Do you employ the shift? If so, how?
I've been playing the game for years now and have always left shifting on Auto, but today, I decided to start doing it manually. I realize this can be cumbersome, but I find it interesting trying new strategies depending on whom I have on the mound. For example, the game Auto shifts to the pull side for Anthony Rizzo. Today, I played a shift to the opposite field and peppered the outside corner with fastballs. Sure enough, Rizzo hit one right to the shifted SS.

I manually shift. There are times, more often then not, that I disagree with the shift the AI puts on.

Re: Do you employ the shift? If so, how?
I use the slight shift all the time. I also usually send the outfielder on the pull side deeper against most players with respectively but not amazing power. For high power hitters I go pull and CF deep, sometimes all (player depending).
I very rarely do the full shift or shift the OF. My threshold is 20%. If a hitters chart shows them hitting 20% or less to a field, I'll do a hard shift, usually with outfield included. I'm in the year 2023 of a 2014 carry over, so those charts are accurate to in game results. Above 20 I do a slight shift as long as there is a clear tendency towards a certain field.
Following this system, most of the hits that get through on the ground are hit hard or just unlucky. Key thing to remember: you're never going to be able to predict exactly where the ball is going to go. It's about using the odds to close gaps. Sure, some balls make it through the gap between 2B and SS when in a straight up defense the SS would have been able to get the out, but over the long run, the shift will get more outs against that particular player than a straight defense would. Always fear positivity bias.
Positivity bias is when one or few positive results cause a person to favour a flawed strategy. I see a LOT of it in one of my games of choice: Overwatch.

Re: Do you employ the shift? If so, how?
I manually employ the shift according to the hit chart % that's inright.
It's easy to employ the shift for a lefty batter who hits over 40% to the ride side. I employ the extreme right shift, 1B(guard line),3B(double ply), OF shift right & LF(straight up). Vice-versa against a righty.
No matter which way you employ your shift pitch to the shift!

I set to auto, but I frequently override it. I put a slight shift on most of the time in the infield and do extreme shift more often than auto does it. Generally, I leave the outfield on auto.
Including with runners on base, though I tend to move guys individually at that point. Since auto doesn't realize you can play double play depth in other shifts.
