What benefit would this be to Sony. So they are just going to hope they make all their money off of the Switch and hope for a lot of micro transaction money. This seems unlikely.

Sony aim really is they get more subs 'renting' their games making more profit out of the retro games. more subs = more profit they are getting people to rent old games that nobody would buy right now outright unless it is on Ebay

and still sell new games full price. that is the aim here. there are a lot of old PS2 games and PS1 games out there people want to go back and play.. they would sell me on it then having to get my old ps2 out. problem is I need to see what that library is of old games. if it just what they have in the store now I am not interested.

So it would equal what’s happening on Xbox ???

Sony isn’t doing day and date releases for their first party games. I would not expect their new service to be similar to gamepass. More of a ps plus and ps now combination.

That would be a pretty terrible decision, given the "highlight" game would be something readily available on GamesPass. When they do drop it, it will be PS exclusives front and center, not things that are already on their main competitors service

They have done it with old sports games recently UFC and fifa in the past

Not just old sports games. One year they gave out an NBA 2k game (18 or 19, I can’t remember) in the same release cycle it came out. They gave it out in spring if I remember correctly, when the game usually releases in September/October. Granted it wasn’t brand new, but it was still within its release cycle.

I would still be shocked if they released the show 22 while it is that new though

MLB 19 was a ps plus in October of that year it came out
