New gen consoles have been out long enough now where developers need to prioritize them and leave the old gen behind. They could do so much more with the power of these new consoles. Just look at how gorgeous NBA 2K looks compared to The Show.

They never even came close to maxing our the graphics on the PS4. Play something like RDR2 on PS4; if The Show looked like that, we wouldn't mind if the PS5 version was the same as the PS4.

Yeah, it turns our Kinsler was better than I thought and Wilson was not as good as I thought. Kinsler career OPS 777; Wilson career OPS 671.

The business issue is there are far more people still playing last gen consoles than new gen.

Yes at some point the forced transition will happen. However the industry as a whole is simply not there yet. Why leave all that revenue on the table by alienating a massive user base of PS4 and XBOX One and also Nintendo Switch users.

It’s a business decision not a creative one.

Exactly. Just recently we are seeing PS5s readily available . Last year at this time it was difficult to land one. I got mine from a scalper for $799.00 shortly after launch.

I totally understand that perspective, and I agreed with continuing support when consoles were impossible for most consumers to easily buy. But now it is much easier to buy a new console, and making new games as next gen exclusives would encourage sales of those new consoles. Every new console cycle always has a crossover period, but at some point there needs to be a real transition. Otherwise what is the point? Sure, keep copying and pasting with roster updates for last gen like FIFA and NBA 2K if that will satisfy those consumers, but I’d new gen games to move forward.

It's unfortunate something as fresh and welcomed as the Negro Leagues has to share space with copy and paste graphics, and quite possibly copy and paste modes. Wish Sony would invest more into growing this development team and wish the team would work on a new engine. At this point, probably can't happen until PS6...feel like I've been visually seeing the same player models and textures since PS3. I remember they incorporated new material rendering on the PS4, but we've had nothing major since. MLB's become as stagnant as FIFA and Madden.

Oh I don’t disagree. My opinion is simply the industry is not quite there yet. That may change in 2024 and in fact I anticipate it to happen in 2024. I would not be surprised if this is the last year that The Show will be too similar on PS4 vs PS5 in terms of graphical prowess and feature sets.

well, Mario Mendoza was once in as a legend, so there is always a chance Wilson could be.
I still want Bucky bleeping Dent in as a legend. if I had him, I'd play with him in my season playthroughs.
and this is where I mention Kinsler, just because I can lol

I think the big thing is that every yearly released sports game has had a development cycle that at least included a period of time where there was a console shortage. Therefore they couldn't drop last gen or they'd be out money. I could be wrong but The Show is probably the only one where the console shortage didn't occur the entire development cycle. Still, they probably had a majority of last gen worked on if not completed so they weren't going to scrap releasing it. Maybe with 2024 releases we will start seeing them skip out on last gen like PGA and NCAA are.

But I must say again, the PS4 isn't even holding them back. They haven't even approached the limits of what it's capable of. I would be surprised if we ever see a year where this game looks spectacular on PS5, even after last gen is dropped.

Yeah, I don't know where people get the idea, but it is what it is. Didn't happen when they debuted on PS3. Didn't happen when they stopped developing for PS2. Didn't happen with they debuted on PS4 and stopped PS3. Isn't going to happen with they stop developing PS4.

You can definitely see improvements all around if you were to compare, but this studio makes gradual improvements over time. There isn't going to be the "wow" moment people keep implying.

People complaining about graphics/animation updates on the new gen consoles must remember that this new gen of console was all about the console hardware technology, ie, 4K resolution better HD storage and faster load times and a jump in FPS....That's all.

Next Gen games with better graphics, creativity and design that would knock your socks off is yet to be seen or done in these new NG consoles. Reason why I skipped the higher end new $600+ consoles and settled for the cheap $300 XBOX/s console and I'm happy I did. Having a lot of fun with the Ultimate Pass and backward compatibility with older xbox games I still enjoy!

I think the biggest leap when leaving the ps3 behind were the stadiums, they were greatly improved. The outside of the stadiums is a whole other story unfortunately, that got stuck in the ps2 era. They did some touch ups here and there over the years but still pretty lackluster and takes you right out of the immersion of what the inside of the ballpark does so well in the game.

Besides that it has mostly been higher res textures and birds flying…
