    Negative Budget

Does having a negative budget/end of year deficit actually impact anything in Franchise? I'm set to make a loss of $16m this year. Will it reduce my budget next year or anything?

There are things that I can do address this but do I actually need to?

It will have a huge impact. It will make it much harder to sign/resign players. Think of it as like Madden and being over the salary cap. Though there is none in baseball.

You will still have money to spend but it is going to be a lot less than you normally could.

In 21, you can not add franchise budget via stubs in the last week of the regular season so you have to have the most optimized sponsorships possible and free up some salary if early enough in the season.

If you are playing 20 or prior, but franchise budget using stubs before the end of the regular season to correct your budget deficit.

A lot of that money will be off the books next season though. Surely I can operate at a loss this year and still have money to sign/resign players next year? My current payroll for next year is only $103m and I have like a $225m budget.

NFL teams can't go over the cap but will often be right up against the cap during the season. They still have money the following year because of expiring deals.

I'm still struggling to understand the impact.

Is your current payroll for next year only $103m with a full roster of players signed? It won't include anyone not signed next year. E.g. your farm system.

        What team are you using?

Your extra budget money is converted into available payroll for next season. If you have a negative balance at season's end, you will not be able to sign or resign players. Or have significantly less and lose key players you thought you could resign to free agency.

As an example of this, if you have a negative budget balance after the draft, you have not been able to sign your picks in the past because you have no budget to spend.

Make a copy of the file and quick sim till the offseason and see what happens.

          Ah ok, this makes sense.

Think I'll try to shift a bad contract by attaching a prospect in that case.

          Thanks a lot!
