Let me me explain how I play the game, this year I would sim from the start of the season to the draft or depending on the record, first of July. Then I play ever 6th game and all of the playoff if I make it.i enjoy it this way, makes the season shorter and I play more meaningful games.
So my question is how do you keep the game alive? Should I do a 30 team control? That way if I get bored I can play with anew team without having to restart fully. Should I limit myself to trades and free agency and try and keep it mostly realistic? Any tips on how to keep the game alive its much appreciated.

There a nice bunch of options to try. Fantasy draft is always fun, but its hard to do that with 30 team control unless you just let the CPU draft all the teams and you get what you get.

Complete rebuilds are fun too, take the worst team and try to build them back up.

I find that the more I sim, the more I become disinterested in that franchise.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Going to boot up a franchise for the first time this season, but doing it in unique fashion.

I dislike starting at Opening Day this far into the season since it can be a bit of a marathon just to get to where we are at in the actual season.

So, I plan to simulate from Opening Day to June 13th and begin my season from there.

I will choose a franchise that seems to be in it's own interesting situation in the MLB universe, regardless of whether they are contending or a rebuild at heart.

This knocks out a solid 50+ games from the schedule and also creates a handful of storylines that are both parallel and different from the real world MLB.

Crossing fingers for a team that should be rebuilding that is competitive. Something to where I need to make a decision during the month of June to mid July on whether or not we are going for it or shipping off vets that upped their trade value.

      Excited.

TIGERS STUN BLUE JAYS IN 9TH

          BOX SCORE

(normally I would have waited til the end of the series to post, but this game was just too awesome, that it had to have it's own post. Plus, I wanted to include the trades that happened afterwards.)

The Detroit Tigers, and Toronto Blue Jays, the teams with the two best records in the American League, opened up their three game series in classic style, culminating in a come from behind win.

Detroit opened the scoring in the 4th, when Juan Soto singled in Javier Baez to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays came right back in the bottom half of the inning, plating two runs. Teoscar Hernandez hit an RBI double to right, scoring Bo Bichette, then Lourdes Gurriel Jr. singled to center, plating Hernandez. The Jays led 2-1.

Detroit tied the game in the 5th, when Eric Haase took Jays starter Hyun-Jin Ryu deep to left. However, the Jays came right back in the bottom of the 5th, reclaiming the lead on a Bo Bichette double to right, scoring Josh Fuentes.

The Jays added a pair of runs in the bottom of the 8th, on a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. home run to left, his 29th of the season, and later an RBI single by Fuentes. This put the Jays up 5-2 going into the 9th.

Jordan Romano came on in the 9th for the Jays to try to close it out. Romano had converted 40 of 43 save opportunities up to this point. He retired Spencer Torkelson, before Jonathan Schoop reached on an error, and Jeimer Candelario was hit by a pitch, bringing the tying run to the plate.

Riley Greene promptly doubled to right, scoring Schoop, cutting the lead to 5-3. Austin Meadows then pinch hit for Victor Reyes. On a 2-2 count, Meadows delivered, lining a 3 run home run just over the fence in right, putting the Tigers on top 6-5. Michael Fulmer retired the Jays in order in the bottom of the 9th securing the dramatic come from behind 6-5 win for the Tigers.

          TIGERS ACQUIRE MAHLE, SIMS

Following the game, it was announced that the Tigers had acquired starting pitcher Tyler Mahle, and reliever Lucas Sims from the Cincinnati Reds, in exchange for starter Matt Manning, reliever Kyle Funkhouser, and prospect Joey Wentz.

Mahle was 9-7 in 21 starts with the Reds. He had a 2.74 ERA in 131 1/3 innings, with a 1.30 WHIP. Sims was 1-2 wiht 25 saves in 33 games for the Reds. He had a 2.41 ERA in 33 2/3 innings.

Manning was 5-4 in 20 starts for the Tigers. He had a 4.18 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP in 112 innings. Funkhouser was 3-1 in 24 games with the Tigers. He had a 3.38 ERA in 24 innings. Funkhouser had started the season on the I.L. Wentz went 7-4 with a 4.93 ERA in 102 1/3 innings with Toledo.

Mahle is under team control through 2023. Sims is under team control through 2024, but both are due big raises in arbitration, a big reason the Reds were willing to let them go. Manning is under team control through 2027, so they get a quality starter at a cheaper cost for much longer. Funkhouser is under team control until 2026.

          YANKEES ACQUIRE MULLINS

The Tigers weren't the only team to make a splash Thursday night. The New York Yankees announced that they had acquired CF Cedric Mullins from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for pitcher Luis Gil, and prospects Jasson Dominguez, and Oswaldo Cabrera. Mullins was hitting .288 with 22 HR and 55 RBI and 23 SB in 99 games with the O's. Dominguez was the Yankees top prospect, and ranked #3 overall. Cabrera was the Yankees #2 prospect.

            Cardinals sweep Rockies in St.Louis

The Cardinals (18-15) played some of their best baseball of the season when they swept the Rockies over the weekend in St.Louis. The Cardinals pull to within 2 games of the Cubs in the NL Central.

The series started off with the Cardinals walking off the Rockies in the 13th inning Friday night on an Anthony Rizzo RBI single to earn the 5-4 victory. On Saturday the Cardinals were one out away from a combined no hitter when Kris Bryant singled up the middle. The Cards though would win going away 5-0. On Sunday it was more offense and pitching as the Cardinals topped the Rockies 8-2 behind an offensive explosion from Yairo Munoz who put up 5 RBI's.

The Cardinals will now travel to Los Angeles for a 3 game series with the Dodgers.

Gio Urshela back to IL with shoulder injury

Gio Urhsela was just activated from the IL about a week or so ago and now he's back on it, this time with a shoulder injury. Urshela left Friday nights game with the injury after diving for a ball. He's expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

Nolan Gorman was recalled from Memphis to take the vacant roster spot and is likely going to be the everyday 3rd baseman.

                    BOX SCORE

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, saw it evaporate, then scored late to beat the Blue Jays, 3-2 Friday night in Toronto. Miguel Cabrera knocked in the go ahead run in the top of the 9th on a sac fly to right, and Gregory Soto got the Jays out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th, to earn his 39th save of the season.

Kyle Dutcher led off the game with his 28th home run of the season. Spencer Torkelson gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 5th, with his 35th homer of the year, a solo shot to left. The Blue Jays got a run back in the bottom of the 5th, on a solo home run by Mark Chapman, his 21st of the year. Cavan Biggio tied it in the 6th with his 4th home run of the season.

Casey Mize started for the Tigers, and went 7 strong innings, allowing just the 2 runs on 5 hits, with 5 strikeouts and a walk. He didn't figure in the decision. Lucas Sims, acquired yesterday from the Reds, pitched a perfect 8th inning, to earn the win, his second of the season, first with the Tigers.

Yusei Kikuchi started for the Jays, and went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, with 6 strikeouts and a walk. Bowden Francis took the loss for the Jays.

The Tigers and Jays will play the final game of the series tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. Kevin Gausman will start for the Jays. Tiger manager A.J. Hinch said this game will be a "bullpen game," as the scheduled starter Matt Manning was traded to the Reds on Thursday, and he doesn't want to have to start someone on short rest. There was some thought about calling up someone to start the game, but because Mize and Eduardo Rodriguez were able to pitch through the 7th inning in the last two games, the bullpen is in good enough shape to piece together the game.

                      BOX SCORE

It was another improbable comeback. But, this season, the Detroit Tigers have made the improbable probable. The Tigers, some how, some way, found a way to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. This time trailing 6-1 in the 9th inning, down to their final two outs. In a game where they could get virtually no offense going against Kevin Gausman Tim Mayza, and Julian Merryweather. Still, they found a way to win.

The Tigers had to piece together a bullpen game, using 7 pitchers. Still, they found a way to win.

Wily Peralta started the game. Manager A.J. Hinch had hoped to get 3 or 4 good innings from Peralta, who has struggled most of the season. He got 5 innings of 1 run ball. Still, he left the game with the Tigers trailing 1-0, because, quite simply, Kevin Gausman was eating them alive. The Tigers trailed 2-0 in the 7th, before a Juan Soto home run cut the deficit to 2-1. It was Soto's 27th of the season, second with the Tigers. But the bullpen couldn't keep it close. Tyler Alexander allowed a pair of runs in the 7th, then Joe Jimenez and Andrew Chafin each allowed a run in the 8th, before Michael Fulmer came in and shut down the Astros in order.

Still, all looked lost for the Tigers. 6-1 Blue Jays, Tigers down to their last 3 outs. And then, it happened.

Kyle Dutcher led off the 9th by grounded sharply to first. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. dove and knocked it down, picked it up, and threw to the covering Julian Merryweather...but it wasn't in time. Infield single, which extended Dutcher's hitting streak to 30 games. Man on first, no outs, still down by 5. But then Javier Baez walked. Juan Soto singled to right, scoring Dutcher. 6-2, runners on first and second, no outs. Then Miguel Cabrera blooped a single just in front of the left fielder Gurriel Jr. Bases loaded, tying run at the plate, no outs. Now the impossible seemed possible. But, Spencer Torkelson struck out. Now, bases loaded, 1 out, Eric Haase at the plate. Eric Haase does not hit right handers well. He was just 3-17 with 1 home run against them this season. Plus, he doesn't run all that well. Both Victor Reyes, and Willi Castro were on the bench. Both hit right handers better.

But, Hinch rolled the dice. "I figured, we were down by 4. The chances of stringing together 2 or 3 hits was probably pretty slim. We needed a big fly. When Eric connects, it usually goes a long way. I figured it was our best chance"

                      He was right.

With a 2-2 count, Blue Jay's closer Jordan Romano hung a curve ball, and Haase didn't miss it, sending it deep into the upper deck in left field, 400 feet away, just inside the foul pole for a game tying grand slam. The improbable happened, yet again. Tie game. 6-6. Ross Stripling would come on and get out of the inning with the game still tied. but the Tigers still had the momentum.

Michael Fulmer went out in the bottom of the 9th, and struck out the side. You could tell the Blue Jays were deflated. In the top of the 10th, with the ghost runner on second, Kyle Dutcher laced a double into right field, giving the Tigers a 7-6 lead. Stripling got the next two hitters out, but then Miguel Cabrera, in the midst of a renaissance season, hit a 2 run home run into the left field seats, giving the Tigers a 9-6 lead. Gregory Soto then went out and struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th, securing the most improbable win of the Tigers season to this point.

Twins Round Out June With Series Win in Cleveland

As the calendar flips over to July, the Twins have to be happy with the way they have been playing lately as the mid-point of the season approaches. While their recent success is a step in the correct direction, June was not all well as the Twins endured two extended losing streaks over the month, one 5-gamer and another 7-gamer less than a week later.

They are 9-2 since ending that seven game losing streak, most recently taking three of four in Cleveland.

On Monday night, Cleveland erased a two-run deficit in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at four, only to watch Byron Buxton round the bases after a solo homer in the top of the ninth and Twins bullpen held on for a 5-4 win. Josh Winder put together his most impressive start of his young career, going five innings, allowing just two runs with four strikeouts.

Tuesday night was a pitching duel between Drew Strotman and Zack Plesac, and the Guardians came out on top 1-0 on a solo homerun off the bat of Ahmed Rosario in the 6th. Strotman (1-2) allowed the homerun, gong six innings and striking out five. Plesac (3-9) went eight shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out four.

Wednesday night was a 10-4 blowout win for Minnesota. Carlos Correa lead the offense with not one but two three-run homeruns, ending his night two for five with six RBI. Chris Archer gave up four runs (two earned) in his five innings, but it was Sonny Gray (4-7) who picked up the win throwing two scoreless innings in relief. The Guardians bullpen imploding late, wasting a solid outing from ace Shane Bieber.

On get away day, Minnesota's offense again errupted as the Twins won 7-2, but it was Bailey Ober's day on the mound. Ober (4-0) took a no-hitter into the sixth and a shutout into the ninth before Jose Ramirez deposited a two-run shot into the seats with two outs. Both runs were unearned. Max Kepler homered twice in the game and Gary Sanchez also blasted a three-run shot to lead the offense.

The Twins head back home for a short three-game weekend homestand with the Orioles. Dylan Bundy, Josh Winder and Drew Strotman are in line to make the starts on the mound but Chris Paddack was recently activated from the IL and could slot in there somewhere over the weekend.

Yep. He's a free agent at season's end so I don't anticipate resigning him this offseason.

Cardinals swept by Dodgers fall back to .500

The Cardinals (18-18) were swept by the Dodgers in a 3 game series in Los Angeles to begin the week. The Cardinals now are back at .500 and find themselves 4 games back of the Cubs in the NL Central.

The Dodgers bats were hot and they just kept getting timely hit after timely hit this series and the Cardinals bats couldn't keep pace. Adam Wainwright was roughed up in Game 1 on Monday and Robbie Ray was roughed up on Wednesday night. Jack Flaherty pitched well Tuesday but got no run support in a 3-0 loss where the Cards managed 2 hits.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they travel to San Francisco for a 3 game weekend series with the Giants.
