Newbie Here: How can I re-live the homer era 1998 onwards?

    Hi everyone,

Long time baseball fan, finally decided to purchase a Playstation 5 as well as xbox series S (which I had prior for Halo and nba2k).

Anyways, I wanted some of your expert advice. My most fondest memory of Baseball was watching Big Mac, Sammy Sosa and Ken Griffey Jr back in the late 90's slug out homers. I so badly want to go back into that time and place and play it out.

Can you please share which MLB The Show should I buy? and what Roster would be best for this.

I have found the thread compiling the Retro Roster but to my surprise I did not see anything for the years 1998-2002 for PS5/Xbox Series S consoles (compatibility).

Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Thank you guys

MLB 20 is going to be your best option for classic rosters.
Go to the roster page and check out Armor and Swords list of classic rosters

Yeah I saw the list and you’re right 20 would be. Is it like NBA2k where the roster downloads are disabled as servers shut down? Or would it still be available if I manage to get MLB 20 for PlayStation 5?

Server was still available last night.
I would get a USB drive after you get the game and download and save the ones you want to it.

Yes sir the servers are still available I think up till MLB the show 19 they still are. And you should just go through download every single roster you want and save it for when the servers do shut down

Okay thank you guys. And just to be sure, I can play MLB show 20 on PS5? I have seen copies available for the game going for very cheap. But not sure if the disk version would work.

I've got MLBTS 20 installed on my PS5 and I used the disk. Short story long, I tried to use the migration / import utility from my PS 4 Pro and for some reason the game file got corrupted but my franchise save and settings files made it. So I reinstalled the game with the disk, no problem.

And it is playable. There are some very well respected members here that prefer 20 on the PS5 to both 21 and 22.

Add another vote for MLB 20. It's fantastic on a PS5. With Armor & Swords sliders I've had the best hit variety I've ever seen in video game baseball.

Right now, the disk version is on sale on best buys website for $6.49 as a clearance item.

Thanks! I ended up buying the digital version off the playstation store just before seeing your reply BUT I'm so excited to play with retro rosters. Hopefully bring Seattle a World Series title with Griffey and A-Rod still on board.

That's amazing. That is how most of the nba2k community on PC is right now, we prefer nba2k20 on PC as it has the best collection of retro mod's outside of 2k14.

Thank you man, I am downloading MLBTS 20 right now. Cannot wait to play with the sliders you mentioned and the retro rosters.
