Bumping this as I just mentioned it in a current thread. I know in one of the old baseball games you could do an expansion team. I think I would have more fun doing this and then drafting from teams' unprotected players (like in a real life expansion) and signing free agents than just taking over a team and doing a franchise with them trying to keep rosters as close to real life as possible.

MLB said they are waiting for the Oakland and Tampa stadium issued to resolve before expansion. Sounds like Tampa is close so they are now waiting on Oakland.

The expansion mode would be awesome but I don’t know how they would adjust the schedules. You would almost have to do it in year 2 when the schedules become random I would think. They couldn’t rotate the interleague schedules or fix the day game issue in 2021. So I don’t know how they would get the schedules to work with an expansion team.

Yeah, it would almost have to be built into the mode to have a schedule generated dependent on which Division you pick and where the second expansion team would be.

Drawing a blank but I swear there was a game you could do this in and there were no problems. MVP or All-Star baseball maybe?

It was Allstar baseball. I can’t even remember if they even followed the real life schedule in that game.

I would love expansion! I kind of thought they were building towards it with stadium creator and creating/rebranding teams added the last few years. I’m hoping anyway.

Will echo what I said last year in this thread, expansion is low priority. Other areas should be the focus first before this.

I don't know...I don't think it'd be hard to implement from a scheduling perspective...sure, maybe they would need to trim the schedule down by a few games, or add a couple to make the math work, but both NBA 2K and the NHL series have managed to make it work.

IMO, the biggest issue would come from a roster perspective. Easy to set that stuff up with an OOTB roster, but once you start adding in custom rosters, I feel like things would start to get a bit rough.

IMO, the biggest issue would come from a roster perspective. Easy to set that stuff up with an OOTB roster, but once you start adding in custom rosters, I feel like things would start to get a bit rough.

You might be right I'm not a programmer. NBA has expansion but it does become pretty arcady in my opinion. Bottom like is more likely there just aren't enough people crying for expansion for them to spend resources on making it work.

Yeah, this is true. It's a shame because it's definitely something that I've wanted forever...When NHL and NBA 2K added it over the past number of years, it changed definitely changed my gameplay experience.

As someone who isn't wildly concerned about maintaining traditional schedule/league breakdown/divisional fortmat, with the current "mediocre" back end to this game, adding a "Custom League" format similar to NHL's that they put in this season, to institute into a franchise mode would be huge. It allows the user to pick the number of teams in the league, divisions, playoff format, etc. I honestly think this alone (But yes, add expansion onto it), would create a pretty immersive franchise mode, that would allow you to fully utilize some of the great roster content that's out there.

I would imagine generating a schedule would be a pretty simple algorithm that can’t possibly be the reason

I wouldn’t think schedule would be the biggest hurdle.

It would be things such as how do you go about assigning minor league organizations to the expansion teams, what minor league divisions and leagues do these newly added minor league teams play, accounting for at least 192 more roster spots (providing 2 team expansion), the uneven division (one division in each league will have 6 instead of 5 teams), rewriting the all star game roster logic (account for one player from each team), amongst I would imagine more rewriting of code under the hood.

An expansion mode isn’t impossible obviously, but it is a massive undertaking that imo should be low on the priority list considering the things that needs addressing in franchise mode.

This seems like the type of feature they would advertise out the gate to build the excitement

I think when it comes to franchise we will get the new schedule format, new playoff format (2 things that had to come anyway)

Something to the draft (nobody knows what yet)

And they mentioned other CBA changes. Curious which ones

If this was coming they would have led with it
