    Timing Hitting vs. Zone Hitting

Timing hitting is new on MLB 22, correct?

Which do you prefer and feel works best? Thank you!

Timing hitting isn't really new. It's just Directional without using the Left Stick.

I enjoy timing/directional more. Zone is just frustrating and unfun at times, and doesn't really replicate hitting either (it's more akin to catching the ball than hitting it). I've never enjoyed cursor hitting. So I use directional (but often don't use the left stick, so timing). I think it's a lot more fun and consistent.

Re: Timing Hitting vs. Zone Hitting

I timing for me, i like to have the players attributes/skills matter more than mine! and for pitching i think its called classic that I use, I choose the pitch, then I choose the location, and hit X (PS4). pitchers ability/fatigue/confidence is much more of a factor then controller skill. just my preference

Re: Timing Hitting vs. Zone Hitting

I prefer zone hitting. I like the additional challenge of needing to square the ball up with the PCI alongside timing the pitch. I think it adds an element of risk/reward when looking for a pitch in a certain zone, only having to react if its not there, especially with two strikes. I enjoy the trying to think with the pitcher in terms of how he's pitching me in a certain at-bat, game, and feel rewarded when I win the battle.

Same, I feel timing is too easy and all determined by the game. I rather have control.

I use directional but only actually influence a direction in specific situations, so I’m essentially playing on timing for majority of AB’s. I like the added strategy of directional, but the game also realistically penalizes you by shrinking the timing window when you want to influence direction.

Zone hitting for me. Timing is too easy.

I hope SDS makes it for next year that when you play an online rated game both users use the same hitting mechanic. Like add an extra tab on the search menu under pitching and hitting difficulty.

It’s blatantly obvious when my opponent is using timed hitting online because you can get them to swing and miss they will make contact on everything and I’ll have zero strikeouts. You can then tell when they are not using timed hitting because I can actually make them swing and miss the ball and get strikeouts.

I don’t care what people want to use but make me be able to play with other zone hitting users.

is that a fact? if in directional and we choose to go the other way, out time window shrinks?

IMO one of the best posts in the history of OS forums. I will add that, in my experience, recent editions have neutered the benefits of *always* choosing an influence that OP states.

I've always used zone+analog+stride...super challenging and engaging.

Ive read the whole thread, the op has not purchased the 21 version, and seems clear he also has not for 22. he has stated even by the 20 version. his writings for the 19 version dont have the same emphasis, esp holding the stick down. so not sure how things might have changed for 21, and then for 22.

his findings are not directly fact, they were never validated by scea when he wrote them, but late in the thread there seemed to be a quote from scea who stopped short of saying he was wrong, giving a reference to stick driving versus auto.

for what I wanted clarification on, which was if i can quote myself

'is that a fact? if in directional and we choose to go the other way, out time window shrinks?'

well from what I read it does not shrink. at least for 19, the timing window occurs 'later' for going the other way. so good contact to the ball to go the other way, happens if you press swing later than normal.

conversly if you set to pull, your perfect timing is if you press your swing early. but of course the best chance at the pull result after that, is if the pitch was not something like a outside pitch.

I like Zone but I turn off the PCI.

Perhaps I'm not giving Directional a fair shake, but in past games it always made a problem out of power players hitting more home runs than normal and non-power hitters not hitting as many as they should. As long as "hold up for better chance of home run" is a thing, it's not something that I want to influence myself with.
