Any tips for pitching on hall of fame. I’m playing all 162 with my giants using armors sliders. But every time I pitch with my ace he gets shelled. Logan Webb has a 6.00 era and has given up 14 hr in like 50 ip

Throw the pitch that coordinates with the catchers finger "most" of the time, inside / outside based on his hand movements, change up the height and speed of the ball to keep them guessing and DO NOT be afraid to throw a ball on purpose. Always aim to paint the edges, some end up meatballs and some end up way outside, but that's just the way it is.
On the off chance you don't know the catchers fingers meaning, 1 finger is the X / A button and then go counter clockwise.

Webb throws a sinker - the most useless pitch vs the AI in the game (so bad, I refer to them as "stinkers").

My advice is to either:

1. Trade him
2. Edit that pitch to a 2-seamer
3. Don't use it as your main pitch, but rather like a pitch to change the mix up.

You can try to keep them low, but they WILL get crushed at some point. (I'm sure folks using other pitching interfaces may have a bit more luck...but still)

A few questions:

What pitching interface do you use?

What are your pitching sliders?

How exactly is Webb getting shelled? Is there a particular pitch that always gets hit? Are you hanging breaking balls over the plate?

One piece of generic advice:

Challenge poor hitters but don't be afraid to walk good hitters.

If you're facing a hitter with low power, you can afford to pitch to contact a little more since you're unlikely to get rocked. I'd keep the Sinker because you'll get plenty of groundouts against hitters like that.

If you're facing a big power bat, avoid the strike zone like the plague. It's better to walk the guy than to give up a home run, even if it is just a solo shot.

I don't think they are useless, but you have to learn to pitch off of them and at times put them about belt/thigh high but far off the plate just to change hitters eye level and see the pitch in a different location.

I have Dakota Hudson who's #1 pitch is a sinker, but he also throws a 4 seam fastball. The key is to use the two in "unison" meaning throw the 4 seamer down in the zone like you would a sinker and at times elevate the sinker, slightly, but keep it out of the zone just to get the hitter to see something different.

I'm not sure what pitching mechanic you use, but I use meter, so I try to throw the 4 seamer and sinker with the same "power" to insinuate pitching from same arm angle so pitch comes from "same tunnel"

Depending on the obvious variables they can have disgusting fade & sink & work just fine. Kinda weird take tbh.

Well...I didn't say "useless", just the "most useless" (totally teasing with the semantics)

So I agree with everything here. I also like how you're using the sinker with Hudson - if I was forced to use them, that's how I would....as a mix pitch vs a primary you throw half the time....that's kinda what I was alluding to. (As a real life reference, looks like Webb mixes his sinker/change-up equally...which makes sense).

The other issue (more game-specific); sinkers don't work as well (IMO) for classic pitching (which I am sure the OP is using); the RNG makes them less tenable because you're just about as likely to miss with them up as you are down. Combine that with those people who use sliders and it is likely even worse.

Yeah I do use classic pitching. I’m in June in my chise. So I’m going to switch it to a 2-seam and see how he does. I might just have to trade him if he doesn’t perform. It’s weird though I have succes with Alex Cobb and he has the same pitch mix pretty much

i like to us A&S sliders with meter pitching and I tick the control down 1 extra point to compensate for the accuracy for timing the meter. It gives me a little extra control and i can tell whether the pitch is going to miss the second i throw it which to me is more like knowing if you pitched and released the ball properly or not.

I pitch on Legend, using the CLASSIC interface, but I would think these tips would translate well on Hall of Fame too. I currently am 88 games into my Tiger's franchise, and have a team ERA of 3.06

#1. Mix up pitches and speeds. Don't fall into a pattern, because the CPU will pick up on it. Don't be afraid to start an at bat with an off speed pitch.

#2. For whatever reason, I have had more success pitching to the outside part of the plate, than I have had pitching inside. (Last year was just the exact oppisite). If you are going to throw inside, make sure it is off the plate. I will throw 4 seamers inside off the plate, to try to induce a swing and miss, or to jam the hitter, but I do so sparingly. Cutters that cut inside off the plate seem to work ok as well. But for the most part, I try to stay to the outside part of the plate.

#3. Don't be afraid to walk a hitter. A walk is better than a home run. Or a double. Or a triple.

#4. Don't "Waste" pitches on 0-2 and 1-2 counts. By "wasting" a pitch, I mean throw a pitch that is so far out of the strike zone that the hitter won't think about swinging. This doesn't mean throw the pitches over the plate on those counts, but throw a pitch that serves a purpose. Maybe a cutter/4 seamer inside under the hands of the hitter, one that will either result in a swing and miss, a jam shot, or taken for a ball. But this pitch will set up a breaking ball away off the plate.

Also, don't be scared to throw a fastball low and away on an 0-2 or 1-2 count. The hitter will probably be expecting something off speed and out of the strike zone. I have gotten many a called third strike on borderline fastballs on 0-2 or 1-2 counts, because the hitter wasn't expecting it, and couldn't pull the trigger.



As for the "sinker" issue, I think part of the problem is that, for whatever reason, the sinker doesn't dive enough. But it can be an effective pitch.

I use the Tigers, and they have both Gregory Soto, and Michael Fulmer who have a Sinker/Slider combo. Both also have a 4 seam fastball, but it is their third pitch.

With Soto, I am 4-0 with 33 saves in 40 innings. 0.90 ERA.

With Fulmer, I am 2-1 with 6 saves in 37.2 innings. 1.67 ERA

What I do with their sinker, is I keep it low, and outside. When I throw high, I throw the 4 seamer. I throw a lot of balls with the sinker, but when they make contact, it is usually into the ground, or hit weakly somewhere. Rarely do they square up the pitch. (I have given up 4 home runs total with them in almost 80 innings)

Neither per say, but it leans towards where the arrows end. It depends on how long you hold the button too.

Thank you guys for explaining the Sinker. This pitch gets rocked by the CPU 80-90 percent of the time. I feel that by throwing this pitch, you are basically giving your opponent life back into a blowout game because they crush it so often. But I'll try and do better next go around.
