Also, we did a video on this topic (it feels like a pretty obvious choice this year), which I will slap into the first post here today.

Not expecting it to happen just shared who I'd personally like to see.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I’d put my money on Ohtani.

Great player year after year also seems like a super nice human being!!

Hate saying that as a Phillies fan but got to speak the truth!

Don't care and will never care who's on the cover of any game. So superficial. The gameplay matters to me as well as year-to-year roster saves. Bring it back!

yeah, at the end of the day it doesn't matter, and even when Bryce Harper (and even Josh Donaldson - RTR!! )those were first day purchases for me. but I do appreciate the effort the Studio puts in trying selecting a great representative. and 21 was a grand slam dunk in picking Tatis. and it would really say a lot if Ohtani did accept an offer from the Studio, especially when they never could pique Trouts interest.
but even after saying all that, I'd find a simple cover like just an old glove, and bat and ball, maybe laying on home plate, that would be just fantastic. or if each year the cover was a team picture of the reining WS champ

Yea I've never truly cared about a cover athlete. Griffey was really cool. Only one that I really detested was Dustin Pedroia. Thought about ripping that one up lol

I'm a homer I just want one of my guys from my favorite team to be on the cover. We got so close with Harper but he hit free agency that year and went to Philly.

With digital sales climbing every year does a cover really make much difference anymore?

Is there any data on whether the cover actually positively or negatively affects sales?

If anything, cover athletes only help me distinguish what year any certain iteration of The Show was released.

I think ones that go to specific markets are a logical and smart way forward with digital being how it is, but you still need a "cover athlete" for branding purposes even with the digital takeover. Plus, it's a fun and harmless thing to discuss since really it's just a stand-in for talking about real baseball and who you think is the "it" player at the moment.
