Breaking balls into dirt repetition
Both timing and directional batting mechanics could not hit the ball with power swings on good timing. A few foul tips with normal swings.
Zone hitting with anchor points set to "Preset" (Like 22) performed like last year. No problems.
However, set the anchor point to "free" (which allows you to set the PCI stationary anywhere on the strike zone) came with totally different results. Blasted balls Happy Gilmore Style
UPDATE: I read the in game strategy guide and found how to produce optimal swings consistently.
The guide does mention that anchoring will covet a greater stretch of the zone than not anchoring, but it is subtle.
If you swing early, the placement of your PCI will travel upward from where you placed it, and if you swing late, the PCI will travel down.
What people are doing are anchoring bottom of the strike zone and swinging late with power swings and manipulating the PCI to reach the dirt, this allows ridiculous power on dirt pitches. They simply wait for breaking pitches low.
It's kind of ironic because people claim that users who play with Timed and Directional hitting sit on breaking pitches to crush fastballs.
This is a mess. These mechanics should not offer completely opposite approaches to hitting, especially when you have no idea what your opponent is using. Simulation wise, the Timed/Direction approach would be far more in tune to reality. The Zone Hitting approach would*
