Re: Better gameplay, 21 or 20?
I pretty much played 20 for 2 entire years (no other game may not beat that record on my hours played lol)
I have only had 21 for a couple of months. the biggest change with 20 to 21 was the check swing, which I HATED at first that it was all relying on the user not the players rating but my opinion is changing on that check swings are more 50 50 now. where as before 99% of the time they were called a ball, so I actually think that is a good thing.
I am enjoying 21 it plays smoother then 20 on PS5 what held me back was the Y2Y saves not being in and importing previous rosters along with the delayed release. but now it is the game I am staying with and have retired 20 -

You are going to get mixed answers here. There are those, me included, that think 20 on the PS4 or 5 is better. You will also have those that think 21 is better.
There is no overall right or wrong answer here. Everyone will have their own opinion and none of those are wrong. That's the big thing here.
I think 20 is better because it feels better hitting and pitching wise on the field. Where 21 is not a bad game by any means and has some nice fielding improvements, but 20, especially on the PS5 just feels much better to me. Something feels off to me as a whole with gameplay when it comes to 21 so it gives 20 that edge here.
I won't dive into it since you mentioned gameplay only, but off the field, 20 is much better in my opinion. Not even close here.
Overall, you can't go wrong with one or the other, but if it were me, my choice would be buying the PS4 version of 20 and playing it on the PS5.Funkycorm

Re: Better gameplay, 21 or 20?
Thanks for the feedback. Being it seems that they are very close, I think what I'm going to do is get both. I can get 20 for pretty cheap, and 21 for like $25 on PS5. This is a great time to buy games anyway, lots of discounts.

Re: Better gameplay, 21 or 20?
It’s ‘21 for me.
The changes to fielding, including new animations, make fielding more smooth and pure.
Both games are terrific so you can’t go wrong either way and picking up both is even better.

There is a massive and impressive amount of roster content for MLB 20 (MLB 21 has some but not nearly what you will find on 20). Make sure if you love classic roster baseball....you check out all the content (which can be found on the Classic Roster thread in the roster sub forum). Also there is a tremendous roster for MLB 20 that is the opening day 21 roster called the 1000 hours roster (Opening Day) from Brinskie. It is a completely re-rated roster that honestly....blows away the stock SDS rosters. Really well done. Also Bacons legendary Fictional Roster (which was redone on 21 as well) on 20 is a true gem if you like a fictional world. the 21 version is also pretty amazing. But unfortunately (and no fault of Bacon) it does not have the career stats which make the one on 20 quite unique.
Enjoy the games.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 11-25-2021, 05:04 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

I have been looking in the vault and sadly nothing compares to what 20 is in there. As someone who is trying to do a off season roster I bet I could find more CAP that I need in 20 then 21!! for 22. that and career stats can't be moved forward from older games.Comment

Re: Better gameplay, 21 or 20?
Lol The guy asked about "gameplay" and of course y2y saves would come up somehow.
Gameplay is WAY better on 21, ps5. Not even close IMO.Comment

Re: Better gameplay, 21 or 20?
Well that actually can be apart of gameplay believe it or not ratings and rosters matter in gameplay. More choice = better gameplay yes it’s your opinion to say 21 is better but the way you came across just then was yours was the only one that mattersComment

Re: Better gameplay, 21 or 20?
Okay, I was able to play both today. These are early impressions, but the gameplay seems almost identical. I'm sure there are subtle changes under the hood with 21, but right now they play very similarly. There are obviously more features in this year's game. But I'm mostly focused on gameplay. I might play a season with a legends roster for 20, and play the current on 21. But 'm happy I bought both.

Wise choice. If you want a fantastic legends roster for 20:
BostonRob75 (PSN) Top 50 All-Time Roster is simply incredible.
He also has some tremendous era specific rosters for:
1960’s
1970’s
1980’s
1990’s
All of those are very good.
Also there is a incredible Strat-O-Matic 1980’s roster which is ideal for a fantasy draft franchise if you’re into that sort of thing.
Have fun.

Re: Better gameplay, 21 or 20?
20 & 21 are 95% the same game on ps4 imo; 21 is about 10% better on PS5 as a base experience compared to any ps4 version. 22 will be the first true “next gen” MLBTS game. I ended up deleting 21 and I’m just gonna wait for 22.Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.Comment

They're very similar but '21 has pinpoint pitching, which is easily the best interface imo.Comment
