First time officially posting on OS, so bear with me. I wanted to start a project where all 30 MLB teams have 0 overall Joe Randoms + 1 legend from the team's past (position players only). For example Alan Trammell was Detroit's legend, George Brett was Kansas City's legend, etc. etc. I want to see how teams can compete and develop new teams through the draft. I would mostly be overseeing Detroit's ball club from afar and not really playing any games - at least not for a half dozen years or so.
The first season went well. Everything went according to plan and most teams finished right around the .500 mark since they were all so similar. I made it through the draft with selecting players that would all obviously make an impact among a team full of 0 overall Joe Randoms (and so did the rest of the league). All fine and dandy, this is fun!
We move to the off-season and this is where I foresee some problems starting to develop. Basically every single 0 overall Joe Random retires due to "inability". I noticed everything went smoothly through Spring Training and was manually tracking the development and stats of my rookies in Excel (because I'm a nerd). We're ready for season number two and our future as a ball club!
THEN, like I had worried, the entire franchise soft locks since all the Joe Randoms retire and most teams cannot meet the minimum player requirement. I cannot simulate past the first game, I cannot manually play the game, I cannot simulate to draft, etc. All this time and effort I put into making this project has come to an end and we can't even get past season two. I was sad that I could not watch an entirely new MLB take shape before my eyes and have not come to any resolutions.
If you have any workarounds that you can think of please share! I don't want to give up on this project yet!
