There are still plenty of hits and homers from not getting "perfect-perfect". I had one in a game yesterday which was a line out to short. I still put up 11 runs with 4 HR's. By the way the Angels rake in this game!

One thing though is… you are rewarded more times than not with good or perfect timing and penalized more times than not with bad timing.Comment

Re: Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea
I'm not debating the mechanic or the hitting engine, i like it. Very much, actually. It's just the bad combo perfect-perfect message/out, players are getting crazy about that. Not here, of course. But for me, from a game design perspective, it is an oversight.Comment

Re: Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea
perfectly timed, perfectly squared up baseballs that are hit directly to a fielder are a huge part of baseball.
just like a perfectly struck golf ball can end up miles (not literally) from the hole.
in golf AND in baseball -- a perfectly struck ball doesnt = an automatic reward. heck, throw in hockey, too. there are endless other variables that are also added in to how perfect your timing was or your bat aim, and then where the struck object goes.
SDS absolutely should not remove a staple of the game just because a small minority dont understand the nuance of the game. instead, the game's audience will grow in knowledge and come up to speed.
that's what learning is all about.
one thing, too... baseball is not "all about failure". batting, in baseball, is the ONLY, SINGULAR thing where you "fail" more often than succeed. pitching, fielding, running, tagging, catching are all done at extreme high levels of success. great fielders can go an entire season barely making any errors. pitchers can pitch 100 pitches and give up less than 7 hits, regularly.
batting, yes, you fail more even as the world's greatest batter. but every single other thing done in baseball is done at extreme high levels of success.Last edited by CRIP4LIFE; 04-03-2023, 12:22 AM.NFL - RAVENS

Your reply is perfect-perfect, sir. But the larger fanbase is not here but on Reddit and they're still asking for a change. Me too, but not the mechanic itself. I'm just asking to remove the perfect-perfect message.
You get a thread like that pretty much everyday:

while reddit users on the r/mlbtheshow sub may outnumber the OS community, they are a mere tiny speck of all mlb players. also, the r/mlbtheshow sub has nearly 200k user (remember, a teeny tiny morsel of all the ppl who play the show).
the "perfect-perfect" UI prompt is baseball. it's a nuanced part of the sport (my coach from the time i was 7 would yell "good wood" or "great bat" everytime we made solid contact). ppl will learn. the ppl who dont understand are a very insignificant minority (mlb sells millions upon millions per year compared to >200k in r/mlbtheshow).
we're good.
ps.. that thread you linked to wasnt about complaining about what your post is here. it's thread making fun of ppl who complain about it. just fyi.Last edited by CRIP4LIFE; 04-04-2023, 05:11 PM.NFL - RAVENS

Re: Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea
They are very vocal and it's more than common to have devs making changes cause redditors go crazy. Chances are SDS will bump up hit percentage on perfect-perfect swings. My fix was simpler: just remove the perfect-perfect message because that's the problem.Comment

Re: Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea
Of course and it's fine. That's not the point. Because you know baseball, i know baseball, everyone here have some knowledge about baseball. But the moment you tell me "perfect !" it's the moment i expect to be rewarded some how. Not with a flyout, anyway. It is a questionable game design choice. There are ton of players playing mostly DD that are not so confident with the real baseball or simply don't approach the game like a sim and that's the reason they're asking SDS to change hitting. Not because they want more hits, but for the message itself: if it's "perfect" you must reward me with something. From a game design point of view, it's problematic to reward an action show as "perfect" with a failure. That's the reason why on Reddit you see 4-5 threads per day of players getting mad about perfect-perfect. For me, SDS should remove that message without touching anything else, but chances is they will patch hitting because DD is the most popular ( and lucrative) mode.
That’s all you can ask for as a hitter.
Perfect Perfects are rewarding in that it told me I did everything right. My PCI and Timing were on point and that’s all I am trying to do as a hitter.Comment

Re: Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea
Again, it makes perfect sense baseball wise. But to be perfect and get a failure is not good game design. It can be The Show, Quake or any other game in the market. Every angry rant i red is really about the message, not the output. Players get frustrated because they're not rewarded for a perfect action.Comment

Re: Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea
Like i said earlier I think its just named wrong for the casual baseball crowd. Should have called it something else In other sports if you do something "perfect" its going to likely be a success.
If you punt the ball perfect in football its going to do exactly what you intended it to do. Baseball you can strike a ball "perfectly" and due to so many circumstances it'll still be an out. So, I think the casual baseball guy/gamer - just doesn't get it.JUUUUUUUST A BIT OUTSIDEComment

Re: Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea
it's not though.
there's wind. ball spin. humidity. altitude. and, footballs (american) are oval. these all effect everything from the moment the ball leaves your foot.
even on a 100% perfectly struck punt you can not account for any of those 5 factors. it's totally out of your control. and all 5 can equally have an effect on a perfectly kicked punt.
the issue is a teeny, tiny fraction out of millions are vocal on reddit or other social media. that's it, in a nutshell. perfect-perfect UI pop-up should stay. and it has for 2-3 cycles now? i doubt SDS is concerned about a few thousand posts in a reddit sub (it's prolly tens/hundreds of posts, too.. not thousands).Last edited by CRIP4LIFE; 04-05-2023, 04:48 PM.NFL - RAVENS
