How do others handle a fantasy franchise draft when....

You are only planning to play one season?

I feel like I have to hold back in my draft, because I can build a win now "super team", and not focus on developing young players and creating a strong farm system. Whereas the cpu is in it for the long haul and is drafting young guys to develop.

Feels like I give myself too much of a roster advantage.

    Thoughts?

Yeah I've done a few of those and the CPU does definitely draft for the win now AND the build the future strategy. A lot of young high potential guys go early. And it doesn't like to take older guys with large contracts.

One option is to simulate the draft so you get what you get and have to try to win with it, so your draft and the CPU drafts are basically the same strategy......

Not a bad idea...thanks for the idea.

It'll never happen, but how great would it be if there was a way to set the cpu controlled teams draft strategy prior to the draft (win now/fast, develop/slow etc.)

Yeah it would be nice to have those options. I'm still pretty impressed with the CPU draft strategy, even though sometimes it overdrafts some positions and not enough of another. But for the most part it drafts pretty well.

It's funny because I feel like I've spent way too much time referencing NHL '23 today, mainly because I hate giving EA credit when there's so many parts of their games that are in absolute shambles, but the fact that teams are all set up in their trade blocks as buyers, sellers, conservative buyers, etc. is a pretty outstanding feature helps keep the directions that teams are trying to go in somewhat realistic. (Their trade engine is also a broken POS though).

Gameplay is nothing like real hockey either. I have tried and tried with that EA series. It's awesome if you are OK with it being a video game with very little elements of sim.

I agree! They draft great....UNLESS you just want to play one season, then their strategy doesn't match up to the users. Is what it is.

I wish they'd bring back single season mode....that would likely mean the draft logic would change and they'd be about winning now.

Yeah they drastically improved it on 20 and beyond. The logic is damn good now for Fantasy draft.

Dowie they actually have plenty of competitive teams in my Statis Pro Yankees season we just started up. Some teams focused on youth but there were plenty of well balanced teams in the league.

Just have fun with it. Try drafting your own first.

For a one and done season I just draft my 40 man and simulate the rest.

all I know is, in 2021, Keston Hiura just kept not developing into a good hitter in my franchises, and it was driving me nuts because he was obviously en route to becoming a 5-category stud. Bichette, Tucker types would improve each year and ultimately be great, but Hiura sucked. No matter what.

I totally agree with drafting your own 40-man roster, and letting cpu handle my org depth.

Since I play 1 and done fantasy draft seasons.....depth beyond the 40 is relatively unimportant.

                      Thanks for your input Armor!

I noticed the CPU draft logic as well, and was like "well played, Show." It's one area where the Franchise logic is actually good. But I also have never gotten through a season and would draft all the best current-day players. There are other areas of Franchise that are really good as well, it's not a terrible mode or anything. Just could use a few key improvements to be really great.

Taking out season mode and that 1 team vs. 1 team mode where they tracked your stats are things I miss.

I've noticed the same thing about drafts, where you have to actively try NOT to draft a super team. I wish they'd post your budget and keep a tally of what you're spending too.

I Like to draft the 40 man and then sim the rest, but then the sim seems to always pick up 1 or 2 studs that I was avoiding. To combat this, I usually draft 2 teams, with one being a throw away squad filled with the likes of the studs who usually go undrafted (but then end up on my team through the sim period). So, for all time drafts, this throw away team usually has Randy Johnson, Barry Bonds and Willie Mays, who all never seem to be drafted by the CPU.
