Most here know my feelings on 21 and how I prefer the gameplay in 20.

I played a game on 22 playing as Atlanta. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by the gameplay. It felt closer to 20 than it did to 21. Obviously a tiny sample size, but it was less home run or bust in this game, though I did get a solo shot from Albies. Outfielders move a bit too fast still and need their speed lowered by sliders.

The check swings seemed to be a bit better than they were in 21.

There is still some random ball bobbling on easy ground balls then the usual recovery to either make the out or result in a hit instead of an error. This happened 3 times in the game for me.

Yankee Stadium's scoreboard seemed glitched. The bio for players seemed to be pasted daigonally over the scoreboard. Maybe it is meant to be that way. Playing as an AL central team I don't play much at Yankee Stadium.

I am going to play another game tonight but after that Horizon Forbidden West comes out and well that takes priority.

Better than 21? To me, I would say a little better.

    Better than 20? Nope.

Overall? It is still not enough to convince me to move on from 20. They need to make some serious upgrades to franchise (they won't, this is just my need). The gameplay is a bit better than 21 but 20 still feels better.

Summed up my thoughts as well. I have played two full games and what stood out to me was a better balance with check swings, obviously the fielding is better than 20 overall. And the crowd audio was impressive.

Enough to move the needle for me to leave 20?

    No.

Is it a upgrade from 21? Oh most definitely. But it is not enough of an upgrade from 20 for me to leave behind my long running franchises, roster content and SOTS.

I can’t personally speak to it since I don’t use the type of throwing you get perfects on, but I did see somewhere, either the Show forums or Reddit, where someone mentioned getting a perfect throw to 3rd base.

I downloaded the test for PS5 and did not see the option to play an exhibition game.

        What am I missing?

There’s no option to pick an exhibition game right now. But you can play a Braves vs Astros game if you go into Options Explorer and press start instead of going into the different options.

Braves are the home team and they don't have a DH or an option to use the DH.

Not a good look for Sony.

How is this not a good look? I'm just curious. Braves are a national league team and last year they still had no DH. Is the MLB using a universal DH this year or is that still undecided?

After playing a couple of games, I really like how the crowd sounds and interacts. The random claps, ambient noise, random people standing to clap, etc. makes the atmosphere a lot more enjoyable. I hope these crowd upgrades really shine during the playoffs with every thing amped up a bit.

It’s been decided in the CBA negotiations, but it’s not official until that’s completed, so it’s not really a big deal how the game is handling it right now.

If the option is added once the CBA is officially agreed to then you’re right. If they just completely ignore it until MLB 23 then it’s a really bad look.

Given that Universal DH is not official yet since there is not a new CBA in place yet and this is not a completed version of the game, I would say this does nothing to change my impression of Sony.

No worries at all man. You’re 100% right. This is a BETA version of the game and it’s not fair to judge until the final product drops.

All I’m saying is when CBA gets done and includes a universal DH it needs to be in the game or else it’s an epic failure by Sony. We have known for years the Universal DH was coming in this CBA. Sony has had years to prepare for this addition. Ignoring it until MLB 23 would not only be lazy but a slap in the face to the people who buy this game every year.

I don't really have a ton of gameplay impressions, as I have mostly just been messing around in custom practice looking for new batting stances/pitching windups.

Like usual the stances/motions they have updated are solid improvements over their previous versions. I feel like they finally nailed Trout's stance after years of something being just a bit off about it. A lot of the new stances also look like they should be easier to tweak in the Stance Creator as well. There are still a few guys who could use an update but overall a solid job as usual in the animation department. (Fingers crossed that Rizzo got one...since he is a FA so not able to use in practice mode...I'll try to hunt down his card in DD to check) I also noticed a few new swing follow through animations, as well as a couple fielding ones.
