I'll make sure I keep my eyes on their ratings. So far only positives, except for Tejeda who was -1 in everything (he was like that when I signed him). Thanks!

Mets, Rays advance to Division Series

Neither Jacob deGrom nor Walker Buehler had their best stuff, as the Mets beat the Dodgers 7-6 in the NL Wild-Card game. In the AL, the Rays scored two in the top of the 9th to eliminate the Twins, 4-2.

The best-of-five Division Series round is now set. In the AL, the White Sox will face the Rays with the Yankees taking on the Astros. In the NL, the Braves and Mets renew their rivalry while the Padres face the Cardinals.

Kind of glad to see the Dodgers gone, but the Mets are loaded after acquiring Ketel Marte at the trade deadline. It's a tough lineup to face. Fortunately, we won't see deGrom until Game 3.

Game 1: Mike Soroka vs. David Peterson
Game 2: Max Fried vs. Joey Lucchesi
Game 3: Jose Berrios vs. Jacob deGrom

          2023 Arizona Diamondbacks 05/12-05/14

          Overall Record:23-17 (3rd NL West)

D-Backs avoid Tigers' sweep with walk off victory in game three

The Arizona Diamondbacks narrowly escaped being swept by the Detroit Tigers. Detroit won games one and two in the series, 13-3 and 8-5. Although the blow out was disheartening, game two was even more so. As in that game two, Arizona had a 5-1 lead before they allowed Detroit to tie the game and eventually win after a late inning rally.

Game three saw the hopes for a Tigers sweep increase early on. The Tigers got out to an early 4-0 lead after those four runs came in the 2nd inning. Three of which came on a three run inside the park home run by rookie catcher Eliezer Alfonzo. That hit came off a blooper type hit right inside the left field line that bounced just perfectly past Bratley.

Arizona responded quickly however with a run in the bottom of the inning and three more in the third.

That tie of 4-4 stayed true as Corbin Martin pitched strong the rest of his eight inning outing. Chad Green continued the strong inning with a scoreless top of the 9th which led the way for Arizona to walk it off in the bottom half of the inning as a Josh Rojas hard hit grounder got past a diving Jonathan Schoop to bring in Jordan Lawler who singled earlier in the inning.

Arizona will now stay at home to once again face off with the Padres who are coming off of a 2-1 series victory over Pittsburgh and who sit at 25-15 on the year.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Unsurprisingly, the Nationals were swept by the Dodgers. It was more due to their pitching than their offense, which was held in check for all three games except for a 5 run outburst in the 8th inning of game 1. The Nationals are now a dismal 13-37.

As the season is progressing (now in mid May) it's become clear that the team needs just one or two bats in the lineup to be more competitive. There have been many close games, and many missed opportunities. Joey Meneses should help in a bout a month or less, but a power bat may be needed to fill in for Nelson Cruz and Luke Voit (who have the most home runs and RBIs for the team, but batting averages hovering around the Mendoza line).

The Nationals stay home for a four game series against the Rockies.

                  Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 9,486)

                  August 23: Hops 10, Surf Dawgs 1
                  August 24: Surf Dawgs 15, Hops 14

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops wrapped up the home stand with a wild two game split with the Long Beach Surf Dawgs. Despite scoring 24 runs in the two games, the Hops only managed a split as they prepare to hit the road for ten games.

The Hops got their offense get in order on Tuesday evening as they pounded the Surf Dawgs 10-1. Art Mason hit for the cycle for the second time this month, going 5 for 5 and driving in three to help pace the Hops to the much needed victory.

This one was never really in doubt from the start with the Hop scoring twice in the second on back-to-back home runs from Robbie Westbrook (22) and Roberto Geronimo (31). An RBI single from Arturo Mardones and RBI double from Art Mason in the fourth made it 4-0.

Rodney Millar broke out of a mini slump with a solo home run in the sixth to make it 7-0. For Millar, it was his 36th home run on the season. Art Mason would homer in the eighth to complete the cycle. He hit for the cycle on August 11th win a win over Roswell also at AutoZone Park.

Ryan Pressley (8-11) pitched 8 1/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits. He struck out seven. Chuck Sanchez (7-4) was saddled with the loss for Long Beach. He lasted just four plus innings, allowing five runs on nine hits.

In Wednesday afternoon’s finale, the Hops dropped a slugfest to the Surf Dawgs 15-14. The teams combined to hit 11 home runs with the big blow being a seventh inning grand slam from light hitting right field Jim Esparza.

The Surf Dawgs led 4-0 after the first half inning and had an 11-4 lead in the fourth before a furious rally from the Hops. They would score seven times in the fifth to take a 13-11 lead. A two-run home run from Skyler Lyons and three-run bomb from Oscar Aleman keyed the rally.

Oliver Benedict came on in the seventh and struggled, loading the bases with none out before serving up the grand slam to Jim Esparza.

Huey Lopez went 4 for 5 with two home runs and five RBIs for the Surf Dawgs. Oscar Aleman homered and doubled, driving in five for the Hops in the loss.

The fifteen runs allowed were a season high against Flagstaff.

Flagstaff (64-64) will now hit the road for their longest road trip of the year, 10 games, as they will play at Fort Worth, West Texas and Santa Fe.

Around the League: Fort Worth’s Alex Pena (10-5) tossed eight innings of shutout baseball, striking out nine, and Randy Klaus (35th) homered as the Kings shutout Mesa 8-0.

                    bigjdotcom,

I’m currently trying to set up my own custom league and was wondering if you are able to go in and edit created teams uniforms or stadiums before starting the franchise?

I’ve created 12 teams so far but think I’d like to change some stadium choices after seeing some stadiums in the vault.

Apologies for interrupting the franchise talk.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

More tough luck for the Nationals. Not only did they lose three of the four games against the Rockies, they also lost Luis Garcia for 1-2 months with a strained calf. He has been the most consistent bat in the lineup with an average hovering near .300 all season. He was injured diving for a ground ball in the sixth inning of the finale, and on the very next pitch starter Anibal Sanchez had a chopper bounce up and hit him in the face and he was removed from the game as well. Luckily he just has a shiner and is not expected to miss a start. Luis Garcia now joins Ildemaro Vargas, Lane Thomas, and Joey Meneses as key everyday players on the IL. Alex Call has been removed from the 40 Man to make room for Yadiel Hernandez, who will be called up to fill in an outfield spot so CJ Abrams can move back to the infield.

I had originally posted a box score for what was the wildest game of The Show I've ever played. The third game against the Rockies ended with a 13-12 Nats victory after getting five runs in the 11th inning. The game ended on a sac fly by everyone's favorite free agent, Anderson Tejeda. This was after a pinch hit three run homer by Luke Voit, and a pinch hit RBI single by Lucius Fox. The rest of the sequence escapes me but it was the third fourth comeback of the game by the Nats, and I honestly couldn't believe I pulled it off.

The screenshot was here but apparently I can't post screenshots from my Switch, or I'm just technologically challenged.

In other Nationals news, Luke Voit has recently caught fire. After starting the season cold, he has become a power threat once again collecting four home runs and six RBIs during the last series. His RBI numbers should be higher, but with the struggling Nationals offense, he isn't getting the opportunities to increase his tally.

The Nationals are now 14-40 going into New York to end May/start June against the Mets. They will then fly to Cincinnati to face the Reds for four games. The month of June has a much more balanced schedule and the Nationals are hoping that by the time July comes around their record will look a little brighter.

                        2023 Arizona Diamondbacks 05/15-05/17

                        Overall Record:26-17 (2nd NL West)

D-Backs sweep Padres, take over 2nd spot in NL West

The Arizona Diamondbacks have faced off with the San Diego Padres in six games within the last ten days. In those six games, Arizona has gone 5-1. The teams have been battling it out for second place within the division early in this 2023 season and with Arizona's sweep, they take over that 2nd spot, still 3.5 behind Los Angeles.

Arizona got some solid starting pitching in the latest three game series. Both Aaron Nola and Zac Gallen threw complete games in the first and second games of the series. Nola ended with a complete game shutout victory (4-0) and Gallen finished his complete game while he gave up just two runs in the 7-2 victory. Madison Bumgarner came close to pitching the teams third consecutive complete game but was pulled after eight full in the 12-4 victory.

There was a bit of deju vu in the 3rd inning of game three. In the first inning, Buddy Kennedy and Ketel Marte both singled and Carson Kelly came behind them with a shot over the left center field wall. That was followed in the third inning with Kennedy getting on with a walk and Marte getting on with a hit by pitch and sure enough Kelly came back with another 400+ foot bomb that gave Arizona the 6-0 lead.

Arizona will now have a day off before finishing up the homestand with three against Miami (24-21)

Cardinals drop Opening Series to Dodgers

The Cardinals (1-2) dropped the opening series of the new season to the Dodgers in St.Louis. The Cardinals lost the first two games of the series with the offense still being in Florida apparently, but managed to avoid the sweep winning the series finale.

Jack Flaherty was solid on Opening Day coming off his Cy Young award winning season last year. Flaherty went 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks. Both runs came off the bat of Will Smith with a 2 run homerun in the 4th. The bullpen gave up 2 runs to keep the Cardinals from having a chance to get back into the game as they ended up losing 4-2.

Madison Bumgarner made his Cardinal debut in Game 2 and went just 5.1 innings. He was brilliant thru 5 but got lit up in the 6th with 3 runs on 5 hits. Bumgarner would take the loss as the Cardinals fell 3-1 as again the offense was dormant.

Reid Detmers who surprised everyone last year got the ball in the series finale and went 7 innings of scoreless baseball, leaving with 6 strikeouts, 2 hits allowed but threw 95 pitches. The bats weren't loud, but were effective as the Cards won 3-0 thanks to Gio Urshela's 3 run double in the 6th. Giovanny Gallegos got the save his first of the year.

The Cardinals will now host the Rockies for a 3 game series to begin the week.

The Nationals took two of three from the Mets, winning games that saw starts by Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom.

Game 1 (Nationals win 4-2): Scherzer left with the game tied in the sixth with a strained tricep and the Nats ended up driving in the winning run in the top of the 9th against Edwin Diaz. It seems as though whenever the Mets and Nats play, the Nats have Diaz's number. The only offense from the Mets came from Starling Marte, who has been pounding the Nationals pitching staff all year, be it with the long ball or using his speed to steal a base in a critical spot.

Game 2 (Nationals win 2-0): deGrom only went 1.3 innings before leaving with a pulled leg muscle. The Mets bullpen kept them in the game, but Stephen Strasburg was dominant through 8 and Victor Arano closed the door in the 9th. Not much else to say about this game.

Game 3 (Mets win 5-2): The Nationals started long-relief man Patrick Corbin, who is in the rotation because of the injury to MacKenzie Gore. It has been a rough year for Corbin, and even in his starts he is getting knocked around. It happened again, and the Nationals offense couldn't get him enough support.

Nothing too crazy in this series, but Anderson Tejeda's bat finally is showing signs of life after going 3-4 in game 2 and backup catcher Wilmer Perez went 3-3 in game 3. He has also recorded his first four career RBIs in his last few games.

The biggest news in my franchise was off the field, as the D-Backs waived Madison Bumgarner and signed by Oakland. Just checked again and he has been DFA'd by the A's...which potentially ruins the whole drama of him returning the the Bay Area.

An early trade occured as well, as the Reds traded Aristedes Aquino to the Royals for Michael Massey. Two rebuiling teams swapping young talent here.

The Nationals are hoping to build on a great start to their road trip, and now go to Cincinnati for four games against a Reds team that started the season just as bad as the Nationals but have been winning a little more lately. They still have a long way to go, and with a record of 18-37 they will be looking at young talent during this summer.

This is going to be a fun rebuild for you once everything starts to turn around.

For sure! I honestly thought I would have given up and gone back to my Guardians franchise by now, but I'm having too much fun with this. Just when things seem like they're going good, a key player gets injured and I have to call up another young player. Or, when things are getting rough, like after my nine game losing streak, I go out and win a series against a team like the Mets. I love it!
