    Scheduled to pitch

When I have a reliever warmed up, I'll have him set to "ready and waiting", then I'll schedule him to pitch next inning. But then about half the time he has a huge chunk of his stamina missing! He had full stamina before I warmed him up. What am I doing wrong?
Would the lady who left her nine kids at Wrigley Field please pick them up immediately? They are beating the Cubs 4-0 in the 7th inning!

    Re: Scheduled to pitch

It's possible he's throwing too many warm up pitches. I believe when set to "ready and waiting" they throw a warm up pitch for every in game pitch. So if you don't time it right it's possible he's pitched a full inning in the pen.

      Re: Scheduled to pitch

There is a trick to get a pitcher in without him losing any stamina. Do the following:

Stretch and Toss the pitcher you want to come in. His ready bar will stop at halfway. Whether it is between innings or after a few batters.

Next once he is halfway and want him to come in, change him to warm up.

Immediately call a mound visit. Do not throw a single pitch to the hitter. During the mound visit replace the current pitcher with the one in the bullpen.

He will come in at about 3/4 ready.

His 8 warm up pitches will get him to full ready and he will be at full stamina.

Been doing this for a few years, since 20, and it works perfectly each time. Just have to time it correctly.

I never use keep pitcher warm or what not. Because the above way works without needing it.

You could have your pitcher stretch and Toss 2 innings and will he will never go above half ready and will never lose stamina.

My rule of thumb is to not start warming up a pitcher until you have two outs while currently on the mound. If you happen to have a long inning of batting, you can set him to "ready and waiting", or sit him down. He will lose a little bit of stamina if you sit him down, but you should be able to warm him back up with the warm up pitches that you get when you send him in.

I just keep pitchers throwing for no more than 2 innings. They always come in ready.

My approach is, I never schedule to pitch.
Start of the inning, I stretch toss till I get either 2 outs, or a chance a DP may happen. Then I warm up for one batter and then set him to ready and waiting till the start of the next inning and then call for the reliever. Ive never seen my pitcher come in with any stamina loss
