    0 Overall + 1 Legend League Project

    Hello Everyone!

First time officially posting on OS, so bear with me. I wanted to start a project where all 30 MLB teams have 0 overall Joe Randoms + 1 legend from the team's past (position players only). For example Alan Trammell was Detroit's legend, George Brett was Kansas City's legend, etc. etc. I want to see how teams can compete and develop new teams through the draft. I would mostly be overseeing Detroit's ball club from afar and not really playing any games - at least not for a half dozen years or so.

The first season went well. Everything went according to plan and most teams finished right around the .500 mark since they were all so similar. I made it through the draft with selecting players that would all obviously make an impact among a team full of 0 overall Joe Randoms (and so did the rest of the league). All fine and dandy, this is fun!

We move to the off-season and this is where I foresee some problems starting to develop. Basically every single 0 overall Joe Random retires due to "inability". I noticed everything went smoothly through Spring Training and was manually tracking the development and stats of my rookies in Excel (because I'm a nerd). We're ready for season number two and our future as a ball club!

THEN, like I had worried, the entire franchise soft locks since all the Joe Randoms retire and most teams cannot meet the minimum player requirement. I cannot simulate past the first game, I cannot manually play the game, I cannot simulate to draft, etc. All this time and effort I put into making this project has come to an end and we can't even get past season two. I was sad that I could not watch an entirely new MLB take shape before my eyes and have not come to any resolutions.

If you have any workarounds that you can think of please share! I don't want to give up on this project yet!

that stinks, but still, an interesting project.
unless you kept a previous franchise save from before players retired and can edit enough players just long enough to get past retirement, then edit back, I'm not sure anything else can be done. sorry

Perhaps instead of 0 rated joe randoms maybe you should have all joe randoms rated like maybe 50 so they don’t all retire. Maybe that would work.

That's a good point. Maybe I'll start tackling that little by little. I wish SDS made things like this a little bit easier. Instead I have to go in to edit 40ish players for 30 teams and that might not even solve the issue. Thanks for the suggestion, will report back!

yeah, I always just assumed the Studio coded it where exactly 210 players would retire every year and replaced by the 210 players drafted each June
at least that's the way they should probably do it IMO

You not only need to make them 50 overall at least but they need to be in their low 20s. I would even recommend doing 60 overall. The game will start retiring players around 27-29 years old with low overalls.

You are going to have to do it for all 93 players, well 92 to keep the league in balance.

Yeah, a lot of us roster makers have been asking for many years for an actual roster/player creation utility. It will probably never happen though.

Would it help to give these 0 ovr players an 8 year contract at the minimum to get them to stay on the rosters and give you time to build around?

d'oh! why didn't I think of? I did that years ago to keep Bartolo from retiring. I only wish Jamie Moyer had made it to ps4 Shows and carry-over saves. I'd have gotten him 300 wins if he would have had to play until his SS checks started arriving lol

but yeah, long multi-year contracts is the way to go

I bet tom brady has retired on madden for the past 7 years too after 1 season.

if we could edit for everyone that would help. just pick players that suck make them 50 years old so they can 'retire' de age the good players you wanna keep start season 2 then fix the age back up of the young players who then become their real age again. lol be fun to break the game this way

I want someone to start every team going 81-81 project and pull it off to see what happens to the
                    game.

sim like no tomorrow and hope every home team wins lol just keep reloading to make sure the home team wins.

if Manferd the Impatient had his way, if there were a 30-way tie for first place (or last place depending on your perspective), a 30-way tie Manferd saves time by having a HR Derby determines who the World Champions are lol
