Do you document/track anything about your franchise?

Couldn’t think of a good title for this thread.
I’m going back to 22 in order to do a fantasy draft franchise using sluggbugg’s complete fictional roster (love this roster)

So, I’ve never done the fictional thing. I wish the tens franchise achievement stats could reset. I think what I am going to do is write these stats for each team in a notebook or something. Then, going forward, I can do the math, and basically reset them myself in a way.

Is there anything else that I should consider tracking? I am also going to document my own teams career record against the other teams, for both home and away.

I think doing these things will really help distinguish rivalries, and add excitement to the franchise

I made a huge franchise spreadsheet that I have posted on the forums.

I havent played multiple seasons since my Y2Y carry-over from 14-20 but the only thing I tracked was my Y2Y won loss record

Since I'm doing a 30-team fictional league rebrand, on the premise of it being a new league, I think I may take down some of the league leaders in pertinent categories at the end of each season (hits, batting average, homers, ERA, etc) so I can keep tabs on all-time league single season records.

Re: Do you document/track anything about your franchise?

I have always kept a word document where I write little monthly summaries of my franchise and how my team is doing.

It always was so "wordy", so this year I have been making short 5-15 minute recap videos on Youtube for me to look back on through my chise. It reminds me of the sports forum days when people would post updates to their franchises with awesome updates. I love it!

Re: Do you document/track anything about your franchise?

I keep track of the following as I sim into the future via an Excel sheet on my laptop.

Year goes across the top in rows and the below spots are in a column down so each year is 1 column for easy comparison.

All for my team only unless noted (world series for example)

              Spring training record
              Regular season record
              AAA record
              AA record
              Playoff record
              World Series result
              MLB power rank (overall/power, etc.)
AAA and AA overall power rank
              Top 50 prospect total
              My teams top prospect
              My draft pick number
My first draft pick (with overall and potential)
Number of All Stars and names
Number of award winners and names
              Number of league leaders names
              Manager name
              Payroll total
              Highest batting WAR
              Highest pitching WAR
              Team average
              Team ERA
Notes (this last one will be a few basic notes about the best storyline of the season for the team.)

I don't keep track of individual stats, overalls, or anything. I used to track overall and potential for all my draft picks to assess progression but I found it tedious so I moved on from that.

I think I'll also track playoff brackets/division wins, etc, as I could be wrong, but I don't believe that information (team history/historical records, etc) is kept anywhere in game.

Re: Do you document/track anything about your franchise?

Many of the things that I chart are what I've posted as screenshots on my dynasty. In addition to the year-by-year and award results, I also track my payroll (similar to what Roster Resource does), every player in my organization on a 20-80 scale (updated each opening day), and Jersey Number Chart - I like each player to have a different number, so that I don't have to worry duplicates. Of course, I track transactions and I also like to have my pitcher's repertoire (with my own grades) on hand.

Sometimes this stuff can be tedious, but it adds a lot to the GM experience for me. I'll never have to worry about surprises about future payroll, I get a good picture of which positions/prospects are my future, and I never have to guess/hope that I'm throwing my pitcher's best pitches.

there used to be a time when I was a young hothead, and vindictive, I'd keep a little black book of who committed microtransgressions against my team, like such as bunting on me when its plainly against the unwritten rules, or when they plunked one of my batters too high with a fastball.
then at the most opportune time for me and wont hurt me from winning, I wreck 'em back with some sweet chin music & high heat of my own. I guess I mellowed in my old age. nice guys might not always finish last but I've noticed they dont finish first often enough either lol

Matty, thank you so much for sending me the link to your dynasty. I didn’t even read it word for word yet (@work) but I already saw some really great ideas for what I am trying to do. Getting ready to start a major franchise , with fictional rosters, and want to start it off right. Look forward to reading carefully later tonight.
Just not a spreadsheet guy, don’t know them well. Planning on using a notepad on my iPhone/iPad

I still have printed out weekly summaries from the old dynasty manager days! I use the football, baseball, and basketball ones.

Regardless of the way you go, and how much/little you want to track-It's easily editable (Is that a word?!?!) if you have even the lowest/basic knowledge of excel (Which I barely do!).
