I’m a met fan too and I feel the same. I cannot play with the Mets. I’m too bias and need to reflect real baseball. In usually pick an American League team I do not know much about. There is no emotional attachment to the team.

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
I am trying hard this year to fully adopt the “own universe” approach. I used to care a lot about being true to life and would try to mimic it. But this year I’m letting it loose and seeing what happens

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
My problem is I can’t separate reality from my franchise so I end up mimicking moves the Mets make in real life instead of running the franchise the way I’d want to. Then outside of the team I control I get frustrated when players around the league don’t develop like in real lifeComment

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
Ive been a Met Fan forever. Ive never played a franchise as the Mets in 20 yrs of playing. I like playing as The Mariners so I play against AL teams I dont see often.
I play as the Marlins too so I can play against the Mets. Its more of a challenge to try to beat them than it is to win as them. And the Marlins are a tougher team to build and keep winning with.Comment

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
I think I understand what you're getting at. I always seem to last longer doing franchises with teams other than the Braves. Also, I hate doing franchises with teams that are already loaded because it gets boring fast and since the Braves are loaded, well, yeah, it gets boring fast. I like the challenge of trying to build up a franchise. Also, I like to expand my horizons around to different teams. I've done franchises with the Reds, Pirates, Marlins, Rays, A's over the years to name a few. When the lockout was happening I started up a new franchise with the Tigers for the first time ever on 20. Was so much fun.Atlanta Braves

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
Yep, still way too unbalanced. There's been talk about MLB reducing the regular season since they keep adding playoff games so I made a proposal based on a 158 game schedule that is about as balanced as one could possibly get. This is what it looks like using the Braves as my example team and who they would play (I came up with this before MLB announced they would be going to an NBA style schedule of playing every team once per season).
Play each team in your division 12 times (6 home, 6 away). Play every other team in your league 8 times (4 home, 4 away). Play every team in our assigned interleague division 6 times (3 home, 3 away). Adds up to 158 games.
I'm gonna have to come up with a new proposal based on playing every team now.Atlanta Braves

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
I don't play franchise in the Show but this year I might finally start one..with the Mets, of course! I couldn't picture doing one with any other team.
when it comes to Madden, I'm always the Jets but I can venture out and start one with another team due to having more knowledge of the roster and players in the NFL than the MLB.
On Madden I always play as the Falcons because the Falcons always suck so the only time I ever see a winner with them is on Madden. LOL!Atlanta Braves

That is what I always do which is why I never start a franchise with injuries. I put all injured players on the roster and roll with it.Atlanta Braves

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
I do the same with injuries-I start every team in the league with the complete team no injuries and go from there.
I have to say that right now I find a franchise with Bacons rosters to be the best
I like knowing nobody at the beginning and trying to learn the whole league with no preconceived ideas about a team or a player-much more fun and interesting.Comment

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
I get why it bothers people but I'm definitely in more of the "my own universe" crowd. I actually find it interesting to compare the differences in stats between real players and their video game counterparts.NCAA: Kentucky Wildcats

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
I can only play with my team. I’ve tried to use others but I can’t make it any further than a month into the season. Just no connection and I get bored. I do agree it’s harder to make trades though when you have an emotional attachment to certain players.

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
A few years ago I was playing franchise with my Jays. I had an amazing game where I came back in the 9th to walk it off with a home run with Jose Bautista.
I went to bed overjoyed.
Next day I go to work and ask a coworker if he had seen the big comeback last night.
The Jays hadn’t even played the night before. I had gotten real life and video game life confused.
Ever since I try to stay away from the Jays.
I usually start a franchise with them to try them out but my serious day to day franchise is always another team.

Re: Anyone else hate playing with their favorite team ?
Right.
MLB's Proposal = 56 Division Games, 60 Non Division Games
My Proposal = 48 Division Games, 80 Non Division Games
IMO mine is more balanced because division has less of an impact on which teams make the playoffs and moves that impact towards the teams in your league as a whole. Under my proposal I believe you would get a better representation of teams in the playoffs and less teams making it just because they play in a weak division. Look at the NL West vs. the NL East at the moment. All 5 teams in the NL West are currently over .500. In the NL East only the Mets are currently over .500. That is a massive difference in SOS. I'm trying to limit that SOS impact.
Lastly, as I previously stated, my proposal was done prior to the news coming out about MLB playing every team in an NBA style schedule. Now that they're doing that there's no way each team can make 2 trips to each city in their league like used to be the case prior to 1993. That was a big component of my schedule as well. I know you're probably thinking playing 2-game series wouldn't work but it used to be quite common back in the old days.Atlanta Braves
