Exactly this. I am back to The Show after a few years off and not making the mistakes of past years. By the time you get done waiting for this update, that roster, this slider set to really get into the game, it's almost football season and time to move on to other things. Would rather just play the game out of the box. It's never going to be perfect even after the updates anyway. There's always the next thing you can wait for.

I’ve done out of the box the last few years and it’s much better. Like I said I’ll deal with the CAPs. The Senga one I have is pretty good. Fujinami looks a little weird. I tried to do some edits on it myself and it ended up looking like a gremlin. So cancelled my edits and I’ll just use it as is.

Its stinks they messed with Create A Player cause the Fujinami I had last year looked so much better

Spring Training games do not count towards service time

Ofcourse not due to them not wanting it to count as time towards minor league players but still as far as being part of the MLBPA you would think they could put players in the game. Specially if they have a major league contract deal in place

All good one day maybe another MLB game company will come around and push SDS to be better

The "Live Roster" that you can use in the exhibition mode only really sets the roster for that game. It still only uses players and ratings from the latest roster (You'll notice some players have the wrong jersey number because they haven't been updated in a roster update yet). The typical roster updates drop on Fridays. Usually you don't get a lot players added until the 2nd Roster update of the season. This Friday's would be too soon for a lot of rookies to be added.

I think in addition to satisfying whatever the mlbpa rules are of the player having to play a game, they also need to sign and submit some sort of paperwork to be in the game. I think this holds things up as well.

Pandemic season, when Ramone was more active on socials, he was mentioning how they were waiting on Gavin Lux to get his paperwork in so that he could be in the game. Funny though, because he eventually said Lux did submit his paperwork and that everything was good to go but he still didn't get put in until the next season lol

players at the mlb level fall under a differing set of rules, more stringent, than minor leaguers. that may change if MiLB'ers are allowed to join the mlbpa, which at one point recently there was talk of that happening

The rules are super convoluted. That "need to play a game" thing seems to only apply to

1. foreign players
2. players who had service time and didn't play in the mlb the year prior due to injury or player overseas... although some injured players like Michael Conforto were in day one.

There also seems to be some sort of process where a player needs to sign paperwork to be in the game.

But at the end of the day, no one here really knows the concrete rules to this and why or why not certain ppl do and don't get put in. But I am pretty sure it's not the show just choosing not put people in.

Yes. MLB said they are going to give minor leaguers their NIL rights and try and negotiate licensing jointly with the MLBPA in the future. They just announced this with the official uninionization of minor league baseball. So we can kiss “full minors” good bye as I would imagine these players will have to be paid a piece of the pie now. Or at least the ones we get from SDS at least. I think that’s why they went so hard with the N leagues this year, as they won’t be able to offer those “future stars” cards in DD anymore

They just announced this with the official uninionization of minor league baseball. So we can kiss “full minors” good bye as I would imagine these players will have to be paid a piece of the pie now.

thats what I thought would happen until Scott Spindler started working for the Studio. I'm asssuming they hired him to be their minor league guru, so maybe Sony will pay what they need to as to keep real full minors

I would not be so certain of that. For one I am sure it is not that much more money to pay a fee for all minor league players. In fact I believe they were already paying for them. I mean I have no proof but if you remember when college football was using player likeness not even names they got hit with a lawsuit and had to stop. MLB the show was using minor league players likeness and their names all this time. If they were not paying they would have been open to a lawsuit I would think

Exactly this. I think in future years SDS will include select players who are close to the majors I.e. wander franco, Jordan Walker, etc. etc. but I think the days of last years first round pick being included with a face scan are over. I mean come on, there are even guys in this years game that logged over 300 at bats last year who have terrible CAP renders. The roster feels absolutely and cheaply thrown together.

I do agree that Scott spindler (aka ridin) could be a positive sign they may be continuing to focus on minor leagues however. And MLB has already said they would like to negotiate combined rights with the MLBPA and MILB, so until we are finally at that bridge I guess we won’t know how we are going to cross it.

I will say this though. I know this will be an unpopular opinion. If it is a decision of money and it comes down to including the N leagues or the minor leagues in the future, I honestly feel like resources should go to the minor leagues. I have no interest in reliving history, and feel like an MLB game should first and foremost represent the current product as it stands today. Just my two cents. Other than the hardcore “baseball fans” I can’t imagine a casual audience would even know who bucks O’Neil, or satchel page are. But I guarantee you a casual fan is more than likely to know who their next “big thing” is.

Licensing can be a tricky issue. As we saw licensing and image likeness basically kill a top selling franchise in the NCAA football games.

I am shocked to see they get away with this. If I was a minor league player not getting compensation who was in the game I would file a lawsuit. Worked for college football players. very surprised to read that
