    MLB The Show: An Appreciation

Before I start, I want to make clear that I don’t think this is a perfect game. The CPU bullpen/lineup/team building logic needs work, stadium creator still has room to improve and custom uniforms aren’t nearly what they should be.

But holy hell, the game captures the sport so much better than Madden captures football, FIFA captures soccer and NHL captures hockey. The immersion with all of the unique windups, stances and swings is tremendous, and the game itself feels like baseball. I was playing an October afternoon playoff game and the shadows and light really captured the postseason aesthetic.

Compared to what else is out there, the game is on another level. Maybe that’s damning it with faint praise when put up against EA’s games, but I always find myself playing The Show more than anything else even when fall titles come out. This year will be no different.

(I haven’t played 2K yet this year but I never love the gameplay.)

Agreed. MLB The Show is essentially the only sports game I play nowadays (I do dabble in the golf and racing games), but as for the major sports, its the only one. I try Madden each year in the trial but lose interest quickly as the game just feels in such a big hurry to me. I don't care much for the NBA these days and just don't care about hockey or soccer enough to give the games a try.

So I can't say that MLBTS is the best at capturing its sport because its fair and unfounded for me personally to say so, but I can say, and will say, that it captures the sport of baseball so well. Playing the game, where it matters, the game feels authentic and true to its sport.

My experience the CPU hits just fine. Just finished the AAA All-Star game where the CPU put up 8 runs without ever hitting the ball over the fence.

I absolutely agree this game emulates its sport better than any other title. I’m not even a mega baseball fan in real life, prefer hockey, yet every year I play the Show way more than NHL.

            MLB The Show: An Appreciation

The Show has always been a first class simulation of it’s sport.

This year if you are a true old school hoops fan you owe it to yourself to pick up NBA2K23 for the PS5 or X.

Simply incredible gameplay, presentation and depth. The amount of love and detail that went into their “Era” My League mode is unlike anything I have ever seen a developer do for a console sports game…..including the beloved Show series.

The show is amazing this year. Most fun I’ve probably ever had in a baseball game.

However I think NBA 2k slightly edges MLB this year. The gameplay is really in a good place this year and the eras mode is remarkable. I’m even having great fun in the wnba because the gameplay is top notch. There’s just so much depth to the game overall that make it the game of the year for me.

                  NHL - Los Angeles Kings
                  MLS - Los Angeles Galaxy
                  EPL - Newcastle United

Re: MLB The Show: An Appreciation

I haven't had so much fun with a franchise since the college football days. I just finished year 1 of my Pirates franchise, playing every game with quick counts.... After being sellers at the trade deadline and filling my lineup with mostly rookies we caught fire finished the season on an 11 game winning streak and beat the Brewers in game 163 to win the NL Central, then lost to the Mets in 4 games. It was a blast, I'm already about 9 games into year two. I did the Madden trial, I didn't even make it past the Madden intro game, it just all felt so.....stale I guess? I have a serious itch for football, but reading about all the glitches and workarounds, it's not worth it....I haven't touched a setting on the show since about May. Is the AI management perfect? No. Does the CPU throw too many complete games when simulating? Sure, is any of that game breaking? Not even close. My favorite part of the show: Ratings matter!!! I HAD to move my slugging SS to DH because I couldn't tolerate his defense any longer.....at the same time, I have light hitting LF because I like his range in PNC park. There is actual strategy and impactful roster management..... I love soccer, the premier league on a Saturday morning is one of my favorite things, and I'll be watching West Ham today on the Europa League, but fifa is horrible ,every match is exactly the same. Tactics don't matter at all.

My only concern with the show is, it they don't bring back year to year saves or make a major jump in franchise mode,n it's gonna be a while before I buy a new one, even the revamped playoff structure won't be enough to get me to abandon this Pirates franchise.

If you have a PlayStation, I highly recommend PES 2020 or 2021. I enjoy them much more than FIFA and found them to be very simulation. I’m not a huge soccer fan so take that with a grain of salt but even I know the recent FIFA product isn’t simulation. I say only PlayStation because you can’t use mods on Xbox and to me you have to download the authentic teams and player mods on PES to make it enjoyable.

That's such a low bar, I think we could do with a better compliment for MLB The Show than that

While I'm mostly a football fan, this game is so good that it's gotten me back into baseball in a way I haven't been since I was a kid. This iteration is the first MLBTS I've played since the PS2 days (07). With Madden faltering, I'll try to immerse myself into my franchise.

THE best sports game ever. (with respect to NBA2k, I need to check out this Era deal everyone is raving about)

I don't play real-time seasons, so its getting stale for me.

I want something like OOTP, where I can pick up a season at any point in history.

I know that isn't going to happen. They will go the Madden route, and focus on their card game.
