That was mine and yeah they lost like 16 I believe was the final number. I'm surprised they are still in it, but neither the Red Sox nor the Blue Jays can separate themselves, as they keep beating up on each other and losing to the Rays and Orioles.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Ok LAST TIME I restart a franchise…..This time I decided to go in-depth and have a little more fun with it. I pieced together various media publications to create my own “Season Preview” Hopefully y’all enjoy it.

*Disclaimer, most of this content is a mashup from various articles I found and used to recreate my own “Spring Training Preview”*

An in depth analysis at the 2022 Seattle Mariners as Spring Training is set to begin. The Seattle Mariners farm system is the best in Major League Baseball. Here are some of the top prospects M’s fans should keep an eye on this Spring and in the campaign.

Seattle Mariners spring training is about to begin with a matchup vs the star studded lineup of the San Diego Padres. Of course, the minor leaguers have been in Peoria for over a week, but it does mean baseball is back. The Mariners have the number one farm system (according to Baseball America) because of the incredible depth throughout the organization, from Rookie Ball to Triple-A.

There are several prospects to watch during spring training, both at the big league and at the minor league levels. Despite recently trading away the organization’s top left-handed starting pitcher prospect, Brandon Williamson, plenty of talented arms are still in the pipeline. Not only talented arms but talented bats and gloves as well. Who will become the next household name?

The prospects you should already know

Julio Rodriguez has a chance to skip Triple-A Tacoma and break camp with the Mariners this spring. His numbers at Double-A Arkansas in 2021 were off-the-charts good. Rodríguez fits the right-field prototype with a middle-of-the-order offensive projection and a strong arm. He has well-above-average power and a better feel for contact than most with this profile. Indeed, Rodríguez struck out in just 18 percent of his plate appearances during his 46-game introduction to Double-A last season. The Mariners have shown they're more than willing to manipulate the service time of their top prospects to save a buck, suggesting they'll likely do the same thing with Rodríguez. Nonetheless, he should debut in the majors before the season is out

Matt Brash will turn 24 in 2022, and the Canadian hurler should be known by any diehard Mariners fan or MLB prospect hounds. If you’re both, then you’re probably like, this dude belongs in the first prospect grouping. He has a 2.28 ERA in 19 starts with 142 strikeouts in 97.1 innings. The only thing that kept him from going deeper in games was a high walk rate. Brash could be an option for Seattle in 2022 but he most likely starts at AAA Tacoma.

The 2022 season should act as a chance for Jarred Kelenic to truly establish himself. The 22-year-old was considered one of the top prospects in baseball before his MLB debut last year. After struggling, the Mariners will be counting on Kelenic for a big-league awakening this year. It would be hard for Seattle to make a playoff push if Kelenic isn't productive.

Noelvi Marte, a potential transition to third base is in the works for him when newly acquired Eugenio Suarez doesn’t work out. Marte is unlikely to arrive in Seattle this year, but he’s among the Top-15 in nearly every prospect publication.

Emerson Hancock, the sixth overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, has struggled with injuries. But when he pitches, his numbers are good. Hancock’s sample size is very small, as he registered just 44.2 innings in 2021 in 12 starts.

George Kirby is regarded as the top right-handed arm in the Seattle system and a Top-5 right-handed prospect in all of Major League Baseball. His appearance in the big-league rotation sometime in 2022 is all but locked in.

At the 2021 Draft, Harry Ford was taken with the 12th pick in the first round out of North Cobb HS in Kennesaw, Georgia. He made the top 100 MLB prospects after that. Ford played very well in 19 Rookie Ball games, where he batted .291 with a .982 OPS.

Only 19-years-old this season, he might be in for a position change this year. Originally selected as a catcher, that position might not be his meal-ticket to the big leagues. Expect Ford to make some noise this year.

Jonatan Clase has one of the craziest stat-lines you’ll ever see. In 14 games at Rookie ball, the 19-year-old stole second base 100 percent of the time it wasn’t occupied. That is not a misprint. He’s an outfielder who compers to former Seattle Mariners fan favorite Dee Gordon.

He is smaller than Dee but has room to grow and might be faster than the former stolen base leade, plus Clase shows decent plate discipline. If he can add a bit of power, then he’s going to be dangerous and a household name.

Zach DeLoach is another name Seattle Mariners fans will hear a lot of this summer. He destroyed pitching at High-A Everett and seemed like he would rapidly rise through the ranks. However, the 23-year-old stalled at Double-A Arkansas but still pulled out a .722 OPS and combined for a .841 OPS between the two stops.

He profiles as a high on-base percentage batter. Don’t be surprised if the second-round pick from Texas A&M starts the season at Double-A and makes a run towards the Big Leagues this season.

Alberto Rodriguez was the PTBNL (Player to be Named Later) in the 2020 trade that sent Taijaun Walker to Toronto. In 93 games at Low-A Modesto last year, he performed really well. Especially impactful was his plate discipline, walking 51 times.

The outfield prospect batted .295 with a .867 OPS. He finished the season at High-A but should progress through the system with the expected promotions ahead of him.

Levi Stoudt was the Seattle Mariners’ third-round pick in the 2019 MLB draft. He didn’t play in 2019, but the 24-year-old Lehigh University Mountain Hawks alumni started 15 games in 2021; boasting a 3.31 ERA and 86 Ks in 81.2 innings.

It was his promotion to Double-A that should bring Stoudt to the forefront of fans’ attention. In three starts at Arkansas, he went nearly 18 innings and struck out 19 while posting a modest 2.55 ERA.

Juan Then was on the minds of many Seattle Mariners fans and prospect purveyors prior to the pandemic, and rightfully so. In 2019, Then posted solid numbers. Over 9 minor league starts, he managed a 2.98 ERA with 48 Ks in 48.1 innings.

Lazaro Montes is the 17-year-old top international signing the Seattle Mariners made in January. The Cuban product was a top 10 international prospect that, at his young age, already stands at 6’5” and 200-pounds. Essentially he’s a lefty outfielder with more power potential than Julio Rodriguez. He’s only 17, but he should really take off in a more structured system.

This season, Jose Aquino will get his first taste of minor league baseball. The 20-year-old Dominican phenom will test his skills at the lower levels. Over 72.2 innings of Dominican Summer League ball, he has a 3.22 ERA with 92 K’s. The 6’3” flame-throwing lefty can hit 97 MPH on the radar gun but features decent control and a wipe-out slider.

Cade Marlowe was drafted in the 20th round of the 2019 major league baseball draft, which is probably not the memorable part. The University of West Georgia product made stops at Modesto, and Everett then skipped Arkansas and played one game at Triple-A Tacoma. Skipped Double-A? That’s surprising, especially for a prospect in the Mariners organization.

He finished the season with 61 extra-base hits and a .935 OPS. He’s a little older at 25 but only has two minor league seasons under his belt. Marlowe is on the fast track. He should make an appearance in a Seattle Mariners uniform in the not-too-distant future.

Going into the offseason, the Mariners set their sights on improving the offense. They didn’t find those upgrades on the open market, which rankled the fan base, though there are myriad reasons why that didn’t happen.

They did find additions on the trade market, as they got second baseman Adam Frazier from the Padres, and outfielder Jesse Winker and third baseman Eugenio Suárez from the Reds.

The internal belief is that those additions, plus the returning group and the addition of one of baseball’s top prospects, could prove to be a boon offensively for a team that desperately needed it.

“Looking at the lineup, I think it’s intriguing to me,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “It looks much better on paper. I’m excited about our lineup.”

Key players in: Adam Frazier (2B), Robbie Ray (SP), Jesse Winker (LF), Eugenio Suarez (3B)

Key players out: James Paxton (SP), Kyle Seager (3B), Yusei Kikuchi (SP)

      ~Media predictions for 2022 MLB Campaign~

NL Cy Young Award: Walker Buehler, Los Angeles Dodgers – Walker Buehler, a Cy Young candidate last year, leads the best team in MLB and his stuff could make him the ERA leader in 2022.

AL Cy Young Award: Shane Bieber, Cleveland Guardians – Fully healthy, Shane Bieber can retain his status as the best pitcher in the American League. He recorded a 1.63 ERA in a COVID-shortened 2020 season. As the leader of the Guardians’ rotation, a team that will rely on pitching to contend, Bieber has a great shot at winning his second Cy Young Award.

NL Most Valuable Player: Juan Soto, Washington Nationals – Juan Soto is the leader in the MLB MVP raceand for good reason. It’s still possible Freeman or Mookie Betts makes a run at the award, but we’ll bet on the best hitter in baseball to take home the honor.

AL Most Valuable Player: Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays – The Blue Jays will be more reliant on Vladito than before, following the departures of Robbie Ray and Marcus Semien. Fortunately, the 22-year-old boasts the talent to win a Triple Crown. Maybe he falls short of that in 2022, but he’s our pick to be named the AL’s Most Valuable Player.

NL Rookie of the Year: O’Neil Cruz, Pittsburgh Pirates – It’s not exactly a loaded field of candidates for the NL’s top rookie honors. Giants’ catcher Joey Bart won’t make enough consistent contact. Cruz is going to be on the Pirates’ roster before long. Once he’s up, the power production will earn him NL RoY.

AL Rookie of the Year: Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals – This could be the start of a very special career. Coming off a 33-homer and 29-steal season in the minors, Bobby Witt Jr. has all the makings of a superstar. There will be some rough spots along the way, but this is the best rookie in MLB.

NL Manager of the Year: Bob Melvin, San Diego Padres – The case for Melvin to win NL Manager of the Year will be even easier if the Padres get off to a hot start. Talent has never been the club’s issue, it needed a skipper who could run the operation without clubhouse trouble. Melvin is that guy and if San Diego competes for the NL West, he wins MOY.

AL Manager of the Year: Joe Maddon, Los Angeles Angels – Scott Servais is the favorite to win the honor and he’ll likely deliver a promising campaign in 2022. However, the Angels won 77 games compared to Seattle’s 90 wins last season. If both teams earl AL Wild Card spots, the manager with the best turnaround gets the honor.

        Tigers(36-31) drop 2 of 3 to Blue Jays(33-32)
Despite taking Friday night's 15 inning thriller, one in which neither team had a hit through 5, Mize held them hit less into the sixth, and neither team scored until the 13th, where the Tigers would go on to eventually win 2-1. This series was a major let down, Manning in his second start would allow 7 Runs in 4 innings and for the second series out of three the Tigers gave up 10+ in a game, this time losing 19-3. And in game three, despite Eduardo dealing, Gausman was simply better, only giving up 2, in the ninth inning, off of a Robbie Grossman 2 Run Blast to make the Jays sweat it out, but they would hold on after Javy Baez was picked off and a pinch Hitting Haase after a Schoop walk would result in a ground out.

Now the Tigers welcome the White Sox to town, in a pivotal mid season series, as their divisional lead has dropped to two in the previous week, and the Tigers need to make up ground.

            MARINERS CRUSHED BY PADRES

Seattle pitching was completely overmatched from the start in this one. Starting pitcher George Kirby couldn’t find a groove giving up 4 earned runs on 5 hits. Padres pitchers picked up 17 total strikeouts in the 7-0 blowout victory. The Mariners will look to get on track when they take on the Chicago Cubs tomorrow (02/27/22) at 1:10PM.

                Mariners continue to retool roster

Everyone in baseball knows that Seattle GM Jerry Dipoto loves to make trades and he made a slew of them yesterday but that wasn't enough for him. The Mariners have a solid roster from top to bottom however Dipoto identified the MLB bench as a sore spot as there is room for upgrades. Currently the Mariners bench is comprised of IFs Abraham Toro, Dylan Moore and Evan White and they are joined by OF Stuart Fairchild and C Luis Torrens.

The contract was handed out to Evan White seems to be a mistake in retrospect as White hasn't produced on the high upside he offered when he advanced to the bigs. White has 3 years left on his deal after this season and it appears the M's didn't want to carry that burden going forward with a slew of corner infield bats that could eventually replace him awaiting in the minors. The San Diego Padres have been shopping OF Wil Myers for months to no avail as they haven't found a taker for his $13.8 million salary which ends after this season. Both are seen as negative trade values according to insiders, however on this day it made for an even swap. Wil Myers was sent to Seattle for Evan White and prospects RHP Hunter Stratton and SS Patrick Frick . Wil Myers slides into the Mariners bench as a backup 1B and OF role and gives them a better proven hitter on the bench. The move also frees the Mariners of White's future salaries of $3.7 (2023), $4.3 (2024), and $4.8 (2025).

The next deal that Seattle made was to acquire contact specialist OF Yonathan Daza from the Colorado Rockies and they sent OF Stuart Fairchild, SP Asher Wojciechowski, 2B Riley Unroe to the Mile High city to complete that deal. The Rockies also sent back SP Jordan Sheffield and 2B Isaac Collins. Sheffield is now reunited with his younger brother Justus in the Mariners organization.

The organization reshuffling continued to move as with the influx of new young and desired spots in the lineup to give those youngsters regular at bats, the dominoes continued to fall. IF Dylan Moore was sent to Baltimore in exchange for SS prospect Darrell Hernaiz.

The final move was to add another high contact bat as the Mariners acquired IF Donovan Solano from the Reds. The Mariners sent OF Steven Souza Jr, 1B Zach Green, 2B Kaden Polcovich and OF Cade Marlowe to the Reds in exchange for Solano and prospects 2B Ivan Johnson, 1B Michael Triana and OF Michael Siani.

SOTO TAKES NO HOSTAGES IN NEW YORK

Juan Soto and the Washington Nationals won Opening Day in a big way, smacking the Mets 10-1. Soto was the real culprit in the beating, going 4-for-4 with two walks and a pair of mammoth home runs. Nelson Cruz doubled home a pair of runs sixth, finishing the day 2-for-5 with three RBI and a walk.

Stephen Strasburg was lights out on the mound, throwing a complete game allowing just the one run on four hits while striking out 13, including six in the first three innings. The lone run Strasburg surrendered was a solo home run to Francisco Lindor.

Jacob deGrom lasted just four and a third innings allowing three runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out four. The Mets bullpen really let things get out of hand with Tijuan Walker and Joely Rodriguez combining for another four and a third innings while allowing seven runs and a pair of walks on 10 hits.

The Nationals continue their season opening series against the Mets as they send Patrick Corbin to the mound against former longtime ace Max Scherzer.

Thanks. I was torn between my favorite team, the Phillies and home town team, the Mariners. Decided to go with the Mariners because of of the ease of following the team, transactions and farm system.

Cardinals swept by Pirates now trail Brewers in division

The Cardinals (81-64) were swept by the last place Pirates in Pittsburgh over the weekend and now trail the Brewers by 1/2 game.

Nothing went right in this series. The bats were cold, the pitching couldn't hold leads. Goldschmidt went 0 for 13 in the series with 8 strikeouts. Harrison Bader injured his back landing him on the IL. The bullpen blew up on Sunday as the Cardinals tried to avoid the sweep.

Nothing but frustration in this series, and the Cards couldn't get out of Pittsburgh fast enough.

The Cardinals will be off on Monday as they travel home for a pivotal 2 game mini series with the Brewers before hosting the Reds for a 4 game weekend series.

Cardinals place Harrison Bader on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed starting CF Harrison Bader on the 10 Day IL due to back spasms. Bader left Saturday's game with the injury. He's only expected to miss the 10 days, but he will miss the Brewers, Reds and Padres series. He'll likely rejoin the lineup the following weekend against the Dodgers in LA.

Nick Plummer was recalled from Memphis to take his spot on the roster. Plummer is another left handed bat in the outfield, but possesses good defensive skills and top end speed.

Cardinals activate Paul DeJong from IL

The Cardinals have activated SS/IF Paul DeJong from the IL. DeJong has missed the better of two months due to a broken right hand. DeJong was only hitting .182 with 9 homeruns and 29 RBI's at the time of his injury. His return is much needed since the Cardinals lost Gio Urshela for the season.

Juan Yepez was optioned back to Memphis in a corresponding move.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

The Devil’s finish off the season sitting at 59-103 37 GB of the division winning Angels. We finished with the worst record in the league first time I've ever done that lol. The poor pitching was the story all year. The one bright spot was the offense and some pieces in the pen. Will definitely be making a lot of moves in the off-season probably a whole different team next year.

                        Lineup:

Adam Eaton .297 13 HR 41 RBI would like to bring back

Taylor Motter .250 22 HR 65 RBI was awesome but would be better as super utility

Ryan Mcbroom .290 25 HR 83 RBI team MVP

Mitch Moreland .267 16 HR 53 RBI will platoon

                        Jorge Alfaro .250 10 HR 34 RBI

Michael Busch .268 3 HR 15 RBI excited for him to grow

                        Jared Hoying .245 12 HR 32 RBI

Christian Arroyo .229 6 HR 22 RBI will platoon

Luis Gonzalez .239 21 HR 64 RBI better than expected

                        Bench:

                        Guillermo Heredia .223 2 HR 11 RBI he's gone

Jacob Wilson .241 2 HR 23 RBI platoon

Zach McKinstry .217 3 HR 8 RBI platoon

                        Taylor Davis .219 4 RBI

                        Richie Martin .250 4 RBI

                        Marwin Gonzalez .215 6 HR 24 RBI

                        Rotation:

                        Mike Foltynewicz 10-18 5.05 ERA

                        Dinelson Lamet 10-11 5.08 ERA

                        Matt Milburn 3-0 1.97 ERA

                        Pen:

                        Chris Archer 1-8 9.15 ERA

                        Trent Thornton 0-1 6.23

                        Ryan Butcher 3-2 2.71

                        Kevin Quakenbush 2-1 3.55 ERA

                        Miguel Castro 0-0 3.38

                        Hitting Studs:

Taylor Motter stayed consistent through the month with Ryan Mcbroom heating up after he got the Starting Left field job. Luis Gonzalez has been sneaky good with 13 home runs.

                        Hitting Duds:

Mitch Moreland and Christian Arroyo both fell off a bit and the bench didn't do much.

                        Pitching Studs:

Again the rotation was not great this month hopefully the acquisitions of Archer and German will fix that. The pen continues to be solid and adding Bradley, Scott, and Betances to the mix will definitely help.

                        Transactions:

Optioned Stevie Wilkerson and Richie Martin. Claimed Brendan Donovan off waivers from the Cardinals. Claimed Ryan Hendrix off waivers from the Reds. Placed Tanner Rainey on waivers. Claimed Miguel Vargas off waivers from Dodgers. Claimed Miguel Castro and Estevan Florial from the Yankees. Placed Anthony Swarzak on waivers. Recalled Stevie Wilkerson.

                        Injuries:

Taylor Motter and Evan Marshall were our All Stars

Yankees Take 2 Of 3 From Rangers, Split 2 Game Mini Series With Blue Jays

Blake Snell would struggle in his Yankee debut, surrendering 4 runs and 5 walks over 5 IP. The 4 runs all came off of a Nathaniel Lowe grand slam into the short porch. Rangers Jack Leiter would have a solid debut outing, holding the Yankees to just 2 runs over 5.1 IP. His day would be interrupted by an elbow sprain in the 6th, and the Yankees would rally back, capped off by a Stanton 2 run shot in the 8th. Yankees Win 5-4.
The series finale would end in a 7-2 blowout win.

In game 1 of a 2 game mini series Vs the Jays we’d drop a close one 4-3. The offense showed life late, scoring 2 runs in the 7th, ending with a Torres Solo HR in the 9th, but it was too little, too late.

In game 2, the Blue Jays were primed to pull off a 2 game road sweep of the Yankees, leading 8-3 entering the 8th. The Yankees would storm back, powered by a Rizzo grand slam, to tie it at 8-8. 2 innings later, the Yankees would walk it off in the 10th with an opposite field porch shot from Higashioka. Yankees Win 9-8.

We almost did it again the next night, kicking off a 4 game series in Chicago. Kopech would dominate the Yankee bats through 7 innings, only allowing 1 run, and racking up 9K’s. Going into the 9th down 7-2, we’d push across 4 runs, cutting it to 7-6.

The game would end on a controversial heartbreaker. Trailing by 1, 2 outs, with IKF on second, DJ LeMahieu would line a ball into the LF corner. IKF was setup to score with ease, and with Eloy Jimenez (not known for his arm or glove) out in LF, LeMahieu would race around 1B with no hesitation. Jimenez would come up firing, stunning LeMahieu as he just barely gunned him down at 2B, ending the game then and there. Score frozen at 7-6, White Sox.

Anthony Rizzo Out 1-2 Weeks With Finger Contusion

Yankees Sign Todd Frazier, 1 Year 3.3M
After a brief run with the team back in 2017, Todd Frazier is back in the Bronx. With uninspiring depth at 1B, the Yankees went outside the organization to fill in during Rizzo’s absence. Frazier will slot in at 1B. He’ll at least have an opportunity to audition for other teams, to prove he can still hit at the MLB level, but there is a chance he sticks around if he plays well during this stretch.

                            Is Mike Trout Human?
Through 35 games and 134 AB’s, Trout is hitting an absurd .418 with a 494 OBP For the Angels.

                            Next Up:
With his team sitting at 24-14, Blake Snell makes his second start as a Yankee, taking on the White Sox and Dylan Cease.
