I love QC, without it, there is no way I would have the patience/time to play an entire 162 every pitch in franchise like I do every year. Agree so much about making it customizable. a batting or pitching setting is a great idea, other thoughts, how about presets like: auto 1-1 count, an "every count" setting i.e.- 0-0 to 3-2, another tweak would be when changing pitchers, the QC should be reset for the new pitcher, too many times I'm taking out a guy to bring in a lefty etc., the QC generates before the change, and then stays the same when the new pitcher is brought in.

You know, I felt the same way. When I saw how screwed up pitch counts were I was like…..”ooooh no! What have they done.” As it really screwed up the stamina I reluctantly went back to pitching every pitch (ugh, I thought).

Then I realized I was missing things with the gameplay and such by using pitch counts. I’m now a recovering pitch count addict and won’t be going back. I’m guessing it’s added 15-20 minutes to my game, but the flow just seems so much better.

I'm happy it worked out for you, but for me personally from past experience before I discovered quick counts, I was never really able to generate realistic walk rates batting (too impatient) or pitching (too accurate) and it drove me nuts to have a CPU pitcher be dominating me and have like 45 pitches in the 7th inning. I still don't throw enough walks with QC now to be honest, but I try to not only throw them situationally if I'm pitching around someone, but also whenever a 3 ball count generates, often times try to throw the next pitch borderline strike at best to lead to more walks.

I know, I know, I could just get better at the game and stop swinging so much, but... for me, despite the fact on the surface it's an 'unrealistic' feature (no 0-0, 0-1, or 1-0 counts), it was the only way to really get games to have a 'realistic' flow and feel to me, even before considering the time savings if I don't have 45+ minutes to play one game.

Understood. One thing I have noticed tho is the CPU WILL walk you and throws a lot of recognizable pitches off the plate. But, I get you.

            Re: Quick Counts

With version 24 set to release, I’m bumping this thread ..

When MLB23 released we all noticed quick counts had changed in that the pitch counts no longer subtracted 1 pitch per hitter.

The end result was that pitch counts were inflated and it was tricky to get pitchers past even the 5th inning without slider modifications (whereas the balance used to work very well with the -1 from all other versions)

I think we all assumed this was a bug and would be patched, but picking up V23 this week in preparation for the new version, I noticed it’s still not fixed.

So was this a purposeful change for V23 instead of a bug ? What can we expect to see for v24?

I certainly hope it goes back to the -1 system, or at least gives the user the option.

I think it was a design choice, not a bug. Like the blue circle around fielders that you could use to opt out of if you still wanted to manual throw. I hope they revert both QC and the blue circle the way they had it previously.

I used to always do quick counts to speed the game up but now I can not. It kills the pitch count

                  Re: Quick Counts

I increased the SP stamina slider to 10 which helped. CPU would still have a quick hook sometimes but they would routinely go up to 110-120

But yes, I hope they tweak it

Hope this is fixed. Another thing that would help would be to add 0-0, 0-1, and 1-0 counts.

I continued to use quick counts last year as the stamina meter for starting pitchers didn't seem to be in full effect. I had some pitchers with like a 136 count but still have at least a sliver of the stamina meter, some not even in red.

Why would this be a design choice? Didn’t the old quick counts work just fine and (almost) everyone was satisfied with how it worked?

                        This!

Also, would love the ability to turn QC on/off during a game. This would make me rethink using it.

Oh, and I hate that when you put in a reliever in the middle of a game, the pitch could is at 0, even though the count is 2-1, etc.

EXACTLY! I get around this some by scheduling a reliever to come in after I start the warm up.

Yeah, I do that as well. It's when you need to make a change in the middle of an inning that gets me.

Yeah I got reasonable results by maxing out CPU starter stamina slider and dropping down CPU manager hook.

The problem with this is if you simmed with these sliders you’d see hugely inflated IP numbers with SPs getting way too many complete games. Unfortunately the game doesn’t have separate settings for simming or playing.
