Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

    September 15-17: FLAGSTAFF (82-68) @ ST GEORGE (75-74)
Stadium: Bank of Utah Park (Capacity: 8,877)

    September 15: Archers 7, Hops 0
    September 16: Archers 6, Hops 5
    September 17: Hops 4, Archers 0

St George, UT (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops managed to take the finale to avoid a three-game sweep to the Archers and maintain their hold on first place in the ML West as the season winds down.

St George dominated the opener, winning 7-0 behind a two-hit complete game shutout from Taylor Austin. The Archers hit three home runs as they kept their slim playoff hopes alive.

Chris Taylor got things going for the Archers in the first inning with a two run home run off of Juro Yamaguchi. A throwing error from shortstop Isaac Nettles allowed the Archers to add a run in the third to go up 3-0.

Rookie Dave Mazzoli, just called up on September 1st, hit a two-run home run in the fourth to make it 5-0. Mazzoli would go 3 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs in the game.

In the sixth Sam Robinson homered and Mazzoli lined a two-out RBI single to extend the St George lead to 7-0. Taylor Austin (9-12) went the distance for the Archers, allowing just two hits and striking out 11 without issuing a walk.

Juro Yamaguchi (9-12) took the loss. He allowed seven runs on ten hits in six innings of work. Yamaguchi was (7-3) on June 21st, but has been a liability since then, going (2-9). The Hops shelled out $58M on a three-year deal for him this past offseason.

On Saturday afternoon, the Archers rallied for a 6-5 victory. A Harper Reyes sixth inning solo home run off of Alex Farmer was the difference as St George won to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

The Hops grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second on a two-run home run from Donnie Roland, his 13th, and throwing error from catcher Gomez, that allowed Oscar Aleman to score. Gomez would get that one back with a solo home run of his own in the bottom of the second.

The Archers would then take the lead in the third on a three-run home run from Chris Taylor, his 27th on the season.

An RBI single from Isaac Nettles and an RBI double from Robbie Westbrook in the top of the fourth put the Hops back in front 5-4. But a Scottie Hagar sol shot in the bottom half tied it back up at 5-5.

That setup Harper Reyes to put the Archers up with the solo home run in the sixth, his 23rd on the season.

Alex Farmer (10-11) took the loss, throwing 5 1/3 innings and allowing six runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking one. Russell Fluty got the final eight outs coming in from the bullpen, allowing just one hit.

League ERA leader Lamont Lawrence only lasted 3 1/3 innings for St George. He allowed five run son nine hits. But the St George bullpen did not allow a run over the final 5 2/3 innings. The Hops stranded ten runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the fourth and seventh innings.

In Sunday’s finale, Ramon Garcia carried a no hitter into the eighth inning before allowing a one out single to Scottie Hager, leading the Hops to a 4-0 victory to avoid a three game sweep at the hands of the Archers.

The Hops would score three times in the second inning. David Benitez got the Hops going with an RBI single that score Art Mason. Forrest Owen then doubled home two more to make it 3-0.

Oscar Aleman would add an RBI single in the third to build the Hops lead to 4-0.

The story was Ramon Garcia though. Garcia (11-7) was magnificent in this one, mixing up his pitches and carrying the no hitter into the eighth. After getting Dias to ground out to open the eighth, Scottie Hager lined one over the head of David Benitez, who made a leaping attempt to keep the no hitter in tact. Garcia was lifted after that, allowing one hit, while striking out two and walking two.

Alvin Gellman (11-8) took the loss for the Archers. He only went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. The Archer bullpen would only allow one hit over the final five innings.

Flagstaff (82-68) will now return home to face second place Salt Lake (80-71) in a huge series, and then Albuquerque (51-100), which has the worst record in the IBL.

Around the League: Henderson avoided a late collapse and pulled out a 6-5 extra inning win at Mesa in the opener of a huge weekend series. Willy Geronimo hit a two-run home run with two-out in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5. It was his second of the game. But Albert Zambrano lined an RBI double in the top of the 11th to send the Silver Knights on to the victory.

Glendale got a walk off win over Surprise 5-4 to overtake Scottsdale and move into first place in the DL Central. Manuel Hernandez hit a solo home run off of Samuel Ojeda, his 25th on the year, as red-hot Glendale continues to make a push for the postseason.

Colorado Springs is doing the Hops some favors as they grabbed the first two games of a four game weekend series with Salt Lake by scores of 3-1 and 3-2. The Snow Sox still are holding onto faint Wild Card hopes, while damaging the Chukars chances.

Henderson completed a weekend sweep of Mesa with a 5-2 victory on Sunday afternoon. The win keeps the Silver Knights in first place and dwindles Mesa’s Wild Card lead down to 1 /2 games over Las Vegas.

Salt Lake managed to split their four game weekend series with Colorado Springs as they rallied for a 7-5 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Dezi Azerod hit two home runs as Santa Fe defeated Chandler 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in the battle of contenders. The Chiefs lead the DL East and the Silver Bullets are currently a 1/2 game back of El Paso in the ML Central.

An Orlando Arcia error opened the door for them to score four in that frame. They added four more against an ineffective Tyler Matzek in the 8th; and then walked it off with two more home runs in the 9th. So from a 9-0 lead to an 11-10 loss. Crazy game.
      "COMEBACK CODE!!!"

I'm totally kidding there. But this franchise has kept me hooked for years because of the unpredictability of games like this, when you play every game you get a lot of randomness that plays out. It's great.

Here is an update on the division races and wild card races with just two weeks left in the regular season, and here are the remaining series for the contenders:

In the DL East, the Barnstormers still have a shot at the division, but have just about locked down one of the Wild Card spots. Mesa is just (2-8) in their last ten as they hold a tenuous lead for the final Wild Card spot.
Chandler (93-57): vs. Rio Rancho, vs. Gilbert, @ Salt River, vs. Tucson
Gilbert (89-61): @ El Paso, @ Chandler, vs. Tucson, @ Salt River
Mesa (81-68): vs. Long Beach, vs. Salt River, @ Phoenix, @ Long Beach

In the DL Central, Scottsdale and Glendale are tied with just 12 games left in the season. The loser of the title race is still very alive in the Wild Card chase.
Scottsdale (81-69): @ Goodyear, vs. Yuma, vs. Surprise, @ Glendale
Glendale (81-69): @ Tucson, @ Surprise, vs. Goodyear, vs. Scottsdale

In the DL West, Henderson has opened up a four game lead on Las Vegas after winning five straight, sweeping both Las Vegas and Mesa. The Nuggets still are very alive for a Wild Card.
Henderson (84-66): vs. Yuma, vs. Phoenix, @ San Diego, @ Yuma
Las Vegas (80-70): vs. San Diego, vs. Amarillo, @ Yuma, @ San Diego

Over in the ML East, Austin has lost two straight but still holds and 3 1/2 game lead on San Antonio, the defending champions. The Javelinas Wild Card chances are slim, so the division title is likely their only route to the post season.
Austin (79-71): @ San Antonio, @ West Texas, vs. San Antonio, vs. Fort Worth
San Antonio (75-74): vs. Austin, @ Fort Worth, @ Austin, vs. Amarillo

In the ML Central, El Paso has a 1/2 game lead on Santa Fe for the division title with Rio Rancho holding a Wild Card position.
El Paso (86-64): vs. Gilbert, vs. Santa Fe, @ Rio Rancho, @ Roswell
Santa Fe (85-64): vs. Amarillo, @ El Paso, vs. Albuquerque, vs. West Texas
Rio Rancho (80-70): @ Chandler, vs. Roswell, @ El Paso, @ Albuquerque

In the ML West, Flagstaff is holding on to the division lead that once was 16 1/2 games at the All-Star Break. Salt Lake is still alive for the division title and is just 1/2 game back of Rio Rancho in the Wild Card race. St George and Colorado Springs are still barely alive for a Wild Card.
Flagstaff (82-68): vs Salt Lake, vs. Albuquerque, @ Colorado Springs, vs. Prescott
Salt Lake (80-71): @ Flagstaff, vs. St George, @ Long Beach, @ St George
St George (75-74): @ Prescott, @ Salt Lake, vs. Prescott, vs. Salt Lake
Colorado Springs (75-75): vs. Albuquerque, @ Prescott, vs. Flagstaff, vs. Surprise

Yuma, eliminated from playoff contention will close the season with series against Las Vegas and Henderson. The team will be moving to Fresno for the 2024 season.

Redbird Report - Cardinals head into July riding 9 game winning streak

The Cardinals (48-38) played their best month of baseball this year in June, finishing with a 20-7 record and head into July riding a 9 game winning streak, and with a 6.5 game lead over the Cubs in the Central.

The Cardinals finally played up to the expectations that the fanbase, organization, and those around baseball had for this team after last season during month of June. The bullpen stayed solid, starting pitching dominated games, and the bats produced runs far more often than not. About the only dark cloud were the injuries suffered by Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker, but both have returned although Walker is currently in Memphis as his bat continues to struggle this year.

The Cardinals are currently riding a 9 game winning streak as they are in New York for a series with the Mets. The Cardinals will then play the Cubs before heading into the All-Star break. The Cardinals and Cubs will play each other 9 times over the month of July and then not play each other again the rest of the year in an odd scheduling choice by baseball. The Brewers are the only other team currently considered in contention as they are 8 games behind the Cardinals. The Reds and Pirates have fallen off pace.

Its a busy month as the All-Star game is upcoming, the draft is days away, and the trade deadline expires at the end of the month. The Cardinals are searching the market for primarily relief pitchers, but are on the lookout for anyone that they think can propel this team back into the playoffs for another deep run and shot at a World Series.

Julio Urias wins National League Pitcher of the Month for June

Cardinals ace Julio Urias (11-3) won the National League Pitcher of the Month for June. He made 6 starts this month compling a record of 5-1 with 58 strikeouts. Urias is also the leading vote getter for pitchers to represent the National League in the All-Star Game, and is the leading candidate for the NL Cy Young award. He won the Cy Young back in 2023.

Didn’t know if I should ask this here but, I’m interested in knowing how you guys handle your draft picks as far as how quickly you call them up to the big leagues if they are really highly rated. I started my Detroit Tigers rebuild this weekend and with the third pick I got this STUD Catcher pictured below

Is this a guy you start immediately or start him off in AA first?

I can't view the picture but its entirely up to you. If you have no other player ahead of him that's any good, then go ahead and call him up. If he struggles at the MLB level then his potential may drop, which is a risk. But if his attributes look like they should play well in the big leagues then it might not be a problem.

Normally for me, my top prospects will stay at AA until I deem them ready to be called up.

Can you see the pic now? The website doesn’t seem to let me upload pictures. Had to use the app now. I definitely don’t want his potential to drop and I do have 2 good catchers so far. Eric Haase is having a good year. 78 over all and has been a hit for contact machine this year.

However, this kid looks like he’s going to be a lot of fun lol

First of all damn good find in the draft!

Second I would put him on 40 man immediately and see how he does in Spring Training. If he plays well enough to start then start him. If not put him in the minors either level.

The only thing I would not do is have him as a bench player. He needs to be an everyday player at some level

Just lost a heartbreaker in extras to the Marlins. 5-5 in the bottom of the 9th with a runner on third and one out and Jeff McNeil fails to get him in. If a game is tied in the 9th at home I always hold Edwin Diaz for the 10th since he can usually navigate through the inning without the free runner scoring due to his high K rate. First batter pops out and the runner can’t advance, things are looking good. Two strikes on the next batter but I throw a ball in the dirt and the runner moves to third with one out. Diaz K’s the next batter and for some stupid reason I throw his third best pitch with two strikes and it’s an RBI single to make it 6-5. Bottom of the inning they bring in a pitcher with a 73 mph curveball and he makes all three batters look like fools. Four games to go with a two game lead on the Phillies and three on the Braves

I’m afraid my timing is so messed up now I may not score another run the rest of the season. Last time this happened I had to not play for two days to get my swing back to normal

160 games in and I still haven't wrapped the division up, It comes down to Verlander vs Nola and Scherzer vs Wheeler if necessary. If my season relies on Scherzer, I'm screwed. Pretty tight race going on in the central too

                                2024 Washington Nationals

Washington Nationals (4-6) vs Texas Rangers (5-5)

Game One: Stephen Strasburg vs Jon Gray
Andrew Vaughn hit a two run home run in the top of the first, and Marcus Semien singled to drive in a run in the bottom half, but then Brandon Drury hit a solo home run in the third to put the Nationals up 3-1. Jon Gray would be pulled after four innings; he gave up the three runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Stephen Strasburg fared much better; going six innings and giving up one run on seven hits, two walks and nine strikeouts. Neither team would score off the opposing bullpens, and the Nationals were able to take game one even after the Rangers had to men reach with two outs in the ninth. Trevor Rosenthal struggled to find the strikezone and nearly loaded the bases, but was able to get Leody Taveras to strikeout even after being down 3-0.

Game Two: MacKenzie Gore vs Dane Dunning
Kike Hernandez drove in Keibert Ruiz in the top of the second, but Corey Seager hit a solo home run I. The bottom half to tie the game at one. Mitch Haniger hit a two run homer in the third, and the game would stay at 3-1 until the eighth when the Nationals hit two more two run shots, the first by Anthony Rizzo and the second by Gleyber Torres. MacKenzie Gore went six innings, giving up four hits, two walks and striking out three. Hunter Harvey went two scoreless and Zach Warren pitched a flawless ninth and the Nationals sweep the two game series.

The Nationals (6-6) will have a day off for travel before welcoming the Miami Marlins (5-5) to Washington for a four game series.
