to set the frequency around 3 until the All Star Game and then ramp it to 4 at the ASG and keep it there until the next spring training. I strongly advise single team control as well, which will force you to play things straight and not meddle...embrace the storylines!
(Also, a realistically-balanced roster potential-wise is helpful - I recommend Bacon's fictional for best results)Play the games you love, not the games you want to love. -
Re: Franchise Mode Trade Frequency
I typically use 4 for the off-season. I use 3 for spring training to all star break. Then 5 from the break to trade deadline.
I have found that going over 5 messes up the trade engine. More so this version than in years past.
I also use a highly edited roster and sim years into the future and edit draft classes. So I keep my league highly controlled when it comes to overalls and potentials.
Rosters play a huge part in this engine. The full minors roster is a good base roster but is very unbalanced. Prospect ages being wrong from SDS do not help either. Both of these issues lead to a lot of balancing trades in year one.
I have found good balance with trades using the above numbers. You don't see huge amounts of top prospects move but you get a decent amount of trades.
It is all about what each of us considers sim or realistic as there is no universal definition to those words.Funkycorm

Franchise Mode Trade Frequency
I keep it at 5 (default) until the Monday after the all star game and then move it to 7
On July 28th it goes to 8 then 10(maxed) on trade deadline of July 31st. After trade deadline it goes back to 5 (default) until next year.
Been doing it this way a few years and am happy with the results including the 2 seasons played thus far in 21

Re: Franchise Mode Trade Frequency
I also have 3 as the default and slowly ramp up towards the deadline.
I also can't handle 32 team control but I do play with force trades on so that I can supplement the CPU trades. I check in on CPU teams from time to time and trade people that it makes sense to trade for them.
I trade the player to my team first for a D prospect, then trade the player onto their new team for the actual return. Then I trade the actual return on to the first team for my original D prospect.
By doing it that way, the CPU still controls all 31 other teams, but you can step in and make realistic trade decisions for them from time to time.Comment
