I can't really tell any difference between game mode and standard mode on my TV in regards to visual fidelity.

I use game mode on my LG C1 and the colors look amazing. Nothing is washed out.

        Re: Monitor vs TV

If you are going for image quality a C1 or any OLED will provide the optimal image quality like contrast, colors, black levels and the lowest response time found on any monitor or tv period.

If you want to experience the game at a sharper image and best input lag numbers a monitor is the only choice.

A 4k 27 inch monitor like the LG one offers hdmi 2.1 and provides extremely low input lag and good response time. The image will look sharper on the monitor over a 55 or 65 inch oled but the colors, blacks, and response time will be best on the oled plus the immersion factor of a big screen.

If you want to have pin point accuracy with pitching and hitting and a sharper image you go with the monitor

I play on a 37 inch curved monitor despite having two 65 inch 4k tv in the house. I just find the monitor is a better option for me. Specially since I can sit closer to it then i could if I am in living room using tv

            Re: Monitor vs TV

I think it's almost universally accepted that games should be played on game mode. Like others have said, it gives you the least input lag. I really don't think there is a TV out there where anything other than game mode will give you the least input lag. And to me that is extremely important. Especially in a game like The Show.

It turns off all post-processing and that will usually still give you the best picture, but I guess there are some TV's where that might differ. Maybe lower to mid-end do what . But I think 99.9% of the time you wanna use game mode. Any drop in graphic fidelity in game mode should be very minimal.

TV's like the recent LG OLED's are fantastic gaming TV's packed with gaming specific features such as VRR, Freesync, and Gsync. Also some have low latency mode.

But, I always say, do what feels the best and looks the best for you.

I think it depends on the game. If you're playing something like Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed, etc., I think playing with out Game Mode would be fine. The input lag will still be totally manageable, if not imperceivable in those games, and the visuals would be enhanced. I think in online shooters or sports games though, you're generally better off with using game mode.

I thought it worked well and enjoyed it. The thing it didn't do well is HDR. Though the monitor could do HDR in theory it was not good and needed to turn HDR off.

I upgraded to an LG C1 48" TV a few months ago. I really like this TV. It is good for gaming and watching TV. HDR is now playable (though to be honest I'm still not sold on HDR and I'm still not sure it really offers much in gaming yet in my opinion). Visually I prefer the LG C1 to anything I have had. I'm not sure I prefer the 48" over the 28" for gaming (I sit close when gaming anyway).

I also had a cheaper 4K 55" TV before monitor. This experience was the worst of the 3. HDR not good, needed to play on game mode to reduce input lag which hurt fidelity of image some.

So for me, it is LG C1, followed closely by gaming monitor, and a distant 3rd was the older 4K TV. I think the big thing with the monitor is to understand HDR may be poor even if the monitor is HDR capable.

And then there are things to consider like VRR. HDMI 2.1. You will want your TV or monitor to have this for future so you can play 120fps with variable refresh rate for supported games (my monitor and old TV did not have this).

You’re comment made me look into a 55” LG C1 and I’m buying it tomorrow. Looks awesome. So thank you!

I've pretty much decided I'm getting the LG OLED everyone has been talking about. The only thing is I'd really like to find a new one, the C2's that have the 42". I think a 48" would be too big to use as a computer monitor which is how I'd be using it.

I have the Sony AH8 OLED 55”. Thing is absolutely beautiful, blacks are very very dark. I don’t think you can go wrong with any good OLED.

I’ve had a LG oled for about a year and seems to be just fine for me including playing the Show on it. I know some of you were talking burn in concerns. Just wanted to say I’ve had no problem there either. I think my tv has built in protection against it.

If anyone is in the market for an OLED, I would strongly consider holding off on buying last years C1 and would purchase this years new C2 model. The biggest downfall of the C1 was it's brightness, which is SUPER important for HDR. The new C2's should be about 30% brighter. Just a heads up.

I don't have one, but my parents bought an LG (I believe C1, maybe B1?) last year and I'll add to the growing chorus that it's awesome. I'd absolutely get one if I could afford it. Games look incredible on it, the blacks are super dark, which gives great contrast.

And I even played a few games of The Show on it when I watched the house while they were out of town last year, and the lack of lag on it compared to my tv was drastic. It took about 3 games for me to adjust and not be early on literally everything (my TV is like 12 years old and has horrible lag).

No doubt the C2 is the better TV, but it's also $600 more for the 55" compared to the C1 55''. If you have the money then go with the C2 for sure. But if price is an issue, and you still don't have a next gen system, then you can get the C1 and a PS5 or Series X for the same price. And you would still be playing on one of the best TV's on the market. You really wouldn't know what you're missing.

The prices now on the C1 are so good for a quality OLED, that's hard to pass up for 30% more brightness, especially if you play games and watch movies in a dark room. And being able to buy a next gen system with a C1 if you don't have a system for the price of the C2 is the better value. At least in my opinion.

There is also a way to make the C1 a little brighter. But if people are interested in that, they would have to do some research.

That's one way to look at it, and probably the better option if you have neither and want both unless you have really deep pockets.

Yeah, I was just throwing it out there because I know a lot of people are looking into an OLED because of the positives of one when it comes to gaming and I know a lot of people are still playing on the PS4 and Xbox One and a lot are probably wanting a next gen system.

And especially the LG OLEDs because of all the great gaming features they have.
