Franchise contract logic still needs so much work

This has just been so bad ever since they switched to real contracts. It seems like players are still coded to ask for money on the old contract system, and almost never expect the proper amount of money in free agency.

    The problem is two fold:

    1) young players are to willing to give up future control for piss poor money. I did a test with the Baltimore orioles and was able to sign Grayson Rodrigues for 7 years 14 million (Aav 2 million a season) after the first season. And I was able to extend Daley rutschman for 7 years 28 million (Aav 4 million). I know the game has advanced to where teams are locking up younger players earlier now I.e. Fernando tatis JR and wander Franco. But young players should be much more wary of giving up control without us as GM’s giving up a little more.

1A) I will say this is not a problem for already established “young” superstars. As Juan Soto was only willing to sign a 10 year deal at 402 million total. Which is probably not far from being that unrealistic when you compare it to what other young stars like Tatis got.

    2) Veteran superstars are still not expecting that much money on the open market. Tim Anderson the best shortstop on the market was able to be signed for 16.9 million for 5 years after a really good season. And the next year Cody Berlinger the top center fielder on the market was only asking for 14.9 for 7 years after an all star season. These are top players at premium positions not even asking for anything in the 100 million range.

2A) The reason I think this is happening is because CPU teams are low balling free agents. So your “low ball” offer winds up being the best offer of them all. So you can steal these players away for peanuts in free agency. There really isn’t much of a bidding war whatsoever when every team in the league is trying to sign free agents for 40% of the money they are asking for and at half the years.

Just a few of my thoughts

I know for my long term franchises, I have to resist the temptation to low ball the young players, just because I can doesn't mean I should

I try to keep the contracts to what I think would happen in real to an extent.
    JUUUUUUUST A BIT OUTSIDE

Lol. Yeah. I had to actively stop trying to screw my top prospects for the longevity of my franchise. It’s thought though lol

This for sure. I’ve never hesitated to just pay a guy what I think he’s worth even if it’s double or triple the asking-price. The difference between $1M/$5M/$10M per year guys is pretty obvious, I just give them the money that makes sense and have never really had any budgetary issues in this game anyway.

That said I’m all for this kind of stuff getting tweaked to the gills, I’m sure they’re looking at it.
        Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.
