    Mariners roll to 18-5 start

As we head towards the end of April, the Mariners have a MLB best 18-5 record on the season lead by many strong starts in the lineup. Dynamic difficulty has reached HOF for both pitching and hitting so its getting real competitive now and I'm loving it. Still haven't had many walks allowed while pitching, mostly pitch to contact or dot the edges.

    Lineup

    2B Adam Frazier .337 AVG, 4 RBIs, 3 2Bs, 11 Ks, 5 BBs
    SS JP Crawford .315 AVG, 1 HR, 10 RBIs, 4 2Bs, 4 Ks, 6 BBs, 1 SB
    1B Ty France .284 AVG, 2 HRs, 8 RBIs, 7 2Bs, 11 Ks, 9 BBs
    LF Kyle Lewis .396 AVG, 9 HRs, 28 RBIs, 4 2Bs, 10 Ks, 6 BBs, 1 SB
    RF Mitch Haniger .318 AVG, 9 HRs, 24 RBIS, 5 2Bs, 1 3B, 11 Ks, 8 BBs
    DH Jesse Winker .358 AVG, 5 HRs, 18 RBIs, 10 2Bs, 7 Ks, 2 BBs
    3B Eugenio Suarez .311 AVG, 8 HRs, 21 RBIs, 5 2Bs, 22 Ks, 8 BBs
    CF Julio Rodriguez .287 AVG, 2 HRs, 9 RBIs, 2 2Bs, 1 3B, 11 Ks, 1 BB, 2 SB
    C Christian Vazquez .234 AVG, 1 HR, 10 RBIs, 3 2Bs, 9 Ks, 2 BBs

    Bench

    OF Wil Myers .293 AVG, 2 HRs, 7 RBIs, 4 2Bs, 10Ks, 8 BBs
OF Yonathan Daza .300 AVG, 1K, 1 BB
    IF Donovan Solano .286 AVG, 2 2Bs, 2 RBIs, 10 Ks, 1 BB
    C Luis Torrens .263 AVG, 1 RBI, 2 Ks, 1 BB
    IF Abraham Toro .357 AVG, 2 HRs, 3 RBIs, 2 2Bs, 2 BBs

    Rotation

    Logan Gilbert 4-1, 2.52 ERA, 35.2 IP, 59 Ks, 0 BBs
    Robbie Ray 2-2, 1.45 ERA, 31 IP, 51 Ks, 0 BBs
    Marco Gonzales 4-0, 1.64 ERA, 33 IP, 20 Ks, 1 BB
    Chris Flexen 2-0, 4.37 ERA, 22.2 IP, 19 Ks, 0 BBs
    Matt Brash 2-0, 2.63 ERA, 27.1 IP, 39 Ks, 1 BBs

    Bullpen

    Ken Giles 6G, 6.1 IP, 1.42 ERA, 8 Ks, 0 BBs
    Casey Sadler 6G, 7 IP, 0.00 ERA, 6 Ks, 0 BBs
    Oliver Perez 8G, 1-0, 7.1 IP, 1.23 ERA, 9 Ks, 0 BBs
    Justus Sheffield 10G, 13 IP, 3.46 ERA, 9 Ks, 0 BBs
    Diego Castillo 9G, 8.2 IP, 1-1, 1 SV, 4.15 ERA, 15 Ks, 2 BBs
    Drew Steckenreider 8G, 7.1 IP, 2-1, 3.68 ERA, 14Ks, 0 BBs
    Paul Sewald 10G, 9.1 IP, 5 SV, 0.00 ERA, 13 Ks, 0 BBs

    Trade Alert
The Seattle Mariners have agreed to trade RP Ken Giles to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for RP Darwinzon Hernandez, who has struggled mightily to the tune of a 7.04 ERA in 7.2 IP for Triple A Worcester. The Mariners are hoping the change of scenery does good for the hard throwing lefty, while the Sox get a much needed upgrade in their MLB Bullpen. Hernandez has been optioned to Triple A Tacoma and RP Erik Swanson gets the promotion from Tacoma to the bigs. Swanson has been dominant in the bullpen so far for Tacoma to the tune of a 1-0, 1.26 ERA and 12 Ks in 14.1 innings of relief.

Taking a look around the league, the standings currently sit like this

    AL East

Detroit(41-36) Takes 2/3 Against Red Sox(41-34) at Fenway

In what seemed to be an important series in mid June, the Tigers bats showed up 2/3 days and that was enough to take the series. Casey Mize also pitched well in game one going 6 strong with 8 hits and 3 earned, but that was not enough for the win, as it would take 3 more Tigers runs later on, one in the seventh and two in the ninth to take this one 5-3. Game 2 got away quickly from spot starter Chase Anderson and it showed as they took a 8-1 Defeat. But Eduardo Rodriguez and the Tigers struck their revenge in the rubber match as they struck for 18 hits and 12 runs to take the game 12-5. Eduardo went 8 with 9 hits, and 4 earned to get the W.

Fulmer now comes off of the IL after his 15 day stint, and that corresponding move is to send the struggling Carlson back to Toledo. Now the Tigers get a much needed off day before heading out to Arizona for a 3 gamer against the D Backs.

        Texas Rangers Update (MOM)
        Season 2
The First month of the Season has passed and the Rangers sit at 12-16 (3rd Place 5.5 games out of first) The team has shown a lot of improvement from last year’s 56-106 debacle. Our starting pitching got off to a really bad start but have shown improvement over the past 2 weeks. The good news is other than Houston and Seattle no one in our division is doing well. We are all kind of clumped together.
Around the league the defending World Champion Dodgers have fallen on hard times. They are in dead last place in the division 7 games out of first. Why? Betts, Bellinger are both on IL. Kershaw signed with the Giants in the Offseason and I signed Tre Turner.
        Our Updates by position
C- Garver who is currently on the IL was off to a really slow start. His backup is Gustavo Camero. What a surprise he’s been hitting over 270. I also called up long time vet Yadier Molina when Garver went down. He was signed in the offseason and did not make the team out of Spring Training. He was thus sent down to AA.
1B- Brett Miller- Hitting 220. Strikes out a lot but has good power
2B- Marcus Semien- Coming off an American League Batting title he continues to hit with an average over 300
SS- Corey Seagar- Continues to produce especially in the clutch moments
3B- Andy Ibanez- 280 hitter and a steady player
LF- Jake Marisnick- Suprisingly hitting over 270
CF- Trea Turner- Leads the league in SB. Need him to bring his 240 AVG up
RF- Joey Gallo- I’m glad he’s back. 10HRs in the first month. Welcome back Joey. Got him back in FA

As far as pitching goes, Joe Musgrove has been terrible. I signed him as my ace in the Offseason and he just isn’t performing. Walks have been a problem. Dunning was sent down at the beginning of May for Nick Tropeano. Koji Ahrira pitched a complete game shut out last game. Jack Leiter made his big league debut last game and Martin Perez rounds out the starters

Steven Souza Jr. comes to bat with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, bases loaded facing Reds RP Lucas Sims. First pitch ball, second pitch ball, third pitch strike swinging, next pitch strike swinging, STRIKE OUT SWINGING to end the game……Guess you can’t leave 16 runners on base and still expect to win the game. The Mariners have got to find their winning ways and turn this thing around before the regular season starts

Cardinals split 2 game series with Brewers

The Cardinals (88-71) split their mini 2 game series with the Brewers and are now 1.5 games back with 4 days left in the season. The Brewers have a 4 game series with the Marlins upcoming. The Cardinals have 3 versus the Pirates in St.Louis.

The Cardinals won Tuesday night in a game that went scoreless thru 9 innings. In the 10th, Tommy Edman and Lars Nootbaar would deliver back to back 2 out RBI hits to put the Cardinals up 2-0. Giovanny Gallegos would close it out to preserve the victory getting the Cards to within 1/2 game.

Wednesday would be another pitchers duel as Miles Mikolas and Freddy Perralta matched each other inning for inning. In the 6th, Ty France hit a solo homerun to put the Brewers up 1-0. In the Top of the 7th, Paul DeJong would get that run back with a solo homerun of his own tying the game at 1. In the 8th, the bullpen fell apart as Genesis Cabrera would give up a single to Christian Yelich. After getting Kolten Wong to pop out, the Cards got Jordan Hicks into the game. Yelich would take 2nd base on a Jordan Hicks wild pitch. Next pitch, Ty France would strike again, only this time with an RBI single putting the Brewers up 2-1. Renfoe would be out on a FC, Willy Adames intentionally walked and Hicks then struck out Wilson Ramos to end the inning. Devin Williams would strike out the side in the top of the 9th to secure the victory.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they fly home to face the Pirates. Depending on what happens Thursday between the Brewers and Marlins, the Cards would either be a game down or two games down. Either way, a sweep of the Pirates would be best for the Cards. Any loss, especially if down two games and it could be the end of the divisional championship hopes.

The Cardinals are also a 1.5 game half back of the 2nd wildcard spot.

Tigers(43-37) Stay Hot on Road Trip, Take 2/3 from D Backs(35-44)
It seems that the Tigers may have figured something out offensively. Scoring 17 over the combined three games may have helped. Also, what definitely helped was the Pitching, only giving up 7 to a struggling D Backs offense. Turnbull went 6.0 giving up 4 ER, on 4 H, getting the Tigers the Game 1 victory 7-4.

Pineda went only 5, giving up all 3 ER, on 7 H, but the offense was no where to be found which contributed to the 3-2 loss.

Mize however in Game three shut the door, pitching a complete game shutout, with only 4 hits and 2 walks, but less than stellar strikeout numbers. Greene, Baez would homer, and Barnhart looked to finally figure out his swing as the Tigers would get 13 hits and 8 runs in an 8-0 victory.

Now the Motor City Kitties head to the Bay, for a two game set to not only wrap up the road trip, but the month of June as well.

Angels Limp in to the All Star Break

The Angels lost to the Dodgers to close out the first half of their season. The loss was the Halos 3rd in a row, and they hope to get back on track after the break.

Freddie Freeman's grand slam in the 4th inning blew the game wide open and Noah Syndergaard who suffered the loss had his shortest outing of the season. The Angels go in to the break with a record of 60-36 good enough for 1st place in the AL West. They lead the Astros (59-37) by one game.

Cardinals finish season 90-72, miss playoffs by one game

The Cardinals (90-72) concluded their 2022 season Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium with a come from behind 6-4 win over the Pirates. The Cardinals needed the win and a Braves loss to set up a tie and a game 163 to play for the right to earn the 2nd wild card spot. The Cardinals did their part, but the Braves walked off the Mets in the 10th inning thanks to Freddie Freeman's 300th career homerun.

The Cardinals lost on Friday night to put themselves squarely up against the wall and cost them the chance to win the Central Division as the Brewers beat the Marlins. The Cardinals were then 2 games behind both the Padres and Braves for the wildcard. After a thrilling 5-3 win on Saturday night where Nolan Arenado's 3 run homerun in the 7th propelled the victory, the Braves lost to the Mets again and the Cards were just one game back and still alive in the playoffs. But with the Braves win on Sunday, the season came to a screeching halt.

Very frustrating end to the 2022 campaign that saw the Cardinals be in the playoff race and in good shape most of the season until a bad stretch in September changed it all.

The Cardinals will now turn to their focus on their roster, potential free agents, potential trades and see where they fix some of the problems the 2022 team faced, primarily consistency from the starting pitching and major league ready depth for injuries.

Such a disappointing end to the season.

2022 season wrap up coming soon.

Oh I'm definitely proud of winning 90 games especially with some of the injuries we endured, but to be so close to the playoffs, to have it end on the final day after grinding thru Spring Training and 162 games, to be eliminated on the final day of the season is a tough pill to swallow.

Good point, it's almost better to be eliminated by the beginning of July ( like my team currently ).
