Yes, they would turn people off if the say it’s gone forever. But at least people will forget it and carry on.

I do wish they would say we are in the process of revamping the game and once we get that updated, Y2Y will be able to return.
I don't think they believe its gone forever. They understand that there is a portion of their customer base that wants it to return. However, that same customer base, and the franchise customer base as a whole, want to see significant improvements to franchise mode, and unfortunately having to build while accounting for Y2Y saves is a difficult task, that results in an extremely slow process.

I do believe personally that Y2Y saves will return, but not before SDS gets franchise mode to the point that they, and us, feel that it is upon a solid and durable foundation.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I know they addressed the technical issues in a video last year.

It is likely still on the FAQ because it gets asked a lot still. I think the devs are holding out hope they can return it to the game as well.

In the end, I do think it is gone but they are telling people before they pre-order so I would rather see the "no" than guess later.

I also don't think they will use the word revamped. They did a few years ago and got a lot of backlash.

Y2Y does not bother me so much but I do feel a lot of people in this thread are going to be let down big time. I know everyone is hoping that means they got a huge overhaul to franchise but I think the only changes you will see on franchise will be those you expect to see

        New playoff format
        New schedule format
and maybe they add in that cool FA signing thing they added in 22 in march to october

None of those are really even changes they are just how they do things these days

SDS gonna have to show me something amazing to get me to buy 23. its gonna be hard to let my created roster go and rebuild it all over again.

While I want all this ish, the roster aspect does pain me the most. I think it should be like a requirement in sports games to be able to bring rosters from one game to the next.

And I don't even think that's me being blinded by OS being a great resource for that stuff.

Even beyond the fictional roster component, it just seems silly that like classic rosters of the real '82 season or whatever can't be carried over to the next version. It's such a nice added value thing for consumers to have access to that stuff in the vault year to year, and it would incentivize more people to keep making stuff and keep it updated.
I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.

Man, it’s so strange. Usually I’m over the moon excited about a new MLB The Show game. This year, I have not one ounce of hype in me.

I’ll still buy the game because I love baseball and it’s great in terms of gameplay, but it’s just become so stagnant over the years, it doesn’t get me excited like it used too.

This game is the reason I left Xbox for PlayStation and I feel like there’s been no innovation, no passion or desire to do something groundbreaking.

There needs to be major changes in franchise and RTTS to catch my attention again.

I am the same way no hype about it cause I know its just going to be the same. But like you I love baseball so I buy it. You and I are part of the problem we give them money anyway so they do not try harder lol

They need competition. When *you know who* was around is when The Show was at its innovative peak. Since *their* collapse and disappearance — it’s been mostly status quo from SDS. In that case, mostly everyone (the consumer) loses and the product becomes stagnant with little to no hope on the horizon that something great will happen.

If anything, root for competition. Same happened with Madden. You pop one in and can hardly tell what year the game is based on the visuals and gameplay. Rosters are the giveaway. Could be anywhere from 18’-23’. The Show is getting to that stage as well. It is what it is until someone else comes and challenges.

First I will say I have been playing and buying the game every year since 2012. Before that it was Tony LaRussa baseball. In fact I bought my first Playstation specifically to play this game and it is the only game I play on the Playstation. (I am now up to a PS5). Over the years I have happily watched the game progress.

The Institution of Y2Y saves was a big development which ultimately has resulted in a vast archive of historic rosters created by the community which continually draws some dedicated franchise players back to MLB 20, the last year with carry over saves. Even today one sees references to MLB 20 in these forums. At the same time the database of first and last names sound files kept growing from year to year. The nice people at SDS even added some names in response to requests from members of the community. By MLB 20 the game had reached the high point for historic roster creators.

With MLB 21 Y2Y saves were gone. With MLB 22 and a new broadcast team the number of last name sound files was reduced to about one third. Two thirds of the names were lost including my last name Boudreau, presumably included because of Lou Boudreau.

In regard to Y2Y saves, the FAQ lumps them together even though we are talking about three distinctly different things; Y2Y saves for RTTS, Y2Y saves for franchise, and Y2Y saves for rosters. I have a hard time understanding why there are no Y2Y saves for rosters when the structure of the roster has not changed. In my opinion, Y2Y saves for rosters is by far the most important of the three. Until it returns we cannot expect members of the community to spend time creating historic rosters. It is just not worth the time.

As to the first and last name sound files, the current number with MLB 22 is 1285 first names and 1552 last names. I will be very interested to see if this number increases with MLB 23 and by how much. Will SDS again build up this database like before or will the number remain the same? We will find that out in March. Fingers crossed that it grows significantly again.

While some may never admit it, this is exactly right.

Competition is good for the consumer. Physics, minor gameplay improvements and money grabbing modes at some point are not, and have not (for years), been nearly enough to keep me around lately. I bought every Show title since 2007 and stopped a couple years ago because of the total lack thereof in the innovation department. Stadium creator does nothing for me.

Deeply sad about it not being on PC again this year. Another year of playing on this PS4 that sounds like a Boeing 737.

I also echo the previous comments the hype is just not there for me this year. I'm sure they'll have just enough changes to Franchise to pull me back in, I'll buy Day 1 and then hardly touch it until we have a usable Franchise roster. Same story different year.

A tiny violin plays in the background....
